Big thanks to Das Gamer for sharing this. During their sit-down with SEGA, one of the team members got into a Sonic the Werehog costume and posed for a few shots.
The next-gen graphics look good. Sega even threw in a proprietary engine they have been working on since 2005 optimized for rendering textures at high speed. But the overall feel of the game looked a little flat despite all the speed. As a 2-D sidescroller you could at least appreciate the full size of the levels as you navigated them. There didn’t seem to be any real evolution in the game that have kept Mario fresh through the decades. In the scenes that I saw the landscape shoots past at a pace that makes the key to gameplay seem more like muscle memory than reflexes. Hats off to the Sega associate producer who put on the furry suit for a few shots. It was hot as hell in that booth.
And hats off to you Das Gamer. I know what I’ll dress up as to scare the neighborhood children come Halloween!
Note: a bigger photo can be found over at Das Gamer. Also, we’ll likely have a nice glance at the gameplay ourselves later tonight, so be sure to check back with us later!

Haha! That is so cool! I wonder if he tried to eat somebody!
That suit is half the most awesome thing and half the most interesting Sonic suit I’ve seen ever.
Hm, I’m not sure that I agree with them on that. There IS a lot of depth to behold.
Wait…they said that they’ve been working on the Hedgehog Engine for…three years? Ack, either they started late in 2005, or they started early and they’ve been working at it for four years.
FOUR YEARS~
You can trade chaos on Sonic Chronicles:The Dark Brotherhood.(DS)
Hehe. I like the suit. The best ever. The others are sooo ugly.
P.S.Were Sonic is COOL!
OMG, I want to be THAT for Halloween! Maybe get a tape recorder and record that roar in the first teaser trailer…I’d be good to go!
Wow. Very cool design. I bet it must have been really really hard for Sega creating that suit, and I respect that. Plus, I feel sorry for the person wearing it, because they often feel boiling inside a suit look that.
o and maybe the online part is chao trading
lol thx
@David Leggett: Touche!
@gabeking54: Yes, we know you want to know about chao gardens. We’ll be sure to post it if we find out about those.
@ gabeking54, I hope the game has chao garden too. maybe it will be for wiiware, or a channel like mario kart wii
chao garden plz
I think someone should wear the werehog suit on the game’s release
@ChaoticFox: But… Sega has also said that this game is ALL about Sonic, and HIS adventure around the world. That’s probably a good way of saying that while other characters will make appearances, they’ll be subtle, and less important this time round.
@Lamb84: I agree. Normally Sega has a habit of releasing character renders wayyyy before the game’s actual release. I’m surprised to have only seen Sonic’s (and the few small Were-Sonic images we’ve managed to scrape up)
er…………….
right *sweatdrop*
By the way, we’ve now seen alot of pictures of Sonic and Were-Sonic, but what about the other charecters? It would be interesting to see the designs of the humans, and to see the designs of Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Shadow ( if any of their designs changed in any way, even though I highly doubt they did).
>< There couldn’t be anything more awesome, could there?
@Lamb84: Probably because Were-Sonic actually IS a big burly character, and therefore a big burly suit doesn’t skew his proportions as much ^^;
It actually looks more like him, unlike past sonic suits.
*lol*
Could there be anything more funny and entertaining?
