We may have found the inspiration for the music heard in the first Sonic Unleashed Trailer, and it comes almost not surprisingly from the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the GameGear. Sounds like SEGA might be adjusting a bit more than gameplay to return to that old retro feel of things.
Here is a video that compares the song from the new Sonic Unleashed Trailer to the ending theme in Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
Thanks to NintendoBrad who brought this to my attention recently. Also, if you’re interested, you can grab the new Sonic Unleashed Trailer MP3.

I like it, it’s even more proof that they are returning sonic to its roots. Not to mention the tune itself is pretty catchy.
Way to go SEGA!
I’d have to agree with you Perfect Chaos. Makes me feel a lot better about the Sonic “Reboot” this time around.
Agreed
I think I like the new one best. I like the old but, I actually like the newer version better.
I think this year will be the blu hedgehogs year, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Chronicles:The Dark Brotherhood can it be better?
Mybe, I heard somethin about Sonic at the olympic games, yay no Mario. Bur just somethin I heard. Yeah, yeah back to Sonic Unleashed.
This game looks so cool I can’t wait!
Ha, a few people noticed this same comparsion at the Sonic Unleashed boards at GameFAQS last month.
Anyway, that’s pretty cool, they ALMOST sound very similar to each other.
incredible…..
i wish listen a similar version to chemical plant.
is one of my fav retro musics.
what about a Hidden palace theme? =0 whee that could be cool, keep on rockin jea xD
The main notes of the trailer theme are alot like the ending theme..You are right about this.
I just hope that there is enough orginal music in this game, however.
Lolcakes, I see the similarity. Pretty nice that they’re doing that. =D
I’ve known about this for awhile.
I wonder what other forgotten gamegear music they’ll be remixing?
Better yet, let’s get Michael Jackson to make some more Sonic 3 quality music. (rumor I know, but I believe it.) You know you want more Ice Cap Zone. XD
I totally agree with Perfect Chaos’ post (the 1st one).
It’s funny, but I wrote “Way to go, SEGA!”, too, in my post, in the message about the Sonic Unleashed Trailer MP3. I wrote it just today, right after I read this the first time. It seems that it only got to my Inbox just now, which made me come back here and write the post I’m just writing. And I said “Way to go, SEGA!” there because the music really resembled the GG one, and for the same other reasons Perfect Chaos pointed out. LOL What a coincidence.
Really, really cool. SEGA has surprised me. I wasn’t really expecting a remix of such an old music that appeared in a Game Gear game. The Mega Drive is usually more famous and a better target to choose tunes to make remixes of. But a remix from a music in a GG game, a music that, even though it’s good, probably anyone would think of making a remix of it? Now, that’s Sonic going back to his roots!
Don’t fail us now, SEGA.
Sounds pretty similar. Although I hope if it is that they add some parts because it may get repetitive.
Aw I was hoping for the original Sonic the Hedgehog to be remixed.
New ones betta tho.

It’s alright.
Dude, If any song shouled be remixed, it should be green hill zone!
But this is really cool! I was pretty amazed by this. First, Sonic whistles angle island zone, now this? It seems as though the music will be to die for in this one!
Then again, when is a Sonic game soundtrack NOT fun to listen to? Even Sonic Heroes’ Hang Castle got me grooving!
looks better than the old one
Oh snap! I just had a thought!
What kind of theme song will they make for this game?!
Old news, admin, this was on Sonic Stadium’s Sonic News months ago. But you probably already knew that. It’s a slow news week, considering that no new…details are being brought to light.
And ’sides, this is one of those BETTER coincedences. It sounds like the Game Gear game, but it also sounds original on it’s own. If we got some good remixes like this, some awesome new tracks, and a new Crush 40 track, this could possibly have the best Sonic soundtrack yet.
(…possibly let Bentley Jones/Lee Brotherton remix a track, or do a new one, that’d be pretty boss too.)
How is the game ending going to be anyway?
o… E3 .. COME CLOSER
Whoa, you posted my video. Pretty cool! Thanks admin.
Hopefully there’ll be some more classic tunes. *prays for Hydrocity Zone Act 1.*
@ iNAUDiBLE - I’m not surprised at it being old news (the Sonic Community tends to pick these things up pretty quickly), but I personally missed it between all of the other happenings over the past month. It was NintendoBrad who brought it to my attention recently, and figured I’d share it with people who may have missed it like myself
Thank you NintendoBrad!
Is there any news about a forum here actually?
The comments are getting more and more crowded now..
@ dragonite: I agree, maybe an invasionfree board or something to have more discussions.
We’re still considering forums as a way to communicate here, but I honestly think that they may distract from some of the discussions we have here on the blog. It’s definitely being considered though as an alternate form of communication here, especially after we had so many people commit to joining.
I’m not a very musically minded person and this is just my opinion but…is there any similiarties?
^Listen to the guitar part of the first song and the main part of the second song.
when is e3?
july 15th-17th
it is stated a few news post ago.
thanks
We are in for a surprise, that is sure.
I am worried about the negative aspects of this game for a bit.
A small list:
bad pixelated plants/other things at times:well, this is aceptable, knowing that the gameplay is so high speeded, you have to sacrifice small things that are not important to maintain the speed.
Framerate: Was the framerate always 30? If they cannot reach 60,why not aim for 40-50 then?
Wherehog: will it be solid,of just a stupid failed gimmick?
Does it slow down the gameplay flow to much?
Nobody’s gonna wanna stop to smell the flowers.
Maybe they’ll make a DX version and up it to 60fps.
People complained that there’d be no platforming. Just constant running. Well….here ya’ go. Now ya’ can go as slow as you want.
I liked the Bridge Zone music.
I like this song, but I’d love it even more if they could sneak in Green Forest and Metal Harbor from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
Those are among my favourite songs, and I’d say at least Green Forest can be fitted in.
I actually liked it when crush 40 did the music. SA2 and Secret rings were great examples. who’s to say that sort of music (crush 40’s) won’t at least be a title of character theme?
Well, this brought a tear to my eye. I’ve been really optimistic about this new game… more optimistic than I’ve ever been about a 3D Sonic Game since Sonic Adventure 2.
I’ve enjoyed games in between, don’t get me wrong… but this one looks like it’s actually going to Reboot back to roots. The gameplay videos, so far, just feel like Sonic. That music felt like Sonic when I first heard it, but I couldn’t quite place why… now I know. For a fan who has been playing since the Sonic 1 days, this gives me goosebumps.
I think SEGA can’t please everyone, the fanbase is much too divided… but this is a step in the right direction towards making a game that will be fun for the masses as well as have the retro appeal for older fans. It feels an update, as well as a look back. I hope it proves to be a truly successful melding of the 3D gameplay we have today, and the classic gameplay that defines what Sonic is… The music is a major step in the right direction…
SpeeD, I agree with you. I am pleased to announce that you win Eggman’s moustache!
‘ey speaking of music, can anyone confirm and/or deny this? I hope crush 40 contributes to the music, those guys made some cool stuff

They should remix the boss theme of Sonic the hedgehog 3
