yeah i’ve been annoying david about chao’s for a while now they’re really important to me i get pretty attached to em and improving their skills to breed and make them the best i possible can personally the sonic gameplay comes first and they provide an not able to put down feel. they’ve provided alot of replay value i remember not playing SA2 for almost a year or so but when i started raising a chao again i played everyday for about a month!

since this is a sonic only game without other character interference in gameplay i think it’s a good time to bring them back i really enjoy the chao and ever since the games started going downhill in the consoles (sonic heroes, riders, sonic 06) there was a decrease in appearance of the lovable chaos.

IMO i think that adding chaos like SA2 but with XBOX 360 or Wii would be CRAZY!

It all depends on whether SEGA wants to throw it in there or not.

The SMASH BROS. guys said they just didn’t feel like throwing in Voice Communication.

That’s just the way it is.

    It’ll be a good game w or w/o Chaos.

but do we really need them in sonic unleashed? I suppose it would lighten the feeling a bit. I notied in Sonic 06 that some cutscenes were really dark and foreboding. Especially in some characters faces. It would be pretty funny to see Tails or Amy go all gooey eyed over a chao in Sonic U.

It is not really needed, but if they reuse the sa2 sytstem, and up the grapics, and improve things overall you have a fine add-on.

I really liked playing with the chao in SA and SA2. If they were to bring back chao gardens, I’d hope they would add new things to it, because if not I could just play with them on my older games. I’d rather see the extra space used for something like being able to play as metal sonic through levels after completing everything in the game like they did with SADX. The speed this gme is capible of is perfect for metal sonic (and sonic too). That would give me a bunch of replay value.

I mean if they DO include chao these are possiblities and obviously something SEGA could try

Personally, as long as the game’s main focus is Sonic running at break neck speeds, I could care less if the Chao are in this game. Just as long as Omochao doesn’t go in and start getting annoying like he was in SA2. This is a SONIC game. Not a Chao game. The focus needs to be on Sonic.

Well I think we can all agree that we can indeed “live without” Chao. But raising them is 1-Fun and 2 – A very much needed part of the sonic adventure replay value, and seeing as how unleashed was supposed to be SA3, the return of the Chao would be very welcome. This is to help out Sega, of course. They need to put everything they can into this one!

Chao were great. I remember spending so much time trying to get the Dark and Hero Chaos Chao in Sonic Adventure 2. It was a chore raising Chao and doing the races in Sonic Adventure 1, so I just transfered copies of my pre-raised SA2 Chao and got it that way. :P

One of the reasons why Chao and the A-LIFE system were added to Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 was to help ease newer Sonic players into the game and the mechanics by having collect the small animals and Chaos Drives from the enemies in the level (and the keys to unlock the Chao Garden for each character in Sonic Adventure 2) Admittedly, they strayed away from trying from that sort of thing in more recent games. The in-game tutorials in Sonic Rush Adventure and in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity were great, and I would love to see such an in-depth, seemingly simple yet deceptively complex system like the Chao in Sonic Unleashed to help new Sonic players to take what they might learn in an in-depth tutorial further and to add replay value for more experienced players due to the absense of multiplayer and those sort of things. Maybe make Chao optional for getting all emblems? But either way, I’d love to see the Chao come back, but then again, I wouldn’t mind if they weren’t in…

@Xeternalstar: They got their name because of the ties they have to Chaos. :P
@Janusz: There is a Chao Garden in Sonic Chronicles, which you can access after you’ve located and hatched Chao Eggs you’ll find in the stages. The Chao also give stat bonuses and resistances to certain types of damages if you equip them. I don’t believe that the Chao Garden will be able to link up in anyway to the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed, BUT you will be able to trade your Chao with your friends who also have Sonic Chronicles, possibly with the world via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. :D

Chao were probably my favorite part of the Sonic Adventure games cause after I beat them like 4 times the story modes got pretty boring. So for me breeding and raising Chao added hours upon hours of extra replay value to the games. So if they do include a Chao garden then that would make Sonic Unleashed the best Sonic game ever!!!………….even though it probably will be even if the don’t include one!!!

I think a Chao System should be implemented in the same way it was in Sonic Adventure – whilst not a required part of the game, you could pick up various items for your Chao during the main stages, and raise your Chao in a Chao Garden.

Perhaps the Wii version could have a downloadable version of the Chao garden for the DS?

  83. WiiFP Says:

@Nik: Good idea, but i dont think they would put things in the stages to take to your Chao. It wouldnt live up to their promises of it being mainly about Sonic. Maybe they could give the Chao their own mode. And levels designed for chao to get their own things that they require.

I would really enjoy it if they did have Chao gardens in Sonic Unleashed. But i would still get the game even if they didn’t. I just don’t want Sega/Sonic Team to rush through the game like they did in Sonic 06. Cause I don’t want to wait for the game to load for 2 minutes just to do go thorugh a chao race. Also in my opinion if they have some extra time they should make online challenges to race other chaos (yeah i know they won’t have multiplayer or online in Sonic Unleashed but what if they change their mind). In Sonic Heros, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 06 I thought those keys/medallions were the key to go to Chao world. Well this is what I wanted to say

Nik and WiiFP, you bring up some interesting points. While being able to collect items for the Chao Garden a la Sonic Adventure would be nice…you wouldn’t want it so that it would take away from the focus on Sonic. I’d love a Tiny Chao Garden for the DS, maybe you could also get one from the DS Download Stations. Some stores have them, they give you free game trailers and demos for your DS.

@Kev: Chaos went beserk and became Perfect Chaos when Pachamac and his troops ran over the Chao near the emerald shrine and Tikal in order to get the Chaos Emeralds. …SA2, no significant role, although they do play a key role in Sonic Rivals too.

@WOWZ: If you can’t find someway to contribute to the discussion constructively, as opposed to condemning the Chao left and right…uh, well, there’s really nothing I can do about it. Seriously, I hope that Sega decides to put the Chao Garden in this upcoming game. It just seemed to have added much more replay value to the games, because in games like Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2, you could collect things to give to your chao to boost their skills up. Nearly same thing with Advance games, but the point is that you could take things from the adventure mode of the game, take it to the Chao Garden, let them interact with them, and relax and take care of your chao. It really added something you could do with your game if you decided that you didn’t want to do the stages!

so is it definite then? no multiplayer in SU. Thats crazy! I never raised my own chao before cos I never got SA or SA2. I know its sad…. If this game has no multiplayer perhaps the Chao will bunk up the replay value. Or maybe the RV will be like in Sonic heroes or Sonic 06 where you go back and do different levels and get A or S rank to unlock things. Though in Sonic 06 that whole system was messed up so just sonic heroes then. But I would still really like to try a chao garden, must be awesome fun.

Hmm, if chao are in it, I wonder how the hero/dark training will occur since it varies with each game. I think it would be cool if SEGA used the day/night transition in the chao garden and incorporated it into the hero/dark chao. For example, if you handle a chao mostly during the day, it will become a hero, night for dark and both day and night about evenly for neutral. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

    100th Comment Whoo!

To get a Hero chao, Pet them with Sonic. To get a Dark Chao, pet them with Weresonic. It’s a simple and well-fitting procedure, I think SEGA should consider it.

I don’t know if this has been said, but I think that there should be a Chao garden in game. It was great, and it adds lots of hours of fun to the game. Also, it would be great a Chao channel, that works just like Wii’s Mii channel. You can put your chao in an online plaza, and you see other chao coming to visit you, etc…

you should have sonic pet chao for hero chao, weresonic for dark, and you would be able to unlock new characters to go in with.
Hero: Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Silver, etc.
    Dark: Shadow, Omega, Rouge, etc
Also there should be a character who could keep them neutral or change them to neutral like Tikal or Chaos.
another thing they could have are new stats like Intelligence 3 new chao where a hero type would look like silver, maybe nutral would resemble blaze.
or whole new alliances called future and prehistoric or something and add 10 new chao! where Tikal may be prehistoric and silver the future.
another idea would be to have a customizable chao garden!
those are some of my ideas.
PS: I put that I will not buy the game if chao weren’t in it but i probably will anyway.

Looking at ‘chaos’ over and over is unbeliebably annoying. The plural of chao, believe it or not, is chao. When you add an unwanted ’s’ to chao, the word becomes chaos [kay-oss] like the emeralds.

Chao were a very fun part of SA2B[GCN] and SADX[GCN]. I would love to see them be included in Sonic Unleashed. The Wii is most deserving if the two less levels holds true. Lacking two levels and having worse graphics than the PS3 and 360 isn’t too fair to the Wii. Having a Chao Garden on it would make up for the other two and would be an awesome addition.

@Knux: once again i would like to say its a RUMOR does anyone knows what that means its not true no one knows if it’s true or not SEGA needs to confirm it or unconfirm the amount of levels

second of all why would they give the wii version chao garden and not the other 2 and the pictures of the wii version were taken by a digital camera not scanned! besides the graphics are gonna be better than the Sonic and the Secret rings said Yoshihisa he said the dimps and other sonic team is focused on wringing every single last drop of power they can get from the wii! remember the mario galaxy graphics those ones rivaled the ps3 beauty and it was a long game tons of diffenent levels and islands and alot of extra things to do. plus they could add the 2 levels because most of the data is saved onto the system.

there is a chance that if they add Chao Garden to this game that it will NOT be in PS3 or Xbox360 because Sonic Chronicles could connect and there could be interactivity in the controller for chao races and shaking trees, petting Chao, shaking eggs and such. also I have no idea about the PS2 version.

I really don’t care that much about Chao. Never did in SA or SA2 either. But if they make them optional and not required to complete the game 100% like SA and SA2 did, I guess it wouldn’t affect me.

wouldn’t it be awesome if you could teach chao commands, then depending on if the chao likes you or not (and it’s personality), it will ether questionably obey, obediently obey, happily obey, reluctantly obey, or not obey at all.

If they added chao’s I wouldn’t only have great graphics and a fantastic game play, they would also have the 1 thing that really gave Sega a “boost” up in the sonic adventure series! Chao’s are sorta a important and fun part in the game! I still play them on sonic adventure 2 battle!! It would really make this game a great thing to buy.

  120. Sonic#1fan4life Says:

Also to include, Chao is really a big thing in the sonic games it’s been in (4). But I know that a lot of people would buy the game, not just for it’s graphics, game play, etc. they would also buy it because to admit, they are cute and personally I love to gain there levels and all of that!

P.S. If you do put in the Chao, how are you going to train them like the Chaos drives and animals??

  121. Spittingup Says:

@Sonic#1fan4life: To get chaos drives and animals and stuff you would probably be able to get them in minigames or something.
I actually bought sonic adventure 2 battle 3 times since they kept getting extremely scratched because i would always leave it out.
    I still have the third.

@Spittingup: maybe you would have either do minigames like u said or go through towns doing missions to win your chao items or better yet since eggman’s robots actually fight u this time around u can probably just destroy his bot’s for animals

@ Kev: I dunno where I got that from, but it was a reliable source. Either way, ‘chaos’ just seems dumb when it looks like Chaos [kay-oss] like the emeralds and Chaos Zero.

And what do you mean the other console users would complain? If this two levels left out rumor is true, Wii users would complain as well. I was saying that the Wii definitely deserved it if the two levels are missing and that its graphics will not be as good as the PS3 and 360.

And to the graphics, I wasn’t talking about the photo. The Wii’s graphics WON’T be as good, it’s fact. Since when has a PS3/360 game had worse graphics than its Wii counterpart? Also, they have the Hedgehog Engine while the Wii does not. Obviously the Wii needs something to make up for all of this.

It’s a 9 out of 10 chance that chao are going to be in unleashed. I saw an interview with the producer of the game and when the interviewer asked about chao he jumped and said, “We’ll be talking about that kind of stuff closer to E3,” moreover they already said that there will be chao in chronicles so there’s probably going to be a way to transfer them between the two games.
