Maxi Consolas & Sonic Unleashed

According to TSS (Well, they’re citing Sega Nerds, but I can’t find the source for some reason), Portuguese Magazine “Maxi Consolas” is reporting some new Sonic Unleashed details, some of which have been of great interest in the recent discussions here at Camp Sonic:

  1. Unleashed will have level up system, in which you can enhance and improve Sonic’s abilities, much like an RPG.
  2. There will be other playable characters besides Sonic, however they will only be playable via mini games, reserving most of the game for Sonic. Tails has been the only confirmed character as of yet. There where no details regarding how the mini games would play.
  3. In addition to the African, Greek, and “High Europe” stages, there will also be levels that take place in China and New York City.
  4. Levels alternate between the 3D and 2D perspectives every thirty seconds or so. Camera work is impressive.
  5. Good impressions overall. They only complain about the frame rate.

No scans seen yet, so I can’t speak for the integrity of the information, but if TSS is reporting from SEGA Nerds, it seems fairly reliable. Get the scans to me before I find them myself and I’ll send you a present!

UPDATE:

Found the original source.  It was in the forums over at Sega Nerds.  Considering that Maxi Consolas has a Sonic Unleashed article listed under their new issue seems to make things a lot more reliable.  Still on the hunt for scans.

On a personal note, I’m really happy to see the level up system =) That ought to add a bit more depth to the game.

That is… if this is all true. Not keeping my hopes up until I see the article myself.

So, they will alternate every 30 Seconds … mmmh, first I thought the transitions between 3D and 2D would depend on the Level design, but thats really new news! I wonder how many times it would switch in a level…!? :/

whoa that’s so cool a level up system and i think that having tails knuckles amy etc. in many games is a good idea

@Rox: It could just be a general statement… you know? Like, the camera angle changes often?

This is also new info. It talks about how the PS3/XB360 version and the Wii/PS2 version might have a different amount of levels between them! Check it out.

well it switches every thirty seconds based on if ur moving at a considerable pace. if ur just standing still in 2d it wont change into 3d or vice versa

Yeah, if your going the average speed of Sonic than it would take about thirty seconds. If your slow or fast it wouldn’t change regularly.

So yes it does depend on level design.

The framerate really needs work, even in that awesome trailer it is quite oblivous.

P.S it is REALLY an update storm last days.

@dragonite: There’s only 1 moment in the trailer where i noticed frame rate problems.

The 3rd “new” bit of info was already confirmed by Power Unlimited.
    Minigames were also confirmed.

@dragonite: Nah, I’m feeling a bit better now. Still think there’s something in my system, but the Coffee really works wonders around here. Continual posting isn’t something that I mind doing… I just don’t post as much when there is nothing going on :P

@NintendoBrad: I have a feeling that the level system will mimic that of secret rings… but I may be wrong.

@dragonite: I don’t see too much of a problem with the framerate, if you ask me. Even so, I’m pretty impressed if that’s the only complaint as of now!

    Hi, guys,

This is my first post here at Camp Sonic, but since the Sega Nerds topic was mentioned, here are the scans where this piece of info came from.
Since you are currently hunting for scans, I’ll save you guys the trouble and upload the scans here:

I really don’t mind leveling up. It gave me a reason to play through the different stages over and over again in Secret Rings. I just hope you don’t have to grind like 10 lvls just to defeat a single boss or gain access to the next stage.

The framerate issue will be solved with a DX version on the PS4 and Xbox 720 with “battle” slapped on the end to make it sound more badass.

    @Hannah the Echidna:

it only happened once, but that one moment was incredible crippled, and a major problem if this happens every now and then…
I hope that it is fixed later on,which is likely.
And even if this game has minor problems,so what?
If the game is overall legendary, the framerate can be fixed in the next gaming generation.

Dragonite, you were able to notice “balloons” in a high speed trailer. You may be one of the people that can notice “bad framerate” due to your abilities.

You may be the 2nd best Sonic fan here… though not as good as a Sonic fan I am… if you tell me the exact time of the framerate trouble… I’ll be impressed.

Why always Am I the last in read the news? XD

1- Like a RPG?, I like it. I don´t think it will work like Sonic Heroes did it. I never played Sonic and the Secrets Rings, so I don´t know how the level system works.

2- Maybe the missions are playable with the others characters?.

3- I can´t imagine how will be those stages. =D

4- Every 30 seconds? wow, could be awesome.

    5- Without words, really I don´t care…

Overall, the game is going in the good track =)

    @okay…bird:

the well know spot, just before sonic breaks into that well building.
I thought I saw some other things, but my internet conection was a bit shaky earier today,so that’s it.
I saw the vid again.complete slow-down free expect for one spot, which leads me to the theory that there are others as well.

And I am not really that big of a sonic fan…
Okay I am a big one,I saw all the cutscenes of sonic 06 on youtube..
And I hog this site because the casuality is awesome.
This is growing up to be a fine community, and I am happy I am involved with it’s early days.

The reason is that I tend to bring up forums is because I like to talk when I get fired up about something, and a forum is a nice place to do that. And some social, real life stuff would also be nice at the right moment later on.

Anyway,I only noticed the baloons because I watched the trailer over and over again, which results in you looking at more details.I know the whole thing by heart now.I only saw the ones above the B-sliding tunnel, and I mistook them for classic marbles. But it was low res.In hi-res,you almost can’t miss them after a few views.

abillities? er.. well. I tend to notice stuff…. sometimes.
If I really scan something,I tend to come to conclusions.
For example, when you are grinding down the tower, there are platforms below, and you can see them litterally pop up because you can see so far.

    and as a closing note:I am drowing…in the updates.:P
in 3 days there where like 6 or something.

Bad frame rates are annoying, but they are easy to solve. I’m not worried. Even if they are work, it didn’t ruin SA2.

Then again, I am the only person who’s NEVER faced a glitch in a 3D Sonic game. Am I lucky or something? I used to think it was just whining by people. Like on Rail Canyon in Sonic heroes…at one jump you can’t go full speed or you go too far and die. A lot of people said that it’s a glitch, I was like “No, it’s a challenge!” lol

    Game sounds great.

@admin: I agree. I seemed to have taken a liking to these level up systems in the Sonic Games. LIke the power ups in SA2:B. I Dont know how they can complain about the frame rate . . . it looked fairly well to me. I’m also wondering if when the screen changes from 3-D to 2-D, will the controls change? As in when holding foward to move, will it change to right to move right?

Hey, yeah, SEGA Nerds was late posting it on their own site, but the news itself was revealed on the forums via one of SN’s usual reliable members. I wasn’t expecting them to be so late with it on the front page, but nevertheless it’s now up, complete with scans:

Which version will be best for Sonic Unleashed? Should I get it for PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii? PlayStation 3 has great graphics with nine levels for Sonic Unleashed. Will it have a Chao Garden? What characters are going to be playable?

  34. Kev Says:

no there’s gonna be a chao garden and chao no one knows how ur going to collect items for your chao but sense u have an overworld with villages towns it’s possible that u can recieve items for your chao through shops or… successfully completing missions for people etc. that and chao graphics are gonna be beautiful. I mean they HAVE to offer you something else to do besides missions like a motivation for it.

@Kev: It’s not really confirmation of anything. It was a “we’re not talking about this now” response to a very general question that wasn’t only necessarily about Chao gardens. For all we know, there could be a brand new side element to Sonic Unleashed that is taking the place of Chao.

@David Leggett: well cause i was going based on the info in the video since you put it that way i suppose there’s a possibility it might not be in, but there should be a poll: Should there be Chao in sonic unleashed?

@Kev: Yup. Felt like it’s about time I changed my name to something more personal. Folks around here suggested that before, but I needed a way to appear like an authority at the site first… you know… keep people in line… wield the mighty ban hammer… etc.

As for a poll, you’ll might just be seeing one on the seventh ;)

We’ll probably find out at E3 though. If my contact is able to pull SEGA off to the side for a moment, he’s going to ask that for us.

  45. David Leggett Says:
    Reply to this comment

@Kev: Well, Chad from ripten.com told us that they’ll be showing it off, just not ready for the press to play it yet. What elements they’ll be showing is really something we can only guess at.

My other contact might be able to get an interview with a SEGA rep, but it’s a bit of a far shot at this point.

Really, E3 could bring nothing at all for us… but it’s probably safe to say that we’ll see at least a few new things…

@David Leggett: But can we expect more closer to E3 because they’re always talking about expect more info on this game closer to E3 so maybe they might not show much but i would like to see footage of a the NYC or China level, and if possible maybe a minute or 2 of the overworld/weresonic gameplay
