Nintendo Power Scans for Sonic Unleashed Wii

It’s really late.  I’m a bit under the weather.  I keep getting emails filled with scans from the latest Nintendo Power.  This won’t be a lengthy update, and I’ll leave you to do the reading for now (in case you’ve missed them elsewhere).  Otherwise, you can expect a more full take on everything tomorrow or Monday.

Sonic Unleashed for the Wii in Nintendo Power Scans

G’night folks.

    @Torbjörn Karlsson:
No, the only thing they said about it before is that you have more free movement than Secret Rings, but less than the Adventure games.

They said it’s on-rails in the gray overview bit before the interview. It’s supposed to be the first thing you see, why does everyone keep missing it?

  10. sonicfan1984 Says:

I’m confused. @_@ Some interviews says it’s onrails while others say it’s not. What’s the nunchucks for then?

  11. Raizor Says:
    Reply to this comment

No interviews have said it’s not on-rails, they’ve just said “more freedom than Secret Rings”.

And you can be on-rails without motion sensing. Ever play Star Fox? It just means there will be less of a chance for the controls to be sloppy.

On rails doesn’t mean Secret Rings gameplay…it just means you have a straightforward path that you are forced to take in 3D segments. Which they pretty much said before. Keep in mind that the developers have never used the term “on-rails”, so any contradiction is likely journalistic interpretation being different from one news source to another.

Well, They’re trying to mimic the Engine as closely a possible for the Wii and PS2. The Engine is only 360 and PS3. It’ll still have 2.5D stages though. :)

  20. dragonite Says:

It has to have an engine..
Perhaps it will come close to the real one.

I am still worried about the ps2 version, but to be honest,it would’t make a diffirence of it is is good or not.
The main game is the xbox/ps3 one, with the wii one right behind it.

ps2 is becoming the second game boy at the rate they are going.

I am still contimplating on wether to get Sonic Unleashed for the Xbox 360, or the wii. Now i know that there are going to be significant differences on both of the systems, and now i think i might have to buy both. Im also looking foward to seeing if they put a Chao Garden in one of the new versions. That kept me going for years.

  26. Sonic The Hedgehog Says:
    Reply to this comment

Well the real fun and best experience of sonic unleashed will be found on both the XBOX360 and the PS3 entertainment gaming systems because it is made for them in the 1st place. Then comes the Wii on 2nd place with the DIMPS and the PS2 on last place with it’s horrible graphics ( even the XBOX1 owns it with a huge difference. i had them both and tried games like Shadow the hedgehog and just cause on both of the systems and i can really tell you that the PS2 suuuuuucks ) which is why i am getting it for the XBOX360 ;)

  27. EclipseScythe Says:

100% different eh? It seems it may be really worth our while to get both versions of the game. Though, the level designs will probably hve similarities, so we’ll see.

@Sonic The Hedgehog: I dunno what Shadow the Hedgehog was like on the PS2 or the Xbox… never played the game. BUT! I must protest! The PS2’s graphics aren’t that horrible! Ever played Kingdom Hearts 2 or Final Fantasy X? Or Burnout 3? Even Gran Turismo’s a very nice looking game!

But in comparison with the current-gen consoles, I do have to say that there’s no competition.

  31. Sonic The Hedgehog Says:

Well i had these games man and they were awesome ;) but burnout 3 on the xbox did a better job :) and if these games were on the xbox they would have got 12 out of 10 LOL. By the way the PS2 games are made to fit the PS2 just like sonic unleashed version for the PS2 will be ( they said that on the interview posted a few days ago )

It looks better than I thought it would. I’ve got faith in the Wii version now. :)
And that replacement for the Hedgehog Engine for the Wii version is probably the Rush Engine, which is not a shame AT ALL. :)
I mean, Mario Kart Wii is probably partially based on the DS version, but does that make it a worse game? Don’t think so!

  33. Sonic The Hedgehog Says:
    Reply to this comment

DS version not ds graphics ;) the point is that we are talking about graphics not the gameplay right now from these pictures :and ofcourse the Wii isn’t using the hedgehog engine which makes it a little worse than the XBOX360 and the PS3.

  34. Sonic The Hedgehog Says:

@Sonic The Hedgehog: Where did I say something about graphics?
I’m not taking part in any discussion that’s taking place here about graphics, I’m just stating something I thought of.
So I just commented to that part of the interview where they say the Wii version uses a brushed up engine from another game.
Therefore I believe that engine is the Rush engine (or DIMPS engine if you must) that provides the camera transitions and things like that.

  36. Sonic The Hedgehog Says:

You mean those 3D to 2D transitions? LOL as you know SEGA is a mystery so we should wait for the E3 or another cool post by the admin ;) and by the way i am sorry if i upset you by talking like that bro ;)

I just had a great idea for the Chao Gardens which are mentioned somewhere else!
Why not make a separate Wii Channel for that? Like the Mii Channel and things like that. That way, it isn’t tied to the game and you could possibly use your Chao in sequels, too, without much effort from both the player’s side and the developers’.

  39. Sonic The Hedgehog Says:

I agree to that idea 2! If a chao channel is added then you can propably save your chao in the Wii remote, i think you can also download some stuff for them from the Wii shop channel like updates and patches ;)

  41. jorenmartijn Says:

I don’t think the Wii Remote saving would work, seeing as there’s only enough space for 8 or so Miis.
If you’d suggest SD card saving, I’d totally agree with you. And the updates and patches would also be nice.

Of course that is the big question right now. But I think if they want to keep the spirit of the Adventure games in Unleashed, this should be at the top of the list of must-be-in features.
Hopefully I’ll be able to keep my patience long enough to raise a Chao, though. I tried to in Adventure 2: Battle, but it takes a long time. :S

    *************************************
    I’VE GOT THE ULTIMATE IDEA!
    **************************************
Why not remove the save files all together! It’ll be just like playing Sonic 1 or Sonic 2! As soon as you get GAME OVER… you start over from level 1. It’ll be just like playing Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 again!

It’ll be so awesome! Get 7 chaos emeralds… game over at level 2… and have to start from the very beginning! Everyone will feel like they are playing the original genesis games again!

It depends on the question of sega contacted them eary about connection.

SEGA can produce the best games ever but they just seem to get lazy at the last minutes and mess up everything ( i think they were drinking redbull at the sonic adventure days XD )

The problem is that if they added a cool thing or a feature and planned to add another in the next game they just remove the old one instead of keeping it.

You bought a port. Most ports of the griginal game (take Sonic the Hedgehog:Genesis on the GBA for instance) are bug-ridden horrible pieces of ****.

You need a better version than that to truly enjoy it. If you have a GC, buy Sonic Mega Collection.

Just try other versions of the same game before saying it’s absolute ****, thats all I’m saying.

Also, there were no treasure hunting levels because it was a 2D Platformer. All you do is try to get to the end of the levels and beat the bosses at the end. There isn’t much more depth than that.

The point of all Sonic games is to be FAST. Blazing fast. If you don’t like fast platformers, steer clear of the Sonic series altogether.

I’m done with my rant now. Continue with discussion please.

No treasure hunting levels is what would’ve theoretically raised Sonic Adventure 2’s scores (in terms of reviews.)

In some cases… it would seem that a Sonic game in which Sonic simply runs without distraction would be perfect. But Sonic 1…

  73. blahblabhblahblahdont Says:
    Reply to this comment

It doesn’t matter anyway… when Sega says Sonic is coming home, I think they mean in terms of “positive reviews” and “2d parts.” The game itself looks like Sonic Rush 3.

This game looks nothing like Sonic 1 anyway… but the werewolf parts may feel like that game. (In terms of the difference in speed.)

  74. JAMMING! Says:

The genesis Sonic games are a bit simple, and seem a bit incomplete unless you combine Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. This is coming from a non-Sega fan.

In the 3d games, Sega used treasure hunting and adventure fields to make the game long. Think of how short Sonic Adventure if you “knew” where to find the levels at first. 1 hour?

In this game, there is no treasure hunting, and no mandatory adventure fields. The genesis games were “fun,” but there is no way I am paying full price for a game of that length. If this game is to be long, it’d need huge levels… like Sonic Heroes. If the levels are short… will Sega charge full price? Sonic games are generally straight-foward, and reviewers may be very critical of this.

  75. JAMMING! Says:

    what R U TALKING ABOUT!
That is what started it all and it was a really great game.
if you want clasic feces then play super mario bros. cause that game is HORRIBLE. Nothing clataclismic and boring throughout cause u couldnt even fight the big stupid turtle dragon thing. After that i never looked at another mario game again. Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) being the first game i had ever played was great more action, longer levels and you acctually had to fight at the end.

LOL! The shortest is 6 miles? ofcourse it is XD . The sonic boost will allow you to run at 300mph hahaha ;) ( ok a little math folks. 300mph in 60 minutes which means you can clear that level at exactly 5 minutes zero seconds XD )

@: i played mario galaxy. that was fun in its own way. I liked the original sonic games because of the adrenalin rush it gave. the closest game that’s provided a similar adrenalin rush is the burnout 3, and even then it was different. It feels infinitely better to see a hedgehog run around loops than seeing a car drift.

I agree with you, for the fact that I do not believe something is best just because it is “classic.” That includes people saying the original Super Mario Bros is better than Super Mario Galaxy.

Even if a game came out in 1991… I’m not into the sentimental rubbish and I can read enough problems with it so I do not consider it superior. Somethings, I can understood are “good for their time.”
    ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((9

With that being said, a CAR TRAVELLING AT 60 MILES PER HOUR can clear 6 miles in 6 MINUTES! That means, if Sonic travels at 300 miles per hour, he can clear 6 miles in…. 6 divided by 5 minutes. 300 MPH is 5 times greater than 60 MPH. Can someone calculate how long that level is?

  85. blahblahblahblahdont Says:
    Reply to this comment

At 300 miles per hour, 6 miles is under 5 minutes. Remember, a car at 60 miles per hour can clear 6 miles in 6 minutes! 300 miles per hour is 5 times longer than that.

  86. Kev Says:

It would be nearly impossible to estimate level times without seeing the level designs. Remember, in order to achieve 5 minutes, you would need to be going 300 MPH from start to finish (that is, right off the bat, 300 MPH… no acceleration).

It may take time to achieve a top speed. It may also be that the designs are not perfectly linear (actually, we know they aren’t based on footage we’ve seen). It may also be that we encounter enemies such as bosses in the stages which we’ll have to deal with as well.
