SEGA did an awful interesting job with keeping the can on the lid for Sonic Unleashed. It’s probably because of their little mishap that information seems to be so dry as of late.
Whatever the reasons may be, we’re all begging for more details about the game… more footage, and more screenshots.
Well, there may be some big announcements coming very soon, and from a place most gamers have become quite familiar with. We’re talking about the E3 Media and Business Summit of course, the annual trade show for computer and video games, set for July 15-17, 2008.
Now, this is all speculation, and it could be we don’t hear another peep out of SEGA until the game hits store shelves this holiday season (wouldn’t that be disappointing), but based on the timing of their official press release, and their recent announcements via ONM and Play Magazine, it seems logical that their next big announcement will come from the Summit itself (hopefully with more gameplay footage and other goodies)! It’s true that several large names are withdrawing from E3 this time around, but so far SEGA still seems to be attending. There is also some speculation that we might hear from them even earlier on SEGA’s Gamer’s day in May.
To help SEGA out, here is a short list of things we want to know about the game:
- How many new characters are being introduced?
- Are any online features being developed?
- Can you please get rid of some characters?
- Will their be Multiplayer?
- Can we see some in game footage of the Werehog?
- Can you Elaborate more on the premise of the game?

I agree. Though, I think I know why they didn’t show much details.
Keep up the good work, campsonic ;).
I want to see the adventure stages and werehog in action.
Hopefully we’ll get more info at gamer’s day.
Spelling note:
It should be when will we HEAR, not here.
Wow, thanks for catching that Mynameisonic. That’s what I get for writing without my daily dose of caffeine I suppose.
Perhaps we’ll get new info from Sega’s Gamers Day, which I hear is this coming Saturday.
Keep up the great work!
Yes, more information would be pretty sweet, considering that we have to wait until November, perhaps, for it. I’m not counting out a delay either.
Also, I believe that if any new characters are going to be introduced, considering the focus on Sonic, they’ll probably play a role in an NPC capacity in the town stages and cutscenes but not be playable in the story mode, like Eggman, Knuckles and other characters besides Sonic in Sonic and the Secret Ring and Marine in Sonic Rush Adventure. It flows a lot better, since the people who want them to be there can see them and the people who don’t wanna be forced to play them don’t have to. And if they are playable, it’ll probably just be for multiplayer. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. The last 3D installment introduced no new Sonic characters, and had no new ones playable, excluding the MeteorTech robots. Well, at least they weren’t the robots from the last Riders installment. So, I guess that’s what’ll happen.
Also, it’s highly unrealistic that Sonic Team will get rid of ANY characters. While you have to consider that the large cast of characters in the franchise is quite…large, and might do with some trimming down, there are plenty of fans for each character, plenty who would NOT want to see their favorite character cut from Sonic Team.
’sides, Sonic Team doesn’t ditch characters, they simply don’t use them for a few years and let them fade into obscurity, and the characters either stay that way or get taken out after a while, like Amy Rose and the Chaotix were. In my opinion, the multiple characters really don’t affect much unless a ton of them are made playable or if they aren’t being represented as well as they should have in the storyline. Other than that, it’s the gameplay that’s of major importance, and that’s been broken for quite sometime.
LONG COMMENT IS LONG. XD
keep it up camp sonic weres the sign up for camp any way lol
@ iNAUDiBLE - Actually, Hashimoto has already stated that they’ve gotten rid of Silver this time around, will keep characters to a minimum, and will be reinventing the Sonic franchise.
To me at least, that signals that SEGA is taking Sonic in a whole new (or… not new depending at how you look at it) direction. I’m not going to make any predictions as who will or will not make an appearance in Sonic Unleashed without any official word, but I’m not going to be surprised if I only see Sonic, Amy, Tails, and Knuckles in the new installment.
@iec - Thanks! You can sign up on the right hand side of the site (sort of near the top)
It’s not exactly camp, but it’ll keep you up to speed with what’s happening at Camp Sonic!
Yeah I hope we can get new info at Gamers day and E3 probably another trailer? a more complete trailer, I want to see the wolf gameplay in action too!
When is ‘SEGA’s Gamers Day’, do you know? I need to mark it on my calendar.
@sonicfan: Gamers day is in March 14th! mark it up in your calendar ^^
Sorry, dude, I believed that by “getting rid of”, you meant “permanently removing from the franchise”…guess I didn’t understand your context regarding it. Hashimoto said that Silver “would not be making an appearance”, and I can live with that. I don’t like or hate him either way. (I’d love for them to actually get him in a game without plotholes and future timeline confusion though.) I can only assume that by wanting to know if “they were going to get rid of some characters”, that you want to know if they’re going to keep the number of characters to a minimum (which they have stated)…or kill a character off. (Yeah, that worked well in Sonic ‘06. Let’s not go there again, mmkay?)
Keeping the characters to a minimum is a very good thing, but actually taking time to develop the characters they already have instead of throwing new characters left and right is a good thing. Hashimoto said something about developing preexisting characters in the new game, and that has me excited, even it if will just be Knuckles, Tails, and Amy. Can’t wait to see if any other characters will get the same treatment in any games after this.
“@sonicfan: Gamers day is in March 14th! mark it up in your calendar ^^”
Er…March 14th has already passed… May 14th, you mean?
i agree with all who advise against a large cast of characters. I think its best to stick with the traditional characters of sonic. sorry, but shadow isnt apart of that. Sonic tails & knuckles r all timeless to atleast some extent, even tho that 90’s feel is loved by most if not all. Shadow and all characters after just wont carry a significant timeless feel like sonic does.
No one is going to really care 8 yrs down the road if shadow & pals were booted today. Shadow fans might hate it at first, but it would be easy to get over & forget. However other character that actually have thought and creativity behind them, should get more spot light. Like Espio without chaotics, Blaze, metal sonic, and gamma. They r actual good character concepts. Which is rare in sonic franchise aside from sonic tails & knuckles. End of rant.
