We mentioned a few days ago that ONM is going to be publishing an exclusive feature on Sonic Unleashed in their newest issue (schedule for release on Friday, April 11th). However, they were nice enough to share some information about the game today!
By day Sonic will be the blue hedgehog we all know and love but, when the sun sets, he turns into a werehog with claws and fangs.
This does make a difference to the gameplay as the werehog is slower but stronger, meaning he can swing around levels, move obstacles and hurl enemies around.
We’ve been speculating this for a while, especially after seeing the new Werehog teaser trailer SEGA threw at us on Monday. The new gameplay mechanics still sound a bit sketchy, but ONM seems convinced that SEGA finally got Sonic right with their newest endeavor. We’re excited to hear more about this Werehog form of Sonic that introduces a new element of gameplay in the Sonic Universe!

@T-Viruz: It’s a big concern to most of us, but I think the general consensus is to wait it out, and hope they do things right this time around.
Personally, it is a nice touch, but it will need some damn good back-story to reach the point of acceptance, and I hope it isn’t permanent
sonic new transformation is cool but it has almost nothing to do with him. this blue blur is all about speed not hand-to-hand combat. i dont know about you but i think sega has gone a bit to far with this werehog thing. another thing related is an up coming sonic game called SONIC AND THE BLACK KNIGHT, again sega may be going a bit to far. im not going to say much but you can go see for yourself…

Sonic is changing.
Fortunately, Sonic Unleashed is going to bring back classic Sonic aspects as well as a new and exciting adventure for our favorite blue hedgehog.

everybodies right some people think its really cool for sonic to change and some people get tired of sonic only running through levels really fast you know and you wouldn’t see that much dark levels in sonic games

the werehog thing is a bit cool. ya get more freedom but the dark gaia monsters can be a bit annoying
