In case you missed the live Sonic Unleashed footage we covered earlier, Shadow has now been a confirmed character for Sonic Unleashed. During a live hands-on demonstration, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow we’re all confirmed to be in the game, although no mention of how they would be implemented was discussed.
I’m a bit worried about this choice, but I’m sure Shadow fans everywhere are rejoicing. So long as he doesn’t have guns in this installment… and doesn’t act all *gangsta* or any of that crap, I’d say there’s still a chance he’ll make a good addition to the game.
@talk about low budget flights: You mean Shadow works for the government? …even with the reboot, I assume that Shadow still works for GUN…if Sonic Chronicles can have it, then it’s probably something that SEGA/Sonic Team adknowledges.
@talk about low budget flights: You have a point, they CAN breathe in space and they CAN survive the long falls. Remember, Sonic hanging onto the wing of Eggman’s ship and going all the way out into space to the Death Egg…and Tails going out to find Sonic in the Tornado and catching him as he falls? That was all the way back in Sonic 2! Shadow and Black Doom floating by the Space Colony ARK in some cutscenes in Shadow’s game? Werehog being blown out of the airlock and falling to the broken Earth below in Sonic Unleashed cutscenes? Check the trailer when it becomes four way split screened, it’s all there.
…some skeletal structure they’ve got, eh?
Either way, enough about Shadow, I’ll doubt he’ll have the guns and the emo…he’s past that, remember? How about Tails and Knuckles? What role will THEY play? Will Knuckles help Sonic with purifiying the Emeralds in the shrines? Will Tails have some kind of minigame like Sky Chase?

Wow, these character fights have gotten a lot more intense, lol… I remember me and my friend fighting over who was better (Sonic or Shadow) about when Sonic Adventure 2 came out for Dreamcast, and it go something like:
him: “Sonic is so much better, he can run so much faster than shadow because he doesn’t need jet shoes to run that fast!”
me: “Shadow can run that fast, but he uses the jet shoes to save energy instead of using up all his energy to run as fast as possible.”
Good thing for 2 player battle mode XD
@dog@bird.net (Near the start of the posts…): I’ve never really liked Sonic from the start… I think my first sonic games where Sonic Triple Trouble for Game Gear (Played as Tails), and Sonic R for PC (Played as Metal Sonic mostly)… But I’m just never a fan of the main character of games usually. I don’t like Sonic, Mario, Master Chief, Falcon (Power Stone), etc…

@Lyon the Groundhog: You make a good point. It’s good for Sonic to have a little competition. I loved Knuckles when he was introduced, even way back in the day when all three characters ran at the same speed. That’s why I personally REALLY liked Jet from Sonic Riders (not the greatest game, but it was certainly fun). His personality was a wonderful clash with Sonic’s and I thought the electricity and resulting friendship between the two was very inspiring.
As for your comment about modernizing… I’m certain you are correct… however, my personal belief is that they never needed any modernization in the first place, and I resent the fact that the market demanded otherwise. Sort of me just being a pouting purist, complaining about the fact that they added color to black and white films (that was purely an example, lol). Do I hate Shadow as a character? Not completely. I enjoy playing as him from time to time, or watching his actions in cutscenes. He is by no means a terribly designed or developed character. I hate him for what he represents. The modernization of a classic that I loved with all my heart.
That’s why I have no real complaints about his confirmed appearance in the game, but would still have preferred it otherwise.

Shadow was made to be sonic rival in SA2(that game ruled by the way). Know hes some low life with a gun. I bet the scene with weresonic and shadow will be like this: “I am the ultimante life form with a tranqualizer fear me werehog” shouts shadow(If your so ultimant you don’t need the tranq).Weresonic jumps at him. Shadow shoots the tranqulizer. Hits weresonic between the eyes. Weresonic gose down.”Ha and you call yourself my fa..Agggggghhh!” Weresonic jumps and kill shadow in bloodlust. his claws in shadows disimbodied head.
Yes a gory thought but you get the point. Even with his petty guns shadow is going to get killed because sega made him so full of himself that common sense dosn’t even ocur to my once favorite sonic character. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate shadow, but I wont like that tard again till sega makes him more normal and not so well what he turned into in shadow the hedgehog. Hes A bipolar reck “good…bad no good… mabye bad… ah the hell withit die!” said shadow “what have I done nooooo!” my point being sega ruined him.

@Mike: It just means the story isn’t necessarily a continuation of any other story and bear no chronological relation. The characters and their established background information will remain the same (ie. Knuckles is still the guardian of the Master Emerald).
There’s sorta a line you have to draw when it came to the new characters. I liked Shadow, not because of his Emo-tastical ‘tude or his “angry at the world” appearance, but because he gave Sonic a rival.
Something to go against, an equal of the matter. Yes, I’ve been playing Sonic games since the Genesis, I have the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sound test codes memorized to heart, I’ve played every single Sonic game, regardless of reviews or rants.
If you tried to deny me being a hardcore Sonic fan, I’d have Big sit on you. The point is, old-school players can like Shadow for whatever reason, just like they can hate him. The only down-fall to Shadow is that he DID try to appease to the public; the guns, the bad-*** attitude. He was the answer to modernizing Sonic games.
Should we hate him for that? No.
Now, while I love Shadow, I believe Rogue has NO place in the game what-so-ever, She’s just kinda rollin’ with Shadow for the free ride. Oh right, and 13 yr old boys love to stare at her Cleavage xD

In Sonic X, Sonic and Shadow fall from space so many times… there must’ve been atleast 5 episodes where Super Sonic and Super Shadow lost their “Super” in space. There was even an episode in which Super Sonic lost his Super, burned on the atmosphere, and crash landed on a planet (all of that as regular Sonic.)
The characters can breathe in space, and atmosphere burning doesn’t hurt them.
Wait….if this game has no connection to past Sonic games…then is Shadows past still the same? Did the events in SA2 never happen? Is he still the “ultimate” lifeform or is he now just a regular hedgehog? What’s his story this time?
As long as he’s not playable which I assume he’s not then I’m fine with him being in the story.
@talk about low budget flights: I read what David said about flame wars, and I made careful consideration to state my opinions in a non-antagonistic way. If other people like the character, then more power to them. Like I said, let his fans eat him up like chocolate cake. But I have my reasons for hating him, and I have no reason not to let them be known.
Hell, even if he is a fully playable character, I’d probably play the game as him just to get the full experience. As I said before, I dislike him purely on principle. It won’t stop me from enjoying the game, or thinking highly of it.
As for the big black ‘hog himself… well… if I ever see a gigantic talking hedgehog wearing gloves, I’ll be sure to appropriately cower in fear and retract my statements (unless a certain blue blur spins in to save me!) lol.

you guys know that Shadow never died right? in the game Shadow the Hedgehog in the final boss battle Dr. Robotnik announced that he had a Robot go and save him

ChaoticFox, you are only starting arguments. The admin does not prefer Shadow, but he does not get offensive in such a way to directly try and offend fans of Shadow.
If you do not like Shadow, DON’T PLAY AS HIM. Lets be honest, in Sonic Heroes… almost EVERY CHARACTER has Sonic’s abilities. In Sonic Advance games, Amy’s only difference to Sonic is the inability to spinball, and that was added in Sonic Advance 3.
