Top 10 Sonic Unleashed Questions For E3

Despite the leaks constantly dripping out new Sonic Unleashed details, there are many aspects of the next-gen title that remain shrouded in mystery.  However, we’re in high hopes to see many of our questions answered during E3.  Here are just a few of the things we’d like to learn before the end of the week:

  1. What characters will be in Sonic Unleashed?  Who’s returning? Who’s out?
  2. Aside from Sonic, what characters will be playable, and in what manner will they be able to be played (Mini-games, unlockables, etc).
  3. We’ve heard multiplayer is out of the question (although new rumors seem to indicate otherwise), but will there be other Online features, such as Leaderboards or Downloadable Content?
  4. How does Weresonic actually play?  Video Footage is something we’re all dying to see.
  5. Will there be Chao Gardens?
  6. We’ve seen several retailers put out a release date for Sonic Unleashed.  Is SEGA set on a date, or is this all pure speculation?
  7. What levels are in Sonic Unleashed?  We’ve seen or heard of several stages such as China, New York, Europe, but know there are still a few we haven’t had confirmed.
  8. How long is a typical level? Are the areas/levels split into several stages like the classic Sonic games?
  9. Photos of a dragon-like character appeared a while back.  Is this the beast that was awakened at the center of the Earth?
  10. Will there be any sort of collectible items in Sonic Unleashed, such as collecting 50 Rings that help unlock bonus stages?

We’ll keep you updated here on Camp Sonic as we discover the answers to these questions, and hopefully many more during E3 2008!

  1. @WiiFP: Sometime this Week. E3 is unfortunately taking priority here (I wanted the contest finished by the 10th if you recall), but we will get to those prizes soon. I’ll probably select a few extra winners to compensate for the delay.

@Kev: I meant the 17th. If there is any before then, I don’t know about it.

  2. UltimateHyperSuperSonic July 14, 2008

We Know that the levels’ll be about 5 mins long. Other than that Good list!

  3. SpeedingHedgehog July 14, 2008

I have some questions (they might have allready been asked but here we go)

1)Will you collect the emeralds ala Genesis Sonic, of will they come and go as part of the story ala Sonic Adventure?

2)If you get to play other characters will you get to play them in Sonics stages with a character selection screen like in sonic Rush, or will they have their own stages?

3)Will Jason Griffis (I think thats how you spell it)be doing Sonics voice agian, and if so, does he sound any better?

4)How will “Adventure stages” work. Will they mess up the flow with hunts for stachues and long cut scenes?

5)Is there any other “emeralds”, like super or sol emeralds,or world rings? and if so can they let you accecess different Sonic forms, like Hyper or Darkspine Sonic to use on the final boss or the normal levels?

    That’s it for now…

  4. Final Rush July 14, 2008

Coming from this year’s E3, I’d like to have some insight as to what some of these ‘minigames’ are…

It’d be disappointing to find out that they’re just tacked on like in SatSR. Hopefully that won’t be the case.

  5. @David Leggett: Sweet extra winners. I might have a chance now.

  6. Final Rush July 14, 2008

    @SpeedingHedgehog:

    1) Sonic Adventure style.

    2) Possibly every once in a while (Hashimoto said that you “mostly” play as Sonic in the main game; as to whether or not he’s just talking about WereSonic, I don’t know).

    3) No one knows. See what you think by listening to the 1st Sonic Unleashed teaser trailer.

    4) Same style as Sonic Adventure.

    5) Highly unlikely.

    Hope that helped.

  7. @David Leggett: Hm I wonder what the actual prizes will be since you were somewhat vague about them. Hopefully some pretty awesome stuff.

And as for Unleashed, I’m hoping that it has multiplayer of somewhat. Seeing the same kind of split screen used in Sonic 2 would be nice but hopefully it wouldn’t slow down the fast pace of the frame rate and speed. I’m also hoping for chao gardens and I’m hoping that they use wifi. It’d be awesome if the new DS RPG had one too and they could interact with one another via the wii and wifi but I think that’s setting my hopes a tad bit high =p The boss battles in the Sonic Rush series to me were the best and most epic of all. I hope they have a lot of variety in them like Rush did too. I’m also eager to see who was cut from the series all togeher. Shadow was the only other good hedgehog. I think Sonic needs a rival and SA2 was decent but the rest….Blah. Just my opinion though.

  8. Chopper05 July 14, 2008

Heres one. Will the wii version of the game support wii connect24, and if so in what ways?

  9. Chopper05 July 14, 2008

And will there be connectivty between the wii version and sonic chronicals

  10. @ David Leggett: have you contacted me about the PS2 UK scans of Sonic Unleashed yet?

  11. I wanna see some Wolf Sonic gameplay. I hope E3 spills all

  12. I have a question for Sega.
Will there be downloadble stages for the PS3/360 versions? Example: Green Hill Zone and/or a Sega Themed stage from the Sonic Riders series.

  13. Link451 July 14, 2008

I’m going to request that you look at my responses in http://www.campsonic.com/2008/07/13/e3-begins-tomorrow-camp-sonic-is-on-alert#comment-3001 to reconsider asking some of those questions I mentioned.

  14. The day it comes out I’m getting the PS3 version and the Wii version.

  15. shadlol July 14, 2008

  17. well………..those are my questions

  18. These ten questions, are these the things your going to ask Sega? Or are these the questions your hoping will be answered by the end of the week. I didn’t understand.

  20. And i ended up answering my own question about whos going to be tomorrow. It’s Sony and Nintendo, together. Just in case anyone else was wondering.

@DAVIDLEGGETT WILL WE HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT SONIC UNLEASHED TOMAROW AT NINTENDOS PRESSCONFRESS

  23. sonichog45 July 14, 2008

oh and how about sonic chronicles tomarow to

  24. Hannah the Echidna July 14, 2008

@Nano: To number 3 and everyone else who keeps asking this:

To quoth Games TM: “The effect of such a plot device is that Sonic will not be able to transform into Super Sonic until at least the very climax of the game. Which is quite convenient as he’ll be required to morph into something else altogether for the rest of the game.”

In other words, NO SUPER SONIC. Or, at least, not until the end of the game.

  25. @Hannah the Echidna: That is disapointing. They were going to make it as classic as possible. Maybe after you beat the game, you can go back with Super Sonic and re-do the levels.

  26. Hannah the Echidna July 14, 2008

@WiiFP: Well, due to the strange circumstances Sonic will find himself in, going super isn’t going to be possible during the bulk of the game.

  27. sonicboy2 July 14, 2008

i want to see super werehog sonic!!!!!

  28. Lyon the Groundhog July 14, 2008

The problem with him going super is that the Chaos Emeralds are corrupted at the beginning of the game, or at least Sonic is, I’m not 100% sure on it. Either way, something is off balance with him, which would make it almost impossible to do the same things he could before.
And, It’s pretty obvious that you cannot willingly transform into Were-Sonic, as he’s a “Nights only” guy. Maybe if you had an Ocarina and the Song of time, but that isn’t the case here xD

  29. @WiiFP:
Sonic is extremely fast already. If Super Sonic is playable in all levels… you’d probably have little or no control over it.

In the later stages of Sonic 2… Super Sonic… meant getting squashed… or falling into a pit. Play Metroplis zone as Super Sonic… or even that airplane stage… and it is instant doom.

Since Sonic already moves so fast, reviewers are going to get VERY ANGRY if Super Sonic is too fast to control. Unless Super Sonic is the same speed as normal Sonic… I say… instant bottomless pits… or getting squashed. Especially at a game at this speed.

  30. I am not saying Super Sonic in all levels is a bad idea, but this game is already so fast. Reviewers will be very harsh at any “game over” as a result of the increase in speed.

  31. Link451 July 15, 2008

You know, there’s something that’s been on my mind. I read in Gamespot’s preview (http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/sonicunleashed/news.html?sid=6191119&mode=previews) that “The ring energy is a new mechanic that is set to encourage players to haul tail and collect rings as quickly as possible. The faster you collect rings the faster it charges. Once the meter is full you can trigger a powerful speed boost.”

So does this mean you can’t use the speed boost until the meter is fully charged? Could you ask about that?

  32. You know what would be cool, but would take up soooo much space that I wouldn’t even want it. A level creator! That would add a lot of replay value. As cool as that would be, I wouldn’t want it though. I bet it would be really hard to create a good level and as I said before it would take up a lot of space.

  33. Xeternalstar July 15, 2008

cmon guys wouldnt it be cool if a demo of SU was put on all the internet consoles?

  34. @wow: Yes, i know what you mean. And that is what i meant. You could go back and replay the levels as Super Sonic, but the same speed as Normal Sonic, just floating . . . And bright yellow.

  35. TailstheHedgehog July 15, 2008

I hope we see some werehog gameplay.

@WiiFP: I think playing as SuperSonic at the end of the game is sort of a classic now. I dont think it would be right actually playing a level as supersonic while experiencing the game for the first time. But being able to do them again as SuperSonic sounds wicked!

I also hope that SuperSonic has some more abilities than in his last couple of games where he just rushes at enemies realy fast. The thing in Sonic Heroes was awesome where you press X and he zips around blowing rockets and stuff out of the air.

  36. TailstheHedgehog July 15, 2008

    @Xeternalstar: YYYEESSS!

  37. @Hannah the Echidna:

I actually read somewhere that Sonic keeps his same personality throughout his transformation, but I can’t remember where, nor can I remember if it was sourced. But that’s definitely my biggest question too; it would make a huge difference to the mood of the game.

  38. There is one@WiiFP:
thing that I am concerned about. If Super Sonic is playable in every level, should he STILL be able to fall in those pits? I mean… I know this is how it has been in the past… but I think there is something really wrong with Super Sonic falling in bottomless pits.

Maybe a chaos control could teleport you back to the last checkpoint… but Super Sonic can fly.

  39. right now its 15th july 2008 and its tuesday 10:25 am on my countrie and……i didnt heard anything about sonic unleashed.

  40. UmbreonTheDark July 15, 2008

Interesting. Today is another day, and that means more info today, yay :D which conference is today?

If the real information for the game doesn’t come out till thurs. I really look forward to it. So……I only wonder about the night stages, so as long as we hear about that, I’ll be happy, but more info wouldn’t hurt hahah.

  41. @UmbreonTheDark: Ya, the new conference is Sony and Nintendo. Together. Then day one starts at 6 o’clock.

  42. I JUST SAW SONIC UNLEASHED ON E3!!! It was in the introduction. It was going through a list of games, Like Mario popped up, the guy from Fallout 3, But there was a 2d shot of Sonic running. Idk if that means it’ll be in there, or not, but i saw it.

  43. Just a heads up: Nintendo will be taking the stage in less than 2 hours from now, so if you’re a Wii guy, you might wanna tune in soon (G4TV or Gamespot’s E3 Live). Again, I don’t expect to hear ANYTHING from Sega until Thursday, but it can’t hurt to see what else is being developed for the Wii.

  44. @David Leggett: Haha, you could call me a wii guy. Hense my name . . . I saw Sonic Unleashed on the commercial for E3, could this mean anything Dave?

  45. I come here ASAP everyday, so I don’t need an e-mail update. Don’t e-mail me, this is my mom’s.

They had better bring Fang back. He was one of the vitalist characters in the series. At least tune another character in to add to the continuity of games, like Mario, Chris, or Sally.

I better not see any flamers on those characters.

  46. Interesting Ad placement…

  47. i’m not sure but today feels lucky like i can sense new sonic unleashed info hiding somewhere i’ll keep my eyes peeled but everyone make sure to keep your eyes on SEGA’s FTP server

  48. Nintendo Spotlight Starting now.

  49. @EnzeruAnimeFan: You’ll have to unsubscribe via the bottom of those emails you’re being sent. Since you registered for subscriptions, you actually have to unsubscribe yourself ;) It’s real simple though!

    @Mynameisonic: Huh?

@WiiFP: Yup, watching it right now =) Doubt anything for Sonic Unleashed will be in it.
