Sonic Unleashed Music Inspiration?

Sonic Unleashed Music Inspired by original Sonic the Hedgehog Music?

We may have found the inspiration for the music heard in the first Sonic Unleashed Trailer, and it comes almost not surprisingly from the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the GameGear. Sounds like SEGA might be adjusting a bit more than gameplay to return to that old retro feel of things.

Here is a video that compares the song from the new Sonic Unleashed Trailer to the ending theme in Sonic the Hedgehog 1.

Thanks to NintendoBrad who brought this to my attention recently.  Also, if you’re interested, you can grab the new Sonic Unleashed Trailer MP3.

Well, this brought a tear to my eye. I’ve been really optimistic about this new game… more optimistic than I’ve ever been about a 3D Sonic Game since Sonic Adventure 2.

I’ve enjoyed games in between, don’t get me wrong… but this one looks like it’s actually going to Reboot back to roots. The gameplay videos, so far, just feel like Sonic. That music felt like Sonic when I first heard it, but I couldn’t quite place why… now I know. For a fan who has been playing since the Sonic 1 days, this gives me goosebumps.

I think SEGA can’t please everyone, the fanbase is much too divided… but this is a step in the right direction towards making a game that will be fun for the masses as well as have the retro appeal for older fans. It feels an update, as well as a look back. I hope it proves to be a truly successful melding of the 3D gameplay we have today, and the classic gameplay that defines what Sonic is… The music is a major step in the right direction…

I actually liked it when crush 40 did the music. SA2 and Secret rings were great examples. who’s to say that sort of music (crush 40’s) won’t at least be a title of character theme?

I like this song, but I’d love it even more if they could sneak in Green Forest and Metal Harbor from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. :) Those are among my favourite songs, and I’d say at least Green Forest can be fitted in. ;)

Nobody’s gonna wanna stop to smell the flowers.

Maybe they’ll make a DX version and up it to 60fps.

People complained that there’d be no platforming. Just constant running. Well….here ya’ go. Now ya’ can go as slow as you want.

We are in for a surprise, that is sure.
I am worried about the negative aspects of this game for a bit.

    A small list:

bad pixelated plants/other things at times:well, this is aceptable, knowing that the gameplay is so high speeded, you have to sacrifice small things that are not important to maintain the speed.

Framerate: Was the framerate always 30? If they cannot reach 60,why not aim for 40-50 then?

Wherehog: will it be solid,of just a stupid failed gimmick?
Does it slow down the gameplay flow to much?

We’re still considering forums as a way to communicate here, but I honestly think that they may distract from some of the discussions we have here on the blog. It’s definitely being considered though as an alternate form of communication here, especially after we had so many people commit to joining.

@ dragonite: I agree, maybe an invasionfree board or something to have more discussions.

@ iNAUDiBLE – I’m not surprised at it being old news (the Sonic Community tends to pick these things up pretty quickly), but I personally missed it between all of the other happenings over the past month. It was NintendoBrad who brought it to my attention recently, and figured I’d share it with people who may have missed it like myself :P

    Thank you NintendoBrad!
