In case you missed the live Sonic Unleashed footage we covered earlier, Shadow has now been a confirmed character for Sonic Unleashed. During a live hands-on demonstration, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow we’re all confirmed to be in the game, although no mention of how they would be implemented was discussed.
I’m a bit worried about this choice, but I’m sure Shadow fans everywhere are rejoicing. So long as he doesn’t have guns in this installment… and doesn’t act all *gangsta* or any of that crap, I’d say there’s still a chance he’ll make a good addition to the game.

Admittedly, I don’t think that it was a good idea to make Big playable, (even though he IS my favorite character), but having him in cameo roles fits it much better. Most every character has their place in the franchise, if they can find a way to make it work. They appear to be getting the idea…
We need to build a detector to find more reasonable Sonic fans. For whatever reason, this site’s collective IQ is higher than most other fan forums I’ve been to. XD

Well, whether you agree with it or not, the Werehog is in the new game. I would like to say that, though I am a big fan of Were-Sonic, I believe he should be a one-hit wonder and be in only one game, like Darkspines Sonic.
i like to see all those characters in the game, but id rather playing as knuckles instead of weresonic, i mean wtf? WERESONIC? the rest of the game seems cool, and shadow could be playable in the first episode alongside sonic, but NO werehogs plz

I agree with Crazee. I believe that just about every character has their place (even the ones I hate), and the real problem is trying to cram all of them into every single game - a problem compounded by trying to make them all playable as well.
It has been a tradition for the core Sonic games to introduce a new character with each installment, and I think the real solution probably lies not in aboloshing this tradition, but by putting each character in their appropriate place. Even if that place is only within the context of a single game.
Some characters work well as background characters, support characters, storyline characters, and some work better as playable characters. Some characters, however loveable, probably deserve to be left behind and in their proper place (Big, for example. A wonderful character with no real place outside of SA)
Despite my distaste for characters like Shadow, I feel he was well-placed as both a playable and storyline character in SA2. Honestly, I would have preferred that his death be the conclusive end of it, but as a popular character it was inevitable that he lived on. The events of Shadow the Hedgehog may or may not have been an example of poor placement and abuse of that popularity, but I believe that he fufilled his role quite nicely in Sonic 06.
All of this is merely to reiterate what Crazee has said. Whether we like certain characters or not (Hell, I don’t even like Amy, but I recognize her importance and her rightful place in the franchise), they all have a special place within the Sonic Universe that ought to be respected. I think Sonic Team has the right idea with this one, and it seems to me that every character will be fulfilling their individual roles rather nicely.

I think we need to, as Sonic fans, look beyond our own tastes and realize that this is a product for a wide audience. Sega has taken a risky step in the sense that Secret Rings was criticized for having ONLY Sonic by many, while other games are criticized for not being about Sonic. Obviously, they’re looking for a compromise. Other characters have no DEFINED roles, other than reports(rumors?) that Tails might have a minigame. Every established report has emphatically said it’s 99% Sonic/Werehog. Let’s be reasonable here. I hated Big’s adventure in SA and I’m hesitant playing as him in Heroes(even if he’s hilarious), but Big was hilarious as a background element and hidden factor in SA2 and Secret Rings.
What I’m saying is…put in the appropriate role, NO character is bad. Only the characterization. And the usage of the character.

To be honest, is there anything wrong with any of the characters that good character development and appropriate usage wouldn’t fix? If Shadow is working for G.U.N, then it would make sense that they would be involved. Even if they’re not (this story is not connected to the other games, remember?), this game runs on a “clean slate” with character development. Maybe you’ll like this incarnation of Shadow a little bit more now that he’s not “hog”-ing the spotlight. I think more people liked Shadow in SA2 than people who didn’t, and the “angst” seems to be from Team Dark having the most important storyline in Heroes, and then Shadow getting his OWN game…instead of a new Sonic. Then, when we get a new Sonic game…he’s running around with a human girl while Shadow is arguably the least confused of the three hedgehogs(which sounds odd to say”.
Point is, if Shadow is a part of the storyline like any other character than he should be seen as a “side character”. That means, he’s either an enemy or an ally. If he’s an ally, is that so bad? The story is about Sonic…it’s always possible Shadow could get involved because of his own experiance with feeling out of control. Shadow seems all angsty and lonerish, but as of ShtH and Sonic ‘06…he’s portrayed as an ally of Sonic’s. So yeah, being a popular character…and a controversial one…they probably figure him a minor role is best for everyone.
This is all speculation, though. Maybe he’s ONLY in the game in minigames like in Secret Rings. He has NOT been confirmed as playable or even as part of the storyline. Give peace a chance! Oh sorry, wrong slogan. Give it time!

@Weresonic: Oh brother! A little brash if you ask me… If you listened closely to the Were-Sonic gameplay in the gamespot e3 coverage, You could hear that Sonic’s voice didn’t change much at all. That and the fact the Official Nintendo Magazine said that the Werehog isn’t dark/evil, I beilieve the Were-Sonic/Shadow scene would go a little more like this:
Shadow: So, this is the monster that’s been terrorizing cities. I make soure of your demise, beast!
Were-Sonic: N-no, wait! It’s me, Sonic! SONIC!
(cue Shadow boss fight)
Then after the fight they clear things up and Shadow becomes Were-Sonic’s ally or something.

Shadow was made to be sonic rival in SA2(that game ruled by the way). Know hes some low life with a gun. I bet the scene with weresonic and shadow will be like this: “I am the ultimante life form with a tranqualizer fear me werehog” shouts shadow(If your so ultimant you don’t need the tranq).Weresonic jumps at him. Shadow shoots the tranqulizer. Hits weresonic between the eyes. Yes a gory thought but you get the point. Even with his petty guns shadow is going to get killed because sega made him so full of himself that common sense dosn’t even ocur to my once favorite sonic character. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate shadow, but I wont like that tard again till sega makes him more normal and not so well what he turned into in shadow the hedgehog. I don’t like Shadow either, but I already had a huge feeling he’s going to be in it so it doesn’t suprise me that he’s confirmed. As long as he doesn’t take up half of Sonic spotlight then I’m okay with him in it.

I don’t care how much it sold to be quite frank. I consider it a classic cause people who played the game even said that Sonic CD is one of the best Sonic games in the series and people think the classics is one of the best games in the series, so yeah I think Amy has been in one of the classics.
