New Nintendo Power Scans for Wii Sonic Unleashed

It’s really late. I’m a bit under the weather. I keep getting emails filled with scans from the latest Nintendo Power. This won’t be a lengthy update, and I’ll leave you to do the reading for now (in case you’ve missed them elsewhere). Otherwise, you can expect a more full take on everything tomorrow or Monday.

nice
The Wii one really looks good!
So… It’s on rails then… Ehhh….
i voted for sonic in the golden joystick awards thingy :)
WHOO! The Wii version DOES look promising. Haha! As long as they iron/weed out 99.95% of the glitches/bugs, I’m in!
This game actually looks quite well.
Good article! =)
I´m intrigued how the thing of werewolf will work… …
@Raizor:
No…. It is NOT on rails. It’s been stated several times hasn’t it?
@Torbjörn Karlsson:
No, the only thing they said about it before is that you have more free movement than Secret Rings, but less than the Adventure games.
They said it’s on-rails in the gray overview bit before the interview. It’s supposed to be the first thing you see, why does everyone keep missing it?
I’m confused. @_@ Some interviews says it’s onrails while others say it’s not. What’s the nunchucks for then?
No interviews have said it’s not on-rails, they’ve just said “more freedom than Secret Rings”.
And you can be on-rails without motion sensing. Ever play Star Fox? It just means there will be less of a chance for the controls to be sloppy.
well the graphics of the wii version are quite well….
all we got to know its the ps2 version…
will it ne well too?
one thing….. i heard in some place that it is not on rails
On rails? Eh, I liked Secret Rings so I’m okay with it. The screens are pretty nice lookin’.
Well, there wasn’t any revolutionary news, but I did read that there will be no online features and that there won’t be a real-time day/night cycle in the action stages. Man, I gotta get me this nintendo power!
Oh, and get well soon, admin!
On rails doesn’t mean Secret Rings gameplay…it just means you have a straightforward path that you are forced to take in 3D segments. Which they pretty much said before. Keep in mind that the developers have never used the term “on-rails”, so any contradiction is likely journalistic interpretation being different from one news source to another.
im just happy this game is for the wii 2 i have a PS3 and a wii so im good
No Hedgehog Engine? That’s disheartening… =/
@ChaoticFox:
Well, They’re trying to mimic the Engine as closely a possible for the Wii and PS2. The Engine is only 360 and PS3. It’ll still have 2.5D stages though. :)
It has to have an engine..
Perhaps it will come close to the real one.
I am still worried about the ps2 version, but to be honest,it would’t make a diffirence of it is is good or not.
The main game is the xbox/ps3 one, with the wii one right behind it.
ps2 is becoming the second game boy at the rate they are going.
I dunno…
I’m sure some hi-res screenshots will help, but these don’t really do much for me. I’m leaning towards the 360 version right now…
me too im leaning towards the PS3 and 360 version but im not making a final choice until i see the game in action on the wii
Won’t this game end up in japan first?
If so I’ll just wait until I hear reviews and see game play before I decide between Wii or PS3.
Mmmh, Sega hasn´t told us the exact release dates (for Europe, USA and Japan) yet! :( But I think they will tell us soon enough! ;)
I am still contimplating on wether to get Sonic Unleashed for the Xbox 360, or the wii. Now i know that there are going to be significant differences on both of the systems, and now i think i might have to buy both. Im also looking foward to seeing if they put a Chao Garden in one of the new versions. That kept me going for years.
Well the real fun and best experience of sonic unleashed will be found on both the XBOX360 and the PS3 entertainment gaming systems because it is made for them in the 1st place. Then comes the Wii on 2nd place with the DIMPS and the PS2 on last place with it’s horrible graphics ( even the XBOX1 owns it with a huge difference. i had them both and tried games like Shadow the hedgehog and just cause on both of the systems and i can really tell you that the PS2 suuuuuucks ) which is why i am getting it for the XBOX360 ;)
100% different eh? It seems it may be really worth our while to get both versions of the game. Though, the level designs will probably hve similarities, so we’ll see.
Good to see the Wii version. Looking like Secret Tings so far, which is plenty good enough for me.
I’ll definetely be getting the 360 version
Good choice Tails :) in fact it is the best ;)
@Sonic The Hedgehog: I dunno what Shadow the Hedgehog was like on the PS2 or the Xbox… never played the game. BUT! I must protest! The PS2’s graphics aren’t that horrible! Ever played Kingdom Hearts 2 or Final Fantasy X? Or Burnout 3? Even Gran Turismo’s a very nice looking game!
But in comparison with the current-gen consoles, I do have to say that there’s no competition.
Well i had these games man and they were awesome ;) but burnout 3 on the xbox did a better job :) and if these games were on the xbox they would have got 12 out of 10 LOL. By the way the PS2 games are made to fit the PS2 just like sonic unleashed version for the PS2 will be ( they said that on the interview posted a few days ago )
It looks better than I thought it would. I’ve got faith in the Wii version now. :)
And that replacement for the Hedgehog Engine for the Wii version is probably the Rush Engine, which is not a shame AT ALL. :)
I mean, Mario Kart Wii is probably partially based on the DS version, but does that make it a worse game? Don’t think so!
DS version not ds graphics ;) the point is that we are talking about graphics not the gameplay right now from these pictures :and ofcourse the Wii isn’t using the hedgehog engine which makes it a little worse than the XBOX360 and the PS3.
And by way it’s the DIMPS not the rush engine
@Sonic The Hedgehog: Where did I say something about graphics?
I’m not taking part in any discussion that’s taking place here about graphics, I’m just stating something I thought of.
So I just commented to that part of the interview where they say the Wii version uses a brushed up engine from another game.
Therefore I believe that engine is the Rush engine (or DIMPS engine if you must) that provides the camera transitions and things like that.
You mean those 3D to 2D transitions? LOL as you know SEGA is a mystery so we should wait for the E3 or another cool post by the admin ;) and by the way i am sorry if i upset you by talking like that bro ;)
@Sonic The Hedgehog: Indeed, I meant those transitions.
And Sega is a less of a mystery than Nintendo is, who are keeping their mouths shut about what they’re going to show on E3.
You didn’t upset me, by the way. ;) If you upset me, I could’ve chosen to ignore you, but I didn’t. Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough myself. :)
I just had a great idea for the Chao Gardens which are mentioned somewhere else!
Why not make a separate Wii Channel for that? Like the Mii Channel and things like that. That way, it isn’t tied to the game and you could possibly use your Chao in sequels, too, without much effort from both the player’s side and the developers’.
The chao gardens are one of the best things in sonic games. i hope you can buy things for your chao from the over world instead of a nearby kindergarten ;)
I agree to that idea 2! If a chao channel is added then you can propably save your chao in the Wii remote, i think you can also download some stuff for them from the Wii shop channel like updates and patches ;)
I don’t think the Wii Remote saving would work, seeing as there’s only enough space for 8 or so Miis.
If you’d suggest SD card saving, I’d totally agree with you. And the updates and patches would also be nice.
What matters most right now is that if they will add a chao garden or not( i hope they really do like the sonic adventure games ;) )
By the way if they did i think that there should be 7 gardens ;) each region ( or adventure field ) has it’s own like in sonic adventure 1 :)
@Sonic The Hedgehog:
Of course that is the big question right now. But I think if they want to keep the spirit of the Adventure games in Unleashed, this should be at the top of the list of must-be-in features.
Hopefully I’ll be able to keep my patience long enough to raise a Chao, though. I tried to in Adventure 2: Battle, but it takes a long time. :S
LOL i remember those days collecting the chaos drives for my chao ( never used an animal ) the chao fruits really helped and i got all the abilities to level 99( max XD ). I also got all the emblems on rank A and i played the green hill zone ( it’s cool in 3D ) but my bro deleted the save files ;..(
chao return in sonic cronicles,so this one could also have a garden.
I hope so, it would be great to have a new Chao Garden.
For me will be a very good welcome! =)
Everyone is talking about how Sonic should be “classic” like the original Sonic games right?
*************************************
I’VE GOT THE ULTIMATE IDEA!
**************************************
Why not remove the save files all together! It’ll be just like playing Sonic 1 or Sonic 2! As soon as you get GAME OVER… you start over from level 1. It’ll be just like playing Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 again!
It’ll be so awesome! Get 7 chaos emeralds… game over at level 2… and have to start from the very beginning! Everyone will feel like they are playing the original genesis games again!
hey i have a great idea chao garden in unleashed can be transferred into the ds with sonic chronicles and take care of your chao handheld just like in SA2:B
@okay: it’s a nice idea but the games are alot longer now gamers nowadays would complain because the old sonic games were simple enough to beat within 1-2 hours
