Happy Birthday Sonic! May your upcoming games bring you more praise and respect from those who have doubted you or lost hope over the years. As well as establish a stronger fan base and all the while keep pleasing the fans you have had since 1991.
You have come a long way from your 2-D platform games on the Genesis, Master and Sega’s handheld Gamegear. Even though you may have lost your way while transitioning to 3-D every now and then, you are still a force to be reckoned with. As we’ve all seen with the inclusion of you in SSBB. An appearance that was brought about due to the demand of fans who voted you the top most wanted character.
You have appeared in many media types, some good (Dic’s Satam series, the Archie and UK comics) some bad (The live stage show in Sega World Australia, Sonic 06).
You have had many types of re-imaginings from those who enjoy playing your games. Such as the four book series by a collection of writers under the nickname Martin Adams. 1993 brought out martins Sonic the Hedgehog in Robotnik’s Laboratory, Sonic the Hedgehog in the Fourth Dimension, Sonic the Hedgehog and the Silicon Warriors, and in 1994 Sonic the Hedgehog in Castle Robotnik. These series were the first to bring you together in Freedom Fighter fashion and create the world that led to the Sonic the Comic UK comic series, which was all based on the book Stay Sonic.
1993 also saw your debut on TV, and definently not the last, in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog from Dic.
While in 2006 your father and creator (no notJules Hedgehog) Yuji Naka left you in Sonic Teams hands while he set off to form a new company. Even though he left you are as successful as ever, with a comic series approaching the 200 milestone, with multiple spin offs and games coming out that could bring about a new chance for you to take the spotlight from Nintendo’s plumber.
You, as well as all your fans, have much too look froward too. May you keep running strong and proud.

For 17 years you have made SEGA the company they are. I must say that my first video game i ever played was Super Mario Bros. I thought that was the coolest game ever, and Mario was the best. That all changed when i got the Sega Genesis for my birthday. The game that came with the system was Sonic The hedgehog. I think i played that game the whole day, and the folowing day, week, year and years.
The attitude and speed that made the first game legendary is still evident in the games today. A fan will always stand by the person, or character they like, through the tough and good times. Sonic, you have never lost your touch, you have gained more rank and legendary status as being able to endure the tough times, and capitalize on the good times. All i can say about your upcoming Sonic Unleashed, is that i get the same feeling that i got 17 years ago when i first saw your first game.
Best wishes on the upcoming release of Unleashed and Chronicals, and the many more titles that await your presence. May your futrue be filled with cheer and may we all share in the joy you bring, even if it takes only a Sonic Second, it will be worth it.

On a serious note, Sonic survived though another year and has to dash though another, just like one of those trick rings. True, you kind of pissed off your fan base after Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 but, you’ve learned. You and Mario used to be bitter rivals, but you’ve learned to pals. Remembering the reason for this battle has forced something of a reawaking.
Sonic Unleashed is the straight forward goal to return to the past. Maybe ya finally learned something from Mario and Nintendo, they know how to run things. All you’ve learned in your handheld adventure are solid proof. I don’t know what might happen from here (seriously?) but I know your going back on track. That all I can really say.

Hey Sonic Happy birthday i have been a big fan you since 1991 ur now turning 17 and i have fond memories of the Sonic The Hedgehog series from ur first game to Sonic 2 when u introduced us to tails and through the ages as we’ve come to know you, you have inspired me to keep going and though ur going through a rough struggle to save ur franchise I’m cheering for ya keep on running and i know this is finally it u will save ur series u are a legend and a role model to many.

I remember the first time I played a sonic game.Who knew that a 4 year old that played sonic with his older brother all day would still be a fan of the blue blur 12 years later. I guess I’ll always be a fan of sonic whether or not if his games are up to the caliber of the genesis games. Happy Birthday again Sonic and hopefully your 17th b-day won’t be your last.

Hopefully Sonic Unleashed will get you back on the critic’s good side! I mean come on, you used to rival MARIO, I’d hate to compare your most recently released games to Super Mario Galaxy, as much as I loved Secret Rings, it was nothing compared to Galaxy. Unleashed looks much more worthy of a comparison with Nintendo’s game of the year.

You became a popular gaming icon and you are till this day. Your games were not everytime flawless but they all are fun to play. Also your `06 outing was a nice game, not awesome but nice.
And I think Unleashed will give us the massive speed kick we need!

I grew up with you, and I’m looking forward to your future endeavors.
17 Years… has it really been that long, my blue speedy friend?
I remember when I was young, around 4 years old..at a Christmas party. I remember walking to a back room of sorts, and seeing some kids huddled around a TV playing a Genesis.
What was on the screen that day? You of course, In your 1st game.
They saw me with my eager eyes, and handed me the controller. “This is to move, and you push this to jump.” That was my first experience with you, Sonic the Hedgehog.
I have played most of your games. I bought every one possible for my own Genesis, and played it night and day.
Oh the adventures we had together.. smashing baddies and destroying Robotnick’s evil plans…
But, as time went by, I grew up. I moved to the Nintendo systems starting with the N64, leaving you behind.
It would be years before I played with you in your own game again.
Once I got a GameCube, I realized that Sega no longer made consoles and became a Third-Party Developer. This ment that I could enjoy playing games starring you once again. I bought Sonic Mega Collection to replace the Genesis games that had grown old.
Oh the nostalgia I felt. Ever since, I picked up Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the GC, as I didn’t play them before. I bought Sonic Heroes as well.
Then the Wii and the DS came out. I played Sonic Rush, Mario & Sonic at The Olympic Games, Sonic & The Secret Rings, and Brawl.
And now I await the time I can play with you again, blue blur, in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Chronicles.
You and I have both grown up over the years, but the adventures we take still amaze and fill me with joy every time.
May you never lose your attitude, and thanks for making me feel like I’m 4 again.

heeeeey! 20’s not far off! I think sega should come up with a collection game for that. A collection including: sonic adventure, sonic adventure 2, sonic heroes, shadow the hedgehog, sonic the hedgehog (2006), and sonic unleashed. all the 3d console games in the main series. maybe a few changes could be made to decent up some of them, they could improve the graphics and translation, in sonic ‘06, and tone down the profanity that made shadow the hedgehog so controversial.
I just added all the announced characters to wikipedia’s sonic unleashed page. seemed it’s been too long that knuckles, tails and amy have been thought by most to not be in the game.

Wow 17 years. Now the Sonic series is technically older than Sonic himself heh. I think I got a little carried away today, I spent most of my day playing Sonic games basically from Sonic 1 all the way up. Oh well it was time well spent and I can’t wait to do it again June 23 next year!

ok this is a bit of new info, apparently Nintendo of Europe listed the games for 2008 wich surprised many fans with titles like Sonic UNLEASHED for the DS and Beijing 2008 for the wii, and SEGA came to the rescue confirming there WONT be a Sonic Unleashed for the DS or Beijing 2008 for wii, oh well, I just thought it could b newsd heres the list http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2008/noe_announces_summer_2008_release_schedule_8775.html so yeah…I personally think they WILL make a DS game but not unleashed, maybe the so called “Sonic Attitude”
