Will the Wii and PS2 get the shorter straw with only 7 levels?

Before starting with this one, let me emphasize that this is a rumor. Again, rumor. Unconfirmed. Might not be true.

Not that we have reason to claim that Crispy Gamer is spreading false information, we simply don’t have any reason to believe they are right about what they are reporting at this time. I was actually almost not even going to post about this, and kind of let it sit on the back burner for a while, but it’s causing enough of a stir around TSSZ and TSS that I thought I’d get some of your thoughts about the whole debacle.

Unleashed will ship on four platforms: Wii, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The big difference between them: The 360 and PS3 versions (in addition to their superior graphics) will feature nine levels; the Wii and PS2 will have only a paltry seven, and much crappier graphics.

Among other things, they are claiming that we won’t see ANY playtime from Tails or Amy, something we’re not entirely sure about either

Oops, I meant at the end part about the no play time on “Tails and Amy”. Still, people can make a stupid rumor over that one, too.

    After just reading this rumor,

Notice the ending towards the Wii/PS2 versions will have much “crappier” graphics. Who could be that dense to add that too a fact? I mean, come on.

Wii can handle twelve stages. Gees, they’ve got enough room now on that type of CD that’s meant for that system; as for PS2, about the same! Gees, an easy logic explained there. Bigger formated CD, more data. Not to mention most of that memory gets saved up on the system itself.

Gees, and look at another hint “Tails and Amy” not appearing? Sonic Team doesn’t anger fans. Not like THAT. They always like to cameo, or simply add their character. Pretty sure they are still stuck to the concept that they’ll be playable for mini- games. That what was what the plan was!

On my final note. This guy doesn’t even have a feed where he got this information. Wouldn’t he/she be smart enough to state where this news was mention? Ah, how noobs don’t plain their tactics.

I know this was rumored on TSSZ and TSS. But sometimes pretty much they have people on there starting this ****. No offense to people that go on there. The reason why Crispy Gamer is possibly spreading false information.

At this point, it’s complete and total bullshark. When somebody litters supposed facts with loaded opinions, an alarm goes off in my head. I already said this in another journal post where a comment about this came off, but here’s the gist of it…

They claim that “the Wii version has crappier graphics” and “There will be no interspecies romance in this installment” are FACTS. The first one is merely an opinion and while I doubt that there will be any interspecies romance in Sonic Unleashed, (The public was outraged! INFURIATED. Because character shipping is more important than the actual game, obviously. :P ) there isn’t anything that says there WON’T be. Unless SEGA/Sonic Team disprove it. Or it doesn’t show up in the finished product. Or several disgruntled fans go over to Japan and force Sonic Team to MAKE it so that there isn’t interspecies romance and then blog about their success.

While I don’t doubt Crispy’s word when it comes to actually PLAYING the game (the facts 3 & 5 were completely consistent with what we’ve heard so far, along with some “hiccups” in the frame rate), the rest of the facts I’m VERY skeptical with.

@DWalrus: Yes, I got that it was based on a publisher-driven demo. How the heck would they know from the demo version of a game about how many levels the game would have? The game is still very much in development, and for all we know, the Wii/PS2 development team could still be working on those two levels.

    What I found interesting was that I didn’t remember seeing that comment about “the action hiccuping more than Grandpa on holiday schnapps” and the little snippet about the preview being based on a publisher-driven demo the first time I read the preview a few weeks ago. Either there’s something fishy going on or my brain hiccups more than Grandpa on holiday schnapps. It wouldn’t be the first time. o__o;;

@blu_7: Interesting point you bring up, I’d assume that longer levels would help to compensate for not having that many to go with. Choosing quantity over…lack of quantity?

@James: The minigames will probably still be there, this is talking about the actual level count.

Seeing as how I’m getting the 360 version, I won’t really be affected. But for my friends who’re getting the PS2 and Wii versions…..oh boy. I hope this is a rumor because my best friend is a die-hard fan of Tails and really wants to play those mini games as Tails.

But seriously, I REALLY hope the release the demo for this game after E3!

@Kyle: “could have been?” The game hasn’t even come out yet!

You should be phased since the 360 and PS3 owners are being treated better. Those two levels could have been more fun then the rest.

Myeh. I don’t care. If those seven levels are good, then why does it matter if there are two less? I’m not phased by this and will still buy the Wii version.

funny thing about what you said…
the development budget of Sonic 06 was MUCH bigger than that of Sonic and the Secret Rings, and yet the latter if the games actually sold a million units, unlike expensive Sonic 06.
So does Sega feel thankful for Nintendo? I guess not! XD
But I am willing to see just how the gameplay vs. graphics work in the Wii version. I think with less time to spend on graphics, hopefully the controls will be tighter than what they’ve been in the past, and hopefully that will feel good!

At this early point of development, I’m really not considering this possibility until I hear it from a Sega/Sonic Team rep from an interview or something similar to that. But in the case that there WILL only be 7 levels for the PS2/Wii versions, then It won’t bother me as much, considering that SatSR was an okay game, but only had seven levels, but had all these missions that you could do in the levels (most I gave up on, lol). But as long as they have some interesting things in the levels, bring back acts, and do some other miscellaneous things that I don’t know about, I’ll be contempt with it…

hey guys maybe we shouldnt beat on the wii even if the graphics arent that good cause by now isnt it evident that some games with awsome graphics play really bad i especially hate to beat on sonic but remember Sonic 06 everyone was like this is THE game the graphics are amazing but when people played regardless of the graphics the glitches and problems made them immediately stop.

so to u wii haters even if the graphics arent as good all i want is the great gameplay the graphics come second cause when Sonic 06 came out no one ever complimented the graphics they just beat on the gameplay itself so remember that i have a feeling sonic unleashed for the wii is gonna look great and play great cause those pictures we saw they were taken by a digital camera! i read that on the tssz news article

Hopefully this IS just a rumor. SEGA hasn’t made very good games since Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic heroes was pretty decent though. Anyways SEGA shouldn’t be “ripping off” other consoles. Nintendo has been one of Sega’s best supporters as I can see. And making “crappier graphics and less levels” Is a big Rip off probably to save money and being cheap, which is the reason Sonic has been falling. It really wouldnt matter if the graphics were like they were in Sonic Adventure:DX because graphics arnt the main problem and anyone who thinks so really needs a reality cheek. Gameplay is the real problem because if we cant play them game its not a good game, so if the Wiimotes cant handle the complex gameplay then switch it to the GC or Classic controller like they made for Brawl.

Wow that sucks big time. I hope this isn’t true because it might just push me to run out and get a 360. I have a wii and ps2 which is great but I’d like to have one capable of higher quality graphics too. Anyways, I sent you guys some fanart yesterday for the contest and you never emailed me or anything I just wanna make sure you got it cuz I worked hard on it.

If this rumor is indeed true, then its mostly due to the length of the levels, if any. I heard from another site(can’t remember which one, so don’t ask) that the shortest level is an astounding six miles.

with that being said, this rumor could have some truth to back it up.

if it is true, that is.

What?? if this is true (i don’t think so) thats really unfair, many people have only a Wii and not a 360 and PS3 (i am incluyed) well maybe they will have more features in the wii version and maybe the chao garden =) ohh well….

They should be ashamed if they’d dare cut on the number of levels for the Wii. Especially since the Wii can handle content like Brawl and Galaxy, there’s not even a reason for cutting on levels. Just redesign the levels if the Wii can’t handle them!
(I’m not mentioning the PS2 here since I believe it’s the cause of the cut on levels if this rumor proves to be true. )

    @yamiseto: Yur absolutely right

Normally the Wii would include MORE levels in some cases so why is this the opposite?

The PS2 I understand, but I guess the Wii controls are going to be so complex that they had to take some levels out.

    Well, that makes sense. lol

    ?
