  1. and if they wanted to and couldnt make it in time for the game they’re is always a possiblitie of it being an add-on… the online chao ranking thing

  2. I picked “Fun, but i cant live without ‘em” because, of course, they are extremely entertaining. But what i’ve seen about Sonic Unleashed, Im definately buying it with or without Sonic. Also because i’ve been a Sonic fan since i was a small toddler.

    @Rox:
“DidnĀ“t sega told us that this will be the game we waited for? Then, they should include them, they have to if this is THE game!!! :/”

No, that’s not what SEGA have said, that’s what the critics and the fansboys who wants to hype up this game have said.

  4. @G&E: Ooo, nice ideas. I agree. I’d like to see how they would make the new chao gardens, new next gen chao, chao races, new types based on characters in recent games. It all seems so beatiful, if only they make it real . . .

  5. @WiiFP: CRAP! i thought that poll said ” Fun, but i CANT live without em ” wow there i go screwing up again.

  6. @WiiFP: Wow, i didnt know c-r-a-p, and s-c-r-e-w-i-n-g were prohibited.

  7. Hey folks, glad to see the interest taken in this poll. As you may know, I’m in the wilderness this week. Well, turns out there’s no satellite coverage here like I thought there would be… I have to hike to the top of a valley to get any signal, and its only enough for quick tasks like posting a comment.

So, I won’t be here with you all for the rest of the week :( ill be back by the 13th though, just in time for E3. Don’t do anything banworthy while I’m gone!

  8. Chao have always been a side part to the main game so I’d be happy if there in. It’s not like I won’t buy the game if they’re not in, but it’d be nice to have something else to do besides mini games.

  9. @David Leggett: Um . . . How are you gonna pick winners for the Fanart Contest?

  10. no multiplayer or online interaction of any kind. this game needs chao for replay value. Its just sad becuase chao r the perfect thing go online with.

  11. Mynameisonic July 8, 2008

Chao where the main reason why Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 had replay value. I went through stages for hours getting chaos drives and small animals to get my chao up to ridiculously high levels. Never managed to get a Chaos chao, but I do have a couple that could be if I went back and raised them…
*goes and digs out SA2 disk*

  12. NintendoBrad July 8, 2008

They made me play Sonic Adventure 2 way after I beat the final boss, so they can mean only good things for Unleashed, if they’re in.

  13. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER. SRSLY.

  14. Christian July 8, 2008

Someone voted for what’s a chao. Wow. Must have been a kidder. >_>

  15. JAOUADDDD July 8, 2008

LET SEGA PUT THEM IN IT OR ELSE ILL DIEE AHHHHH!!!!

  16. chao are nice, but i prefer they perfect the game as a whole then worry about that. if they got to that ps3 could connect to psp and wii could connect to ds like vmus and gbas

  17. Personally, as long as the game’s main focus is Sonic running at break neck speeds, I could care less if the Chao are in this game. Just as long as Omochao doesn’t go in and start getting annoying like he was in SA2. This is a SONIC game. Not a Chao game. The focus needs to be on Sonic.

  18. Well I think we can all agree that we can indeed “live without” Chao. But raising them is 1-Fun and 2 – A very much needed part of the sonic adventure replay value, and seeing as how unleashed was supposed to be SA3, the return of the Chao would be very welcome. This is to help out Sega, of course. They need to put everything they can into this one!

….and it would be cool to see Chaos again too..

  19. Janusz July 8, 2008

@Xeternalstar: I love raising the chao but it can seem like a chore at times, so they should make it easier for them to be raised. Also you should be able to play as a chao when it comes to racing, or maybe even have a separate story line in which you play as a chao.

  20. Janusz July 8, 2008

Oh yeah, there should also be a chao garden on Sonic Chronicles in which you can connect to.

  21. Well, if Chao added a complete year and a half replay value to Sonic Adventure 2 for me, I don’t see why it’d hurt to have them in Unleashed, ^_-.

  23. I HATE CHAO!!!

I WANT TO RIP THEYRE PUNY HEARTS OUT AND THROW THEM ONTO STICKS AND ROAST THEM OVER A FIRE!!!

    DIE CHAO, DIE!!

    THEYRE SOOOOO ing STUPID!!!

I WISH THEY ALL DIED AND NEVER CAME INTO THE SONIC UNIVERSE!!!

    AAAAARRRRGGGGG!!!
    ————————————————————————

But seriously though, I hate their guts.

  24. wiinterfang July 8, 2008

    Woah dude woah!!! Calm down.

  25. iNAUDiBLE July 8, 2008

Chao were great. I remember spending so much time trying to get the Dark and Hero Chaos Chao in Sonic Adventure 2. It was a chore raising Chao and doing the races in Sonic Adventure 1, so I just transfered copies of my pre-raised SA2 Chao and got it that way. :P

One of the reasons why Chao and the A-LIFE system were added to Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 was to help ease newer Sonic players into the game and the mechanics by having collect the small animals and Chaos Drives from the enemies in the level (and the keys to unlock the Chao Garden for each character in Sonic Adventure 2) Admittedly, they strayed away from trying from that sort of thing in more recent games. The in-game tutorials in Sonic Rush Adventure and in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity were great, and I would love to see such an in-depth, seemingly simple yet deceptively complex system like the Chao in Sonic Unleashed to help new Sonic players to take what they might learn in an in-depth tutorial further and to add replay value for more experienced players due to the absense of multiplayer and those sort of things. Maybe make Chao optional for getting all emblems? But either way, I’d love to see the Chao come back, but then again, I wouldn’t mind if they weren’t in…

@Xeternalstar: They got their name because of the ties they have to Chaos. :P
@Janusz: There is a Chao Garden in Sonic Chronicles, which you can access after you’ve located and hatched Chao Eggs you’ll find in the stages. The Chao also give stat bonuses and resistances to certain types of damages if you equip them. I don’t believe that the Chao Garden will be able to link up in anyway to the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed, BUT you will be able to trade your Chao with your friends who also have Sonic Chronicles, possibly with the world via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. :D
@WOWZ: Wow, irrational and overdramatic hatred for fictional video game characters much? ; )

  26. CekOne July 8, 2008

Chao Were Awesome in Sonic AD 1 and Sonic Ad 2 I hope to see them back again =)

  27. and why do you hate them? what did they do to you?

  28. @WOWZ: Ya, really, all they do is run around happily in a garden and eat. I think you just want attention, calm down buddy.

  29. Chao were fun, but I still don’t see them as a staple of the franchise (even though, I guess, they’ve been around long enough)

Throwing them in a game where they’re not related to anything in the story seems kind of strange.

  30. who knows maybe chao’s will calm down weresonic when he goes berserk! but they didnt have anything significant to do in SA and SA2

  31. Huriken the hedgehog July 8, 2008

Chao were probably my favorite part of the Sonic Adventure games cause after I beat them like 4 times the story modes got pretty boring. So for me breeding and raising Chao added hours upon hours of extra replay value to the games. So if they do include a Chao garden then that would make Sonic Unleashed the best Sonic game ever!!!………….even though it probably will be even if the don’t include one!!!

  32. I think a Chao System should be implemented in the same way it was in Sonic Adventure – whilst not a required part of the game, you could pick up various items for your Chao during the main stages, and raise your Chao in a Chao Garden.

Perhaps the Wii version could have a downloadable version of the Chao garden for the DS?

  33. @Nik: Good idea, but i dont think they would put things in the stages to take to your Chao. It wouldnt live up to their promises of it being mainly about Sonic. Maybe they could give the Chao their own mode. And levels designed for chao to get their own things that they require.

  34. Attention from the Sonic Fandom? Please.

Chao are so stupid and idiotic. That is all.

  35. But I could see how people like them, they are a bit cute.

And then they kill you in the night *shivers*

  36. Sonicman July 8, 2008

I would really enjoy it if they did have Chao gardens in Sonic Unleashed. But i would still get the game even if they didn’t. I just don’t want Sega/Sonic Team to rush through the game like they did in Sonic 06. Cause I don’t want to wait for the game to load for 2 minutes just to do go thorugh a chao race. Also in my opinion if they have some extra time they should make online challenges to race other chaos (yeah i know they won’t have multiplayer or online in Sonic Unleashed but what if they change their mind). In Sonic Heros, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 06 I thought those keys/medallions were the key to go to Chao world. Well this is what I wanted to say

PS. David Leggett are you the admin

  37. Sonicman July 8, 2008

Oh yeah I also want to add that I don’t have a Nintendo DS so I can’t try the game but atleast I still have a PS3

  38. iNAUDiBLE July 8, 2008

Nik and WiiFP, you bring up some interesting points. While being able to collect items for the Chao Garden a la Sonic Adventure would be nice…you wouldn’t want it so that it would take away from the focus on Sonic. I’d love a Tiny Chao Garden for the DS, maybe you could also get one from the DS Download Stations. Some stores have them, they give you free game trailers and demos for your DS.

@Kev: Chaos went beserk and became Perfect Chaos when Pachamac and his troops ran over the Chao near the emerald shrine and Tikal in order to get the Chaos Emeralds. …SA2, no significant role, although they do play a key role in Sonic Rivals too.

@WOWZ: If you can’t find someway to contribute to the discussion constructively, as opposed to condemning the Chao left and right…uh, well, there’s really nothing I can do about it. Still, most of the people who don’t like Chao who have posted before you have acted a lot more rational about it. You’ve made your point, don’t wear it out. :)

  40. Aregulardude July 8, 2008

Seriously, I hope that Sega decides to put the Chao Garden in this upcoming game. It just seemed to have added much more replay value to the games, because in games like Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2, you could collect things to give to your chao to boost their skills up. Nearly same thing with Advance games, but the point is that you could take things from the adventure mode of the game, take it to the Chao Garden, let them interact with them, and relax and take care of your chao. It really added something you could do with your game if you decided that you didn’t want to do the stages!

  41. We will probably have to email the rest of the winners after I return.

  42. @Aregulardude: I agree with you the chao’s provided alot of replay value just like any fan i will OBVIOUSLY buy the game w/ or w/o the chao’s but it was really fun and i could see SEGA using the Overworld hubs to nurture your chao u could just find the chao garden in the continent african continent = desert forest fort garden type, Europe garden kinda in a building like a mini room with a fountain pool and mini plants etc. they’re is alot of possibilities so we just have to wait I expect E3 to bring us Were sonic info but i would also like a confirmation on whether or wether not we will be seeing our blue spongy friends. If we do a small video or screenshot would be nice

  43. @David Leggett: Dude i sent my art check your mail i wanna see if i got a chance!

  44. Ok, so if UNLEASHED does include a chao garden, then i hope they revamp and improve from the adventure series.. The chao should be more smart (better a.i) and should actually grow in size, and weight and overall, better intellegence and a.i.

I VOTED FOR Fun, but I can live without ‘em.

(THOUGH i would love to see them make a comeback on this title or down the road, like S-UNLEASHED 2.)

  45. Sonicman July 8, 2008

You know they should add the stuff that was missing SA1 chao garden and SA2 chao garden to SU (like chao library, chao playground, all those weird looking chao and more etc.)

to understand what I’m saying look it up on Sonic Cult.

  46. TailstheHedgehog July 9, 2008

so is it definite then? no multiplayer in SU. Thats crazy! I never raised my own chao before cos I never got SA or SA2. I know its sad…. If this game has no multiplayer perhaps the Chao will bunk up the replay value. Or maybe the RV will be like in Sonic heroes or Sonic 06 where you go back and do different levels and get A or S rank to unlock things. Though in Sonic 06 that whole system was messed up so just sonic heroes then. But I would still really like to try a chao garden, must be awesome fun.

  47. TailstheHedgehog July 9, 2008

please no one think of a huge house on wheels when I say RV.
    lol

  48. Hannah the Echidna July 9, 2008

Hmm, if chao are in it, I wonder how the hero/dark training will occur since it varies with each game. I think it would be cool if SEGA used the day/night transition in the chao garden and incorporated it into the hero/dark chao. For example, if you handle a chao mostly during the day, it will become a hero, night for dark and both day and night about evenly for neutral. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

  49. Chaos Blast July 9, 2008

    100th Comment Whoo!

To get a Hero chao, Pet them with Sonic. To get a Dark Chao, pet them with Weresonic. It’s a simple and well-fitting procedure, I think SEGA should consider it.
