Update: You can now watch the full 25 minute demonstration of Sonic Unleashed.

Alright, it’s over now, but hopefully you caught wind of it and were able to watch a bit. If not no worries, as we’ll likely have a video for download really soon.

Lot’s of new things revealed, so if you’d just like a summary of what was shown, have at it!

  • Sonic the Werehog’s Controls were unveiled:
    Sonic the Werehogs Controls
  • Hold down a bumper to make Sonic the Werehog get down on all fours and run.
  • There are charge attacks if you hold attack down (like rapid punching it seems).
  • They totally said Dr Robotnik instead of Eggman.  Will it stick?  We can only hope.
  • Shadow will be in Sonic Unleashed.
  • Still focusing almost entirely on Sonic though.
  • Ring’s replenish Vitality, which functions like a Health bar.
  • The purple orbs discussed in our Werehog impressions seem to increase your shield, which is used up when Sonic puts up his fists to block attacks.
  • There will be an online component in Sonic Unleashed.
  • If you miss a jump as the Werehog, you can stretch out your arms to grab the ledge.  Jumps are much more forgiving this way while in this form.
  • You are really strong.  You actually just LIFT the doors rather than walking through them sometimes.
  • Each area will have a daytime and nighttime component to it.
  • There will be plenty to explore, and lots of hidden items.
  • The music will be “energetic” and “enthusiastic” during the day, while “twilightish” during the night.
  • The Controls feel very good (they actually got to play part of the Mykonos, Greece nighttime segment.
  • They’re still looking into the 50 rings for a bonus stage element.
  • Played on the 360.
  • Werehog cannot swim.

I’m impressed with what I saw.  Hopefully they make this available for download real soon. Post updated with link to video.

If you’ve missed a bit, most, some, or all of it, Gamespot will probably upload the video of it soon after, so don’t worry if you missed it.

Either way, I hope that all of you are liking what you’re seeing!

There is also a live demo of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for the Nintendo DS and the unrelated to Sonic game, Skate It, which is the Wii version of the XBOX 360/PS3 game Skate…which is a skateboarding game obviously.

(apologies for abuse of caps lock. It’s been one of those weeks…)

The only thing good about Wolf-Sonic in my opinion, is how great it will be playing it with wiimote + nunchuck xD.

    I guess I’ll wait for Chronicles now…

But having looked at the Werehog gameplay, it looks REALLY impressive to me.

TSSZ says Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow are confirmed and that there IS an online component, as well as other stuff.

Online component? Well, if it isn’t multiplayer, it’s either leader boards and/or…little blue things we all know or love. Probably leaderboards.

They say there are still issues with frame rate though. That’s the only concern…

@Darkspines: I’ve played a bit of Psychonauts! I wish I could’ve been able to play more, it was an AWESOME game.

…why do you bring it up? Does it…remind you of something?

So, his werehog form is officially Sonic the Werehog? Heh, looks like the nickname stuck.

Speaking of names, before people get all uppity, Dr. Robotnik IS ACTUALLY his actual name. (His family name, remember SA2?) Treating it as such more often instead of always calling him Eggman would be awesome.

But no matter what, he is STILL the Eggman. Kookoo kajoob.

“They’re still looking into the 50 rings for a bonus stage element.”

    \o/

    “Werehog cannot swim.”

    Some things never change. :P

    Poor Sonic… even as a were-hog, he STILL can’t swim. Glub glub…

    Very impressive…

Sonic Chronicles looks good too btw, but they obviously had low strength levels as the enemies were killing the guy playing the game.

Now, I need to wait for the MK vs DC info…

“That’s actually a very good question! We’re gonna look into that later.”

At least, i think they said that.

@Darkspines: If you think that’s cool, you should get the original~

    …It’s one of those cult classic games, like Psychonauts, so you should be able to get it for a cheaper price…maybe even in the bargain bin at the local game store. o__o;;

Man, everything just seems to be going well, frame rate withstanding…

God, I freaking miss bonus stages. I would be THRILLED to hear of their return.

I know for a fact it won’t be happening in this game, but I really miss the idea of being able to collect the emeralds on your own and being able to acheive Super Sonic without waiting til the end of the game.

However, that probably isn’t ever going to happen, as now that the Sonic games have become plot-oriented, the emeralds will likely remain the key plot devices… and we’ll always end up with the epic Super Sonic finish.

@CekOne: Flipping amazing. I really am thinking this will be the game that redeems Sonic. Even if the Werehog has lots of combat, which I was worried about would make its gameplay suck, it actually might be rather fun after seeing that video. Just because it’s not superfast platforming doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Plus, there was platforming and exploration there too.

Sonic’s gameplay looks awesome as well. I’m definitely looking forward to this game now more than ever.

Hey have you guys noticed that SEGA forgot to spell Cancel they spelled it Cancell (see this at 4:24). Also the main menu looks weird it reminded me of DBZ. So does the main menu remind me of DBZ (see this at 4:16).

It took an hour to read all the stuff.
The gameplay looks really fast, and it seems that sonic can actually keep still.(so not on rails)
Wherehog looks fun,but I can’t shake of the feeling that it is going to be slightly repitive at times. But still fun.
