Go watch now:
http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=event_nav;live
Update: You can now watch the full 25 minute demonstration of Sonic Unleashed.
Alright, it’s over now, but hopefully you caught wind of it and were able to watch a bit. If not no worries, as we’ll likely have a video for download really soon.
Lot’s of new things revealed, so if you’d just like a summary of what was shown, have at it!
- Sonic the Werehog’s Controls were unveiled:

- Hold down a bumper to make Sonic the Werehog get down on all fours and run.
- There are charge attacks if you hold attack down (like rapid punching it seems).
- They totally said Dr Robotnik instead of Eggman. Will it stick? We can only hope.
- Shadow will be in Sonic Unleashed.
- Still focusing almost entirely on Sonic though.
- Ring’s replenish Vitality, which functions like a Health bar.
- The purple orbs discussed in our Werehog impressions seem to increase your shield, which is used up when Sonic puts up his fists to block attacks.
- There will be an online component in Sonic Unleashed.
- If you miss a jump as the Werehog, you can stretch out your arms to grab the ledge. Jumps are much more forgiving this way while in this form.
- You are really strong. You actually just LIFT the doors rather than walking through them sometimes.
- Each area will have a daytime and nighttime component to it.
- There will be plenty to explore, and lots of hidden items.
- The music will be “energetic” and “enthusiastic” during the day, while “twilightish” during the night.
- The Controls feel very good (they actually got to play part of the Mykonos, Greece nighttime segment.
- They’re still looking into the 50 rings for a bonus stage element.
- Played on the 360.
- Werehog cannot swim.
I’m impressed with what I saw. Hopefully they make this available for download real soon. Post updated with link to video.

If you’ve missed a bit, most, some, or all of it, Gamespot will probably upload the video of it soon after, so don’t worry if you missed it.
Either way, I hope that all of you are liking what you’re seeing!
There is also a live demo of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for the Nintendo DS and the unrelated to Sonic game, Skate It, which is the Wii version of the XBOX 360/PS3 game Skate…which is a skateboarding game obviously.
(apologies for abuse of caps lock. It’s been one of those weeks…)
The only thing good about Wolf-Sonic in my opinion, is how great it will be playing it with wiimote + nunchuck xD.
I guess I’ll wait for Chronicles now…
But having looked at the Werehog gameplay, it looks REALLY impressive to me.
More werehog powers sweet.
Sweet. in other news, have any of you played psychonauts or the neverhoOd?
TSSZ says Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow are confirmed and that there IS an online component, as well as other stuff.
Online component? Well, if it isn’t multiplayer, it’s either leader boards and/or…little blue things we all know or love. Probably leaderboards.
They say there are still issues with frame rate though. That’s the only concern…
@Darkspines: I’ve played a bit of Psychonauts! I wish I could’ve been able to play more, it was an AWESOME game.
…why do you bring it up? Does it…remind you of something?
So, his werehog form is officially Sonic the Werehog? Heh, looks like the nickname stuck.
Speaking of names, before people get all uppity, Dr. Robotnik IS ACTUALLY his actual name. (His family name, remember SA2?) Treating it as such more often instead of always calling him Eggman would be awesome.
But no matter what, he is STILL the Eggman. Kookoo kajoob.
“They’re still looking into the 50 rings for a bonus stage element.”
\o/
“Werehog cannot swim.”
Some things never change.
Poor Sonic… even as a were-hog, he STILL can’t swim. Glub glub…
Very impressive…
Sonic Chronicles looks good too btw, but they obviously had low strength levels as the enemies were killing the guy playing the game.
Now, I need to wait for the MK vs DC info…
SHAAAAAAAADOWWWWWWW!!!!!! WHOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!
No, they’re just cool games.
I believe they also said the ratio of gameplay between Sonic and Weresonic will be 50/50.
@iNAUDiBLE, they are fun, and raz is funny. try out the neverhoOd, im sure u can download it.
AAAAAAAAAah! i type so slow!
So you didn’t notice this bit?
“Will there be remakes of old Sonic levels?”
“That’s actually a very good question! We’re gonna look into that later.”
At least, i think they said that.
[...] case you missed the live Sonic Unleashed footage we covered earlier, Shadow has now been a confirmed character for Sonic Unleashed. During a live [...]
@Darkspines: Yeah, it is a great game. I have heard of the Neverhood.
Have you heard of Beyond Good and Evil? It’s a great game…I think there MIGHT be information about it at E3…
@TimmiT: Yes, people have noticed, and it would be SWEET.
Every new thing I see about this game, it just gets better and better.
Hey if anyone wants to check out a new sonic unleashed trailer, click here!http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36549.html
Information about the sequel, I mean. And there is, Gamespot has the trailer for BGE2.
@MorbidLilim: Well, so long as there’s a balance between the two, everything will be well…
I’ll check that game out, okay
@supersonic_64: Oh sorry thats not new but it just looked different…
Beyond good and evil 2 looks great!
WOO-HOO! SHADOW! AWESOME!
Man, I missed the live coverage, but I don’t mind now! I’ll just wait and see what happens!
@TimmiT: I did. Nothing new… as they said, they’ll talk about it later.
That’s kind of a fancy way of saying, Maybe, Maybe not.
Holy Giraffacakes, he can run on all fours? :O
Whoohoo!
@iNAUDiBLE:
He should at least be able to doggy-paddle. XD
My god, so many updates… I can’t keep up with them! I swear, when I come on tomorrow morning, there will be around 10 more updates. It’s not a bad thing though… ;]
@Darkspines: If you think that’s cool, you should get the original~
…It’s one of those cult classic games, like Psychonauts, so you should be able to get it for a cheaper price…maybe even in the bargain bin at the local game store. o__o;;
Man, everything just seems to be going well, frame rate withstanding…
@Chaos Blast: Ah, man, why didn’t anybody else think of that? …speaking of which, Tails can doggy paddle. XD
Hey, the more info, the merrier~
God, I freaking miss bonus stages. I would be THRILLED to hear of their return.
I know for a fact it won’t be happening in this game, but I really miss the idea of being able to collect the emeralds on your own and being able to acheive Super Sonic without waiting til the end of the game.
However, that probably isn’t ever going to happen, as now that the Sonic games have become plot-oriented, the emeralds will likely remain the key plot devices… and we’ll always end up with the epic Super Sonic finish.
i saw psychonauts fo $6.00, u.s. dollars
I thought there would be an overworld to stop, rest, and talk to people, like sonic adventure DX, and Sonic 2006? is that true? or did i imagine it?
wow im really impressed david i mean its not even thursday yet we have all this new info!! im so excited the mykonos level looks so smooth and the guy playing it seems like a begginer before i was worried about the control but it looks tight and sharp!
if you missed the demo LIVE (like me) now gamespot have upload a video of the entire demo that was LIVE hours ago, check it out!!:
http://www.gamespot.com/video/0/6194260/videoplayerpop?rgroup=e32008_live
I missed the live gameplay, dang it, oh well.
Watched and loved every minite of it.
Im one happy dude from all this new info!
Thanks Camp Sonic!! You never let me down!
how would be controls on Ps2

:O
@CekOne: Flipping amazing. I really am thinking this will be the game that redeems Sonic. Even if the Werehog has lots of combat, which I was worried about would make its gameplay suck, it actually might be rather fun after seeing that video. Just because it’s not superfast platforming doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Plus, there was platforming and exploration there too.
Sonic’s gameplay looks awesome as well. I’m definitely looking forward to this game now more than ever.
@CekOne:
Thanks CekOne I thought I would never see it.
Hey have you guys noticed that SEGA forgot to spell Cancel they spelled it Cancell (see this at 4:24). Also the main menu looks weird it reminded me of DBZ. So does the main menu remind me of DBZ (see this at 4:16).
This game’s looking sweet especially with the appearence of shadow, the story idea the graphics and everything but i hope the wii version won’t be inferior to the 360 one and basically have the same story
@retsetemag:
Thanks man!
This is gonna be awsome! I want that game now!
[...] in case you missed the actual live footage of Sonic Unleashed being played by Assistant Product Marketing Manager at SoA, Ken Balough and Executive Producer at [...]
I hope the wii version is good….
or else ill have to buy 360…. WAH!
Phew…
It is really lame that I was away last days…
It took an hour to read all the stuff.
The gameplay looks really fast, and it seems that sonic can actually keep still.(so not on rails)
Wherehog looks fun,but I can’t shake of the feeling that it is going to be slightly repitive at times. But still fun.
@TheWaffleFactory: yes there is an overworld they said but it is optional
the main menu of the game is kind of ugly is like the one of DBZ i didn’t liked it then and i dont like it now
i hope the wii gameplay and graphics are good becuose if their not im gonna have to leave nintendo and buy a 360
@RockerDuDe: Well, remember that this is an Alpha build, and probably all set to change. I would take the menu with a grain of salt as you see it right now.
