  1. now thats sonic! it amazes me how fast he can be now although i hope the wii’s version is equal and hope DIMPS does a good job with sonic wii unleashed. Alot of interesting footage in the video and these shots but personally i want to see the overworld and the wii version as much as the ps3/360,

keep up the news camp sonic! i visit the site everyday XD

  2. yeah, me two:P Everyday you’ll learn something new!!

  3. dragonite June 17, 2008

It is now really busy around here, the site loads slower.
Did anyone discuss the music in the video yet?
    I liked it very much.

The question remains how the night will play…
Will it make the game deeper?
Or will it ruin the flow a bit?

  4. dragonite June 17, 2008

Admin,I noticed that the comment software can be buggy sometimes.
It does’t always display the right number of comments, and perhaps some other things are wrong to.

  5. blah...okay June 17, 2008

Dragonite,… a few people dislike the speed of the Sonic Rush series. This is could be what the werewolf sections are for.

  6. dragonite June 17, 2008

I actually disliked the rush system to.
But it where mainly the tricks, they get annoying.

This game seems to take all the good from rush, and the ring meter will really make them more important.
For speedsruns, you will need to find enough rings to get your gauge going, however it seems from the trailers that the boost can be used for quite some time.
What will sonic’s normal speed be?

  7. dragonite June 17, 2008

Nice usage of logo in the side bar.
    Am I overposting:P
There is simply so much to react about.

  8. Again, more lovely screenshots of the PS3/360 version, but I want to see screenshots of the Wii version! Lots of speed – nice one on SEGA’s part!

  9. @Nik: Posted at 8:32 am?! It’s half one in the UK right now! LOL!

  10. chaoscontrol June 17, 2008

i logged on minutes after it was put up
it just keeps getting better and better!

  11. I don’t know… every time a new Sonic game comes out the whole community (me included) starts flipping out like “this is it! This is the Sonic game that’s going to define the series and bring his popularity back up from the laughing stock he’s become to his rightful place rivaling Mario! This is going to be the best Sonic game ever!” and every time… it’s not.
I thought I’d learned my lesson last time with Sonic 06. I new then that there’d never be another good Sonic game. I’ve come to accept that. I rented Sonic and the Secret Rings, it was an improvement, but I just wasn’t interested.
But now, watching these trailers, well I feel like an idiot, but this is it! This is the Sonic game that’s going to define the series and bring his popularity back up from the laughing stock he’s become to his rightful place rivaling Mario! This is going to be the best Sonic game ever!

  12. Oh god I spelled “knew” wrong…

  13. dragonite June 17, 2008

Don’t worry to much about one letter.
Yeah,I am still septical myself about the final producht, but all looks well so far.
And if you know the fact that all bad sonic games where either semi-spinnoffs of rushed, this game is the first normal sonic game in years.

But the whole battle against mario…
    That thing had it’s time.
    Why?
    well,the orginal games,in sonic’s prime,where a incredible good sidescroller,and a incredible good and fast side scroller.

But look at the series now,and one has to come to the conclusion that sonic and mario games have grown in a diffirent direction.
    They aren’t fully comparable anymore.
    Look at unleashed and galaxy.

  14. True, I wasn’t really thinking when I said the Mario stuff, though really my point wasn’t comparing the games, but the popularity of the characters themselves. The amount of fans, the loyalty of the fans, the number of copies sold, the review scores, all that sort of thing. Haven’t done any research on that, but you don’t have to look much to know that Mario a lot more well liked these days than Sonic. I’d like very much to see that situation altered… Or reversed :D

  15. dragonite June 17, 2008

The best that can happen is a tie of sorts.
As long as Miyamato is alive, mario and nintendo will never die.
And I would hate to see mario suffer the same fate as sonic..

    Anything to discuss?
I think that I got the controls down a bit:
A:not seen in vid except the gimick, but it is most likely the jump button.
B: it appeared before a tunnel, and it made sonic do a slide kick again.
X: constantly appears before a breakable wall to sonic boost trough,so I assume X is the boost button.
    R1 and L1 :quick step,confirmed.
That still leaves one button left, and 2 shoulder bottons
    What would they do?

  16. Chaos Blast June 17, 2008

    @dragonite
Some magazines have said there will be upgrades for Sonic’s moves, so I guess they will be for them. A Light Dash is a possibilty.

  17. @dragonite: Our server may have had a hiccup this morning, but if it did, it didn’t last long. Things are moving lighting fast on my end.

The comment count is somewhat intentional. We cache our pages here to ensure the highest speeds are available to all of our viewers. Individual pages do update whenever a new comment is posted, but it might take a minute for those changes to be reflected on the front page.

@Nik: This blog runs off my local time (GMT -5).

@Chaos Blast: Yup, upgradeable moves have been confirmed. It’s a bit iffy about whether you’ll purchase them, or find them in levels though.

  18. I was The first to Upload the video on youtube! And no one else has yet. Keep up the good work CampSonic!

  19. blah...okay June 17, 2008

Dragonite… I hate to be the person with… not-so-great news… but I think they started making this game in 2007, and it is releasing in 2008. With Sonic 06, Sega said they only had “1 year” to make it.

Doesn’t this sound familiar? Sega wants Sonic Unleashed to be “good,” but they are STILL spending only 1 year on it.

  20. Aww daggon it! I am uploading it as we speak!

…oh well. It is still awesome!

  21. the best image of the new images is sonic running from the spikes!!

  22. @blah…okay: Actually, it’s been in development for over 3 years. It’s of course impossible to say the game is going to be a successful reboot, but so far, things are looking good I’d say.

  23. blah...okay June 17, 2008

Admin, what do you know of the hedgehog engine? My friend wants to know if he can use it for his car. Or is it only for Sonic games?

  24. @blah…okay: Well, from what I understand, Sega has neither confirmed or denied the Hedgehog Engines use in automobiles (or lawn mowers even). All we know is that it was developed internally for high-end platforms (whatever that means), and it makes things “beautiful”, and “larger than life”.

  25. dragonite June 17, 2008

The actual game might have short delevopment, but the real star of this game is the hedgehog engine.

I am worried about the sonic drift.
On sega gamers day, that guy who wrote a article on it said that one of the demonstrators screwed up doing the move.
And in the movie it seem to be tricky to control, sega needs to watch out that this vital move works.
I wonder what happens if you crash into a wall…

Another thing that has me intrested is the question of how aware sega is of this site :p
I am pretty sure a few of them have seen this site because because it is relativaly well known.
It would be awesome if one commented here.

  26. @dragonite: Well, AAUK was here no more than a week or two ago. I think Sega listens to the Sonic Community, and visits sites like Camp Sonic every now and then to see what people are saying.

  27. iNAUDiBLE June 17, 2008

admin- Aww, man, blowing my mind, blowing my miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind. Not just these screenshots, but these additional little layout alterations, such as your nice new black Spin Dash post background and the “reply to poster” option. Good on ya. If it gets to the point where we may need mods or maybe AAUK or another SEGA crew member decides to give us some hookups, will THEY get colored post backgrounds too?

…I thought that production on the ENGINE for the game took three years? Admittedly, they could’ve developed the game alongside the engine or having the engine already finished could’ve helped speed up the production process, but still, this looks GOOD, regardless of having a year or not. *shrugs* Yeah, the Sonic Drift move looks like one of those things to watch out for, but then again, the SEGA of America blog that had SEGADawg testing said that the controls were oversensitive and that programmers would spend time tweakin’ it. So, maybe it will be easier to control in Final. We won’t know for sure for a while…

  28. dragonite June 17, 2008

I noticed in the video that sonic was in quite a awkward angle, but once the drift stopped,he straightened right away.
I guess you should pay attention to sonic’s position, and quit as soon as the turn is over.

  29. chaoscontrol June 17, 2008

my mom watched and she coundn’t keep her eye on sonic! THIS IS FAST!

  30. @iNAUDiBLE: Not sure if we’ll end up needing mods for the Blog, but if we bring on additional writers, they’ll for sure have some way to set them apart. Glad you like the additional layout tweaks =) Did you see the recent comments posted up in the right menu (bottom of the sidebar).

Still got a few things to do here and there :)

  31. iNAUDiBLE June 17, 2008

@dragonite: Hm, that would make a bit more sense. I mean, you normally don’t see bipedal animals drifting without the assistance of automobiles, so awkward positions would make sense…maybe it’s all about timing, if you let go immediately, you could be careening into another direction, if you let go at the right time, you could get right into the corner with a speed increase, if you hold on too late, you’ve essentially stopped. …I sure hope that any tutorial we got is damn good at illustrating how to use this!

@chaoscontrol: Kudos to your mom for being willin’ to watch. XD Hm, I’d agree! I hope that it’s fast enough for you to stay in control… It’s interesting how they’re always raising the bar on speed. After playing the Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure titles, going back to Sonic Advance 3 is hard at times, it feels slower, and when playing it on the DS, I’m doing trick actions even though the Sonic Advance series doesn’t have them. I wonder if it will be hard to go back to, heck, Sonic Adventure series after this one comes out!

  32. o my gosh
    impresibe….

  33. Tobibrocki June 17, 2008

HOLY SHITTTT!!!! Now that´s what I call FAST! O.o´
I saw the Trailer and was like…. like…. Waaaaah goin crazy!!!
The Visuals are really amazing, I would say better than Galaxy in many parts!
Have you noticed the low framerate when Sonic jumps on that metal thing and then falls into that tunnel?
To bad that I couldn´t see the Trailer earlier today, my job somertimes really nerves me, also the time difference here in Germany is a problem!
I wonder how many different paths you can take, I mean, look at the city, it´s HUGE!!!
When I look at this big city I can´t believe that they work on this game for only one year!!! O.o

How will this big city level look like in the Wii version, I would say that 2D, at least in this stage, on the Wii, would make sense, because I don´t think the Wii could display so many buildings at once!

At least I can say: Now I can die peacefully! :)

  34. Oh man, this game is beautiful. I hope the Wii version will look good, too!

  35. Brittanie June 17, 2008

I couldn’t keep up with the trailer, and the screens are totally amazing, I can’t wait for some new info, more importantly, I can’t wait for some night-time footage/screens. That would calm me down until holidays.

  36. dragonite June 17, 2008

Someting I noticed right away in the comments is that some guy said someting among the lines of ”mario is *******”
So when it gets busier, indeed angy people with bias come by…
    You saw that coming early,admin.

A forum will certainly increase this, but it would be wonderful to create topics to neatly ordered dicuss specific thing such as sonic drift.
But then again,as you pointed out,it may put down the main page a bit.
I see this as the main reason to say ”no”.

Rude people are bad,but with some effort,we should be able to ward them off.
I sort off had a idea with a ”knucklehead” infraction for being rude and ignorant, for example.

This site’s charm is the casual tone of it,and that may be lost..
But I am also afraid that once information reaches critial levels, the comments get overun, and it is becomes hard to calmly dicuss someting, and that spread trough them, more violent dicussions will start.
But that is all doom-thinking,looking at the site right now.

  37. DoctorEggman June 17, 2008

If this game is as fun to play as it looks, it may be one of the best platformers ever made. And ever since Mario stayed from his objective roots, he has taken a different path than Sonic. But they are both still platformers which can be compared. I think they’ve both had their share of bad games, (most of which were spin-offs) but I just like to focous on the good games of the series instead of being all butt-hurt over the past. But thinking back to 2006 when I was getting excited for Sonic 06, I remember how it was a crushing disappointment to see that what COULD HAVE been an awesome game made into garbage that leaves a bad taste in gamers’ mouths. I’m hoping this isn’t a repeat of that year. A few things help mefeel comfortable about this game:
    -The gameplay is more simple
-the graphics engine has had a few years in the making
-SoJ, A, & E are working on this as well as Dimps hrelping to develope the Wii version’s daytime stages.

One thing that worries me despite all that is the possibility of Sega treating the Wii like a PS2 like they’ve done with
    Superstars Tennis.

  38. iNAUDiBLE June 17, 2008

@dragonite: Yeah, so many new people! Most of them seem cool though, so I think that so long as we attempt to scare off the dumber ones, we’ll be fine.

I don’t know if there is a way to make it so that people have to register in order to comment? That would put some people off, but it seems a bit…exclusive to me. Like dragonite said, this place has a more casual tone, where people can just jump in and registering may defeat that…

  39. I sincerely hope that Sega don’t fumble the ball on the Wii and PS2 version having put all their time into the Next-Gen consoles but, with all the teamwork and preparing they’ve been doing it should be a fun game anyway.

  40. Revertedtozero June 18, 2008

    @DoctorEggman:

Hope they Don’t, or wii and ps2 owners would be REALLY angry!

  41. TailstheHedgehog June 18, 2008

I really hope Sega and sonic team atleast meet expectations this time, I’ve never lost hope in them but I’m starting to get tired of second rate platform games. I normally love the games anyway though but unfortunately its the critics views that count

    Sonic rocks ma socks anyway

  42. Sση¡Ć ΓħЄ ĦeÐġeħōӘ June 18, 2008

One thing that I hope SEGA does, is make Super Sonic playable in the normal levels. He goes fast as it is, can you imagine how crazy fast he will be as Super Sonic? Make collecting the Emeralds worth it, not just for the final boss. I think little touches here and there is key to making this game a TRUE Sonic game that fans have been waiting for.

  43. dragonite June 18, 2008

Super Sonic has’t been in levels for so long, because he is so fast and strong that it is tricky to implement him right.

  44. Sση¡Ć ΓħЄ ĦeÐġeħōӘ June 18, 2008

true, but imagine that it adds touch to the level. I dont really like having patches that make the levels longer or harder, just make the character approach the level different. Saves development time, and it brings another fine touch that Sonic games have been missing alot of.

  45. I hope that SEGA Implements a Chao System.
    It’s so addicting and fun.

  46. Also, I wonder how you will be able to rotate Sonic around the level, even while the camera angle is at a 2D angle

  47. dragonite June 18, 2008

The game engine is able to render 3-D,so I think the overworld will be like the past ones.

  48. blah...okay June 18, 2008

Sega said they originally wanted to make this Sonic Adventure 3, right? It is possible, that the overworld was created WHILE they wanted it to be Sonic Adventure 3.

When they changed their mind, Sega decided not to throw it away and just give us.

  49. dragonite June 18, 2008

Most likely not that way, they planned the engine for a long time.
But how will it be controlled then?

  50. Sση¡Ć ΓħЄ ĦeÐġeħōӘ June 18, 2008

I still like the title Sonic Adventure 3. But i guess because of the Wolf Sonic part, the title Unleashed makes more sense. Maybe if the Dreamcast was still on the market it would of been Sonic Adventure 3.

    Anyone still have a Dreamcast?
