Camp Sonic

Will the Wii and PS2 get the shorter straw with only 7 levels?

Before starting with this one, let me emphasize that this is a rumor. Again, rumor. Unconfirmed. Might not be true.

Not that we have reason to claim that Crispy Gamer is spreading false information, we simply don’t have any reason to believe they are right about what they are reporting at this time. I was actually almost not even going to post about this, and kind of let it sit on the back burner for a while, but it’s causing enough of a stir around TSSZ and TSS that I thought I’d get some of your thoughts about the whole debacle.

Unleashed will ship on four platforms: Wii, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The big difference between them: The 360 and PS3 versions (in addition to their superior graphics) will feature nine levels; the Wii and PS2 will have only a paltry seven, and much crappier graphics.

Among other things, they are claiming that we won’t see ANY playtime from Tails or Amy, something we’re not entirely sure about either

if this is true im still getting the PS3 version LOL. If it is false good because the Wii needs some good games that are not shortened for the sake of shortening it.

I think Sonic team should make aeven number of levels to both consoles cause there’s alot of sonic fans out there that don’t have the money tobuy a ps3

they repeated the better grapics twice
7 levels is enough, the levels are orginally created,so they might be longer or something like that.

9 doesnt sound like alot. But halo 3 only had 9 levels (i think) and it was brilliant. Dragonite I think u r on the dot when you say they will be longer. Perhaps there r checkpoints inbetween them and like in some past games one level is split into 2 or 3 different sections.

That’s bullcrap! How is it that the wii version of star wars the force unleashed will have 5 more new levels than the Ps3, 360, and Ps2 including a vs. mode and sega has to remove two levels from SU just cause they think the wii can’t do it. That’s the most stupidest thing I ever heard of.

Normally the Wii would include MORE levels in some cases so why is this the opposite?

The PS2 I understand, but I guess the Wii controls are going to be so complex that they had to take some levels out.

    Well, that makes sense. lol

They should be ashamed if they’d dare cut on the number of levels for the Wii. Especially since the Wii can handle content like Brawl and Galaxy, there’s not even a reason for cutting on levels. Just redesign the levels if the Wii can’t handle them!
(I’m not mentioning the PS2 here since I believe it’s the cause of the cut on levels if this rumor proves to be true. )

If this rumor is indeed true, then its mostly due to the length of the levels, if any. I heard from another site(can’t remember which one, so don’t ask) that the shortest level is an astounding six miles.

with that being said, this rumor could have some truth to back it up.

Hopefully this IS just a rumor. SEGA hasn’t made very good games since Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic heroes was pretty decent though. Anyways SEGA shouldn’t be “ripping off” other consoles. Nintendo has been one of Sega’s best supporters as I can see. And making “crappier graphics and less levels” Is a big Rip off probably to save money and being cheap, which is the reason Sonic has been falling. It really wouldnt matter if the graphics were like they were in Sonic Adventure:DX because graphics arnt the main problem and anyone who thinks so really needs a reality cheek. Gameplay is the real problem because if we cant play them game its not a good game, so if the Wiimotes cant handle the complex gameplay then switch it to the GC or Classic controller like they made for Brawl.

  28. Kev Says:

hey guys maybe we shouldnt beat on the wii even if the graphics arent that good cause by now isnt it evident that some games with awsome graphics play really bad i especially hate to beat on sonic but remember Sonic 06 everyone was like this is THE game the graphics are amazing but when people played regardless of the graphics the glitches and problems made them immediately stop.

so to u wii haters even if the graphics arent as good all i want is the great gameplay the graphics come second cause when Sonic 06 came out no one ever complimented the graphics they just beat on the gameplay itself so remember that i have a feeling sonic unleashed for the wii is gonna look great and play great cause those pictures we saw they were taken by a digital camera! i read that on the tssz news article

At this early point of development, I’m really not considering this possibility until I hear it from a Sega/Sonic Team rep from an interview or something similar to that. But in the case that there WILL only be 7 levels for the PS2/Wii versions, then It won’t bother me as much, considering that SatSR was an okay game, but only had seven levels, but had all these missions that you could do in the levels (most I gave up on, lol). But as long as they have some interesting things in the levels, bring back acts, and do some other miscellaneous things that I don’t know about, I’ll be contempt with it…

    @SMBZ1:
funny thing about what you said…
the development budget of Sonic 06 was MUCH bigger than that of Sonic and the Secret Rings, and yet the latter if the games actually sold a million units, unlike expensive Sonic 06.
So does Sega feel thankful for Nintendo? I guess not! XD
But I am willing to see just how the gameplay vs. graphics work in the Wii version. I think with less time to spend on graphics, hopefully the controls will be tighter than what they’ve been in the past, and hopefully that will feel good!

At this point, it’s complete and total bullshark. When somebody litters supposed facts with loaded opinions, an alarm goes off in my head. I already said this in another journal post where a comment about this came off, but here’s the gist of it…

They claim that “the Wii version has crappier graphics” and “There will be no interspecies romance in this installment” are FACTS. The first one is merely an opinion and while I doubt that there will be any interspecies romance in Sonic Unleashed, (The public was outraged! INFURIATED. Because character shipping is more important than the actual game, obviously. :P ) there isn’t anything that says there WON’T be. Unless SEGA/Sonic Team disprove it. Or it doesn’t show up in the finished product. Or several disgruntled fans go over to Japan and force Sonic Team to MAKE it so that there isn’t interspecies romance and then blog about their success.

While I don’t doubt Crispy’s word when it comes to actually PLAYING the game (the facts 3 & 5 were completely consistent with what we’ve heard so far, along with some “hiccups” in the frame rate), the rest of the facts I’m VERY skeptical with.

@DWalrus: Yes, I got that it was based on a publisher-driven demo. How the heck would they know from the demo version of a game about how many levels the game would have? The game is still very much in development, and for all we know, the Wii/PS2 development team could still be working on those two levels.

    What I found interesting was that I didn’t remember seeing that comment about “the action hiccuping more than Grandpa on holiday schnapps” and the little snippet about the preview being based on a publisher-driven demo the first time I read the preview a few weeks ago. Either there’s something fishy going on or my brain hiccups more than Grandpa on holiday schnapps. It wouldn’t be the first time. o__o;;

@blu_7: Interesting point you bring up, I’d assume that longer levels would help to compensate for not having that many to go with. Choosing quantity over…lack of quantity?

    After just reading this rumor,

Notice the ending towards the Wii/PS2 versions will have much “crappier” graphics. Who could be that dense to add that too a fact? I mean, come on.

Wii can handle twelve stages. Gees, they’ve got enough room now on that type of CD that’s meant for that system; as for PS2, about the same! Gees, an easy logic explained there. Bigger formated CD, more data. Not to mention most of that memory gets saved up on the system itself.

Gees, and look at another hint “Tails and Amy” not appearing? Sonic Team doesn’t anger fans. Not like THAT. They always like to cameo, or simply add their character. Pretty sure they are still stuck to the concept that they’ll be playable for mini- games. That what was what the plan was!

On my final note. This guy doesn’t even have a feed where he got this information. Wouldn’t he/she be smart enough to state where this news was mention? Ah, how noobs don’t plain their tactics.

I know this was rumored on TSSZ and TSS. But sometimes pretty much they have people on there starting this ****. No offense to people that go on there. The reason why Crispy Gamer is possibly spreading false information.

Just here to dispell some rumors:

    - Romances of any kind have not been mentioned… so those are all rumors.

    - No direct screenshots of the Wii yet, but it is true that it will not be using the hedgehog engine. The hardware capabilities of the Wii are not as great as that of the PS3 or Xbox 360.

    - Demo? Maybe not…

    - There is no screenshot with a Chao in it.

    - Tails and Amy will appear in Sonic Unleashed. Not sure on specifics about who is playable, or how.

    - This is a rumor. Crispy Gamer might be stating the truth, but since I have no way of knowing where they got their info from, I wouldn’t take it to seriously at this point.

I think this rumor could be fake cause I remeber 3 years ago I remember when Sonic Stadium reported that a guy from Sonic Team (Yuji Naka I think) said they would release lots of sonic games to the PS3 and I worked hard to get the PS3, and now I feel disappointed now cause a few months/years later the Wii got Sonic and the Secret Ring, Mario and Sonic Olympics, and Sonic Riders Zero Gravity (even through it was for the Ps2 also). While I only got Sonic 06 and that got the worse ratings out of these games.

Note: Yeah I know there is Sega Superstar Tennis but its not a game I would want and I don’t think it could be better then Mario and Sonic Olympics

@G&E: 1st of all, everyone try to remember this is ONLY A RUMOR lol

2nd of all, I don’t know if anyone noticed, but games nowadays are using slo-mo animation
(it’s hard to explain, but if u watch a Burst Limit Trailer, then watch Sonic U Trailer, you’ll see that the animation slows down)

That takes up ALOT of the game, PLUS THE DETAIL OF THE LEVELS means that games these days can’t have alot of gameplay.

I mean SA2 for GC had alot of levels and DBZ Tenkaichi had, like 60 people

Now Burst Limit for 360/PS3 has, like, 20 people!

3rd of all, maybe the 9 or 7 levels will be split into acts or something………………….lol?

Also, remember Sonic will be able to walk around and interact with people, so that could count as a level in itself

I’m just trying to say that games these days are all about graphics.

The Wii is all about game quality. That’s why I don’t know which Sonic to buy: Wii or 360!

    Someone HELP ME! lol

I’m a Wii fan all the way :)

But if I had to choose one I’d have to go with 360, despite the XBOX Sonic 06 fiasco lol

I still plan to get the next gen version and a Wii version…the level designs and structure have been confirmed to be radically different. Why not buy both? If I didn’t have a Wii, I’d get PS3 and PS2 and play it on the same system haha.

I know this is a rumor.

But…I would like to point out. Wii does have a double layer disk technology. Brawl had to use it. So if Sonic Unleashed had to use it, that’s the optional route.

Just in case people forgot about that already.

Just finished my (daily) hike to the top of the valley to touch base with everyone. Want to wickly restate that yes, the contest is delayed until I get back. Deadline is the same, but I won’t be picking or announcing any more winners until the 13th or afterwards.

Glad to see that PS2 magazine scans have been found. Ill check them out soon! From what ice heard, there is nothing new in it.

Keep your eyes peeled for any new happenings folks!

Right, ladles and gentlespoons, remember, this is still a rumor. If the supposed November release date for Unleashed holds true, then it means all versions of the game still have more or less five months of development time, which means that the Wii/PS2 version still can (and probably will, but that’s just my opinion…) all the levels that the XBOX 360/PS3 version has, but with differences in layout and design.

@G&E: The game is being made for the PS2 due to SEGA’s company commitment to continue to make titles for the console. Unlike Gamecube and XBOX, who have essentially reached the end of their life cycle, the PS2, for whatever reason, still has games being made for it. Sort of like the Dreamcast; in America and most every other country, it was essentially dead, but third-party developers continued to make new games for it in Japan until 2007…and developers of original “homebrewed” games make them for the console to this very day~

…and it’s worth noting that some people don’t have the means to afford a next gen console like the Wii/XBOX 360/Playstation 3, so they have to settle with the older consoles until they can get one. So, as long as you’re a PS2 owner, you can join in the fun, eh~

@ShadoHejjihoggu: You win the internet. <3

@Kev: She didn’t say that she was in love with Weresonic, although it is plenty obvious that she likes the character. Where did you find the awesome scans from the PS2 magazine?

(I find it funny that they consider it OUR Earth. Riiiiiiiiight…)

@Sonic The Hedgehog: What…you…saw? …Other than the lag when you enter the tube, I didn’t see much wrong.

Something interesting I saw in the High Europe trailer, ITEM BOXES. When Sonic, after the dodging barrel boxes, homing attacks those floating enemies, if you look to the left, you can see a Shield powerup that’s in a container that looks like a mix between the classic Sonic TV boxes and the Sonic Adventure item capsules.

Omigosh. I JUST found out about this game like… half an hour ago xD lame huh? I don’t do much Sonic surfing anymore…

I am REALLY hoping there won’t be any ‘interspecies romance’ in this game, if that’s true. (it better be!) Amy’s ok, but I wish she’d stop kissing the ground Sonic tears up. =)

I’m NOT against the werewolf idea (I really like it, kind of drifting towards ‘dark sonic’ as some call it) but I’m just curious on opinions; if anyone else here has played Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess… can you see a kind of small likeness? I’m just a bit suspicious…

the wii can handle virtually ps3 grafx i mean have you seen sonic in smash bros he looks awesome, much betr than the satsr sonic geez, his fur looked like clay with scratches in it AND didnt glow or really react to light in satsr but it did in smash bros. sega should wake up and use 1. normal maping 2. a better light engine 3. a better homing attack engine. seriously have u guys seen mario galaxy and dewy’s adventure, AWESOME GAME ENGINES!!!!
if they would look at what the wii can do instead of asume it can only put up with gcn level graphics, they might realize how idiotic the idea of the wii having “crappy” graphics is!!! another example is an M rated game i saw at bestbuy called no more heros, ps3 level graphics, honest. look it up david look up no more heros and see the engine on that baby!!!!!!!!!*calms down* ok you guys probably get my point now. but sega does need to become aware of other games from other companies. ok, im done.

    1. Wait until a Sega Representative (did I spell that right) says some thing like this. Probably at E3.

    2. Just a rumour.

    3. If they did 9-7 levels they would put like 4-3 acts.

The Wii version of the game will be developed specifically to take advantage of its controller’s capabilities, with notable differences in gameplay. The game will use the Wii Remote and/or Nunchuk option; whilst character movement and basic actions will be assigned to buttons, certain actions will benefit from physical movements.[4] It will support the GameCube controller, and also the option of using the Classic Controller. The levels, whilst sharing the same styles, themes and motifs as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, will be different to those shared between the Wii[4][17] and the PlayStation 2 versions,[5] and Dimps will only be involved with design of the daytime stages for these versions.[3]

Unleashed is intended solely as a single-player experience, and will not offer any multiplayer or online modes.[4]

I was never crazy about the Wii’s motion controls, and my PS2 is now obsolete ever since I got a 80GB PS3. So I, personally, am not bothered by the rumored level reduction… But that would totally suck for people who are buying it for the Wii/PS2! I mean, SHEESH, what could possibly be so different and/or difficult about those two levels anyway? If it IS true then are the Wii/PS2 versions gonna have something else special?

This level shortage thing ain’t gonna pull through, you just wait. Rumors these days! Just like Kid Icarus Wii concept art…Fake!

The official website of Sonic Unleashed has a list of levels for sonic unleashed (it’s not a complete list yet, because they don’t want to entirely spoil the game for you most likely). I can’t remember which level it is, but at the bottom of one of the level’s screen’s, in paranthesis, it says something like “only in the xbox 360/ps3 versions.” But only 1 of the revealed levels says this. So… I guess there are 2 acts per level (day and night most likely…) and the day and night stages of that one particular level are not going to be included. From what I’ve gathered, all of the levels are different between the xbox 360/ps3 and Wii/ps2. They just have the same name and, I guess, the same movies. I’ve also heard that the game was designed by different people between systems like the xbox360 and ps3 were designed by sonic team with the hedgehog engine and the ps2 and wii versions were designed by someone else. Just saying what I know….or have heard/seen. I’m trying to decide whether to get the ps2 version now cuz im getting the 360 version for christmas…. check out the official website for more information (a link is on wikipedia, but I think the website is something like “sonic-unleashed.com”)
