E3 was really busy for those of us interested in Sonic Unleashed, which by a count of hands, I see is nearly everyone here. With all the action going on in our own community, you may have missed some interesting posts from around the greater Sonic Community. Here’s some of the links we found to be interesting over the past week!
- Summer of Sonic: Play Sonic Chronicles before it’s released! – It’s times like these that I really wish I could afford overseas airfare. Participate over at Summer of Sonic, and you could play Sonic Chronicles nearly 2 months before it’s release!
- What AAUK’s been up to – Speaking of Summer of Sonic, check out what AAUK has been up to recently!
- Sonic Chronicles Website Updated – And in regards to Sonic Chronicles, you may have not noticed that the official site has been updated. Find all 60 rings, and you’ll unlock 2 awesome wallpapers (a few of them are a bit tricky)
- Lots of new Sonic Chronicles Screenshots over at TSSZ – And we mean LOTS.
- Plus a Recap of the Playtest demonstrated at E3 - A pretty good read if you’re considering purchasing it later on.
- Where in the World is Jun Senoue – According to TSS, he may already be working on things for the next Sonic game!
- 2007 Sonic Movie Pitch Was in Fact Real – The Sonic Stadium has details. Sounds like an end to all the Sonic Move drama.
- Samba De Amigo to include Classic Sega Characters – Such as… you guessed it – Sonic.
- Riptens’ Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “I believe that Sonic Unleashed has the potential to be one of the best Sonic games in a very long time, stretchy Werehog arms and all. A few months ago Nintendo took Mario into outer space, and frankly I see this as SEGA’s attempt to experiment with the Sonic brand in a similar way.” – It’s a great read folks!
- Gamespot’s Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “When night falls, you’ll encounter a pretty different spin on the classic gameplay, but from what we were able to see in a demonstration today, fans of Sonic Adventure should be able to look forward to another capable platformer.“
- 1UP Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “Sonic Unleashed certainly looks to draw in several distinct gameplay elements, but unless the daytime segments dominate the experience, we may be looking at yet another uneven 3D Sonic experience.“.
- Kotaku’s Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “When we said we hated the stupid tacked on 3D gimmicky elements of the 3D Sonic games, we didn’t mean we hated them only 50% of the time. 50% of crap and marshmallows is still 50% crap.“.
- Kombo’s Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “The question that remains is this: Will Sonic Team put together a polished game that reinvigorates the brand, or will they yet again let Sega shove an unfinished product out the door to make that November release date?“.
- SEGA E3 Mass Breakdown – A great rundown of what SEGA had to show off this year at E3.
- Triple E3 Roundup – Sonic City Blognik picks up where the SEGA Europe blog leaves off with a roundup of what Sega had to show at E3.

Wait, I don’t get it. So its a Satam movie or a Sega movie. Or is SEGA making the Satam movie?
2nd yet…
first comment! awesome thx!!
or not
Nice news roundup!
@supersonicdude211: That happens to everybody if you didnt notice. Haha. Anyway, there is ong to be a Sonic Movie, or did i read that really wrong?
Woops, i meant ” Anyway, there is going to be a Sonic Movie . . . “
did any one find about the wii pics yet ?????????
in sonic chronicles site, when you go whit sonic to the “dark” sector, the music, is like “sonic 3d blast’s” Panic Pupet for PC.
chek that…
i hope wii version of su is a little like 360/Ps3
If its a Satam movie that means………………. no Amy, Knuckles, or any of the other game characters(except Sonic and Tails). Awww, and Amy’s my favorite character.
since it doent run oon hedgehhog engine
SatAM!?
I like the new site for Chronicles. And YAY choas in Chronicles. Trade chaos with your friends. FUN!
During the day, there will be times where gamers will need utilize “precision platforming skills and timing”
That’s really all we ask for.

Sonic & The Black Knight. Exclusive to wii. Okay Sega I’m sorry I think I’m done with Sonic. Thats it.
It’s interesting that 1UP and Kotaku were critical about Sonic Unleashed, and in their user comments everyone is bashing it.
On the other hand, Gamespot had fairly good impressions and there the overall tone of comments seems to be more positive.
Funny how one opinion has so big effect on people.
Sorry, my english is not fluent, but I hope you got the point
@enzo_gt:
Oh My GOD! What is it, an rpg or something?!
That can’t be real, magazines never get exclusives. If it’s real, there would be information online before a magizine story. It’s a clever fake, I’d be willing to guess. Sega’s already releasing two Sonic games, one with two different version…
Reading the comments though…I’m kind of surprised everyone’s already calling Unleashed crappy.
@enzo_gt: I’m really worried now. I wonder what in the world the game could be about. A sequal to SATSR? Why would Sonic need a sword? But then again, whenever Sonic is on Nintendo exclusively the game’s never that bad. SATSR wasn’t bad and the Sonic Rush series was good. Who knows what’ll happen.
@enzo_gt:
this is most likely not real…
if it is real…
LOL
This was Nintendo’s “secret title” that they’ve been mentioning, but who woulda thought it’d be another Sonic game.
I feel better about having a Wii again.
Wow. Idk, is that real? SEGA already has two Sonic games underway, i don’t think they’re gonna do this. Besides, they’re trying to bring back classic feel, and i dont think Sonic was swinging steel at the speed of sound back in 90’s.
I would eat my hat if it’s real…
@Mike: ” I feel better about having a Wii again. ”
Why?
sonic stadium has an update on it..
I know this is going a sonic version of red steel,and not that good.(however..hedgehog engine?)
I laughed,hard.
However,this is a spinoff made by another team.
see it like mario power tennis,do not worry.
If it is really real,this week in WTF was right after all…
@WiiFP:
I’ve already beaten all the good games the Wii has to offer and I need more stuff to play. Any new game for the Wii that doesn’t involve Mii’s is a Godsend.
I would say sit tight guys. If you don’t mind playing half the game as a Werehog (and you shouldn’t because it really looks like lots of fun) then this game will probably be the answer to your Sonic prayers.
Chad-
@enzo_gt:
I believe that is a fake.
Sonic looks totally photoshopped in that.
Also, why would Sonic use swords when he has the spin attack, which is, theoreticaly, as sharp as a sword, and has way more uses and more range?
Something else will be in place of Sonic when ths issue is released. I am subscribed to NP, so I’ll tell you guys when I have the issue.
@Mike: Haha true, but try Super Smash Bros. Brawl. That game has neverending replay value. By far the best Wii game i own.
@enzo_gt:
WTF!?!? No, no, no! That can’t be real! *bangs head against wall*
Sonic doesn’t need a sword! And they’re basically butchering all of the hype for Unleashed!
If this thing’s real, I’m gonna be real upset with SEGA…
@RGamer: Ya, i was gonna ask if anybody was subscribed. Besides, the issue is marked September, it’s not even August yet, and Magazines usually only print a month early. Like, The August edition should be out, if not, soon.
@Jerbba: Yeah, that’s what happens, people with the same views tend to gather where there are people with their same opinions…>__>;;
@dragonite: You know the latest Nintendo Power, the one that had the Sonic Unleashed for Wii scans, the one I got the write up for?
The last page had a glowing sword with its tip slightly behind half of what any Sonic fan would tell you is a portion of Sonic’s head. SA-style shading and all.
But here’s the interesting part…I’m a subscriber to Nintendo Power. Subscibers get the issue BEFORE they get on store shelves.
…and I don’t HAVE mine yet. If he has it, but I don’t, then either the postal service doesn’t like me or something fishy is going on.
…but it sure does look like a great fake! The way he cut off his own address makes me suspicious…it’s WAY off, if it was really the real deal, a few more numbers and asteriks should have been showing.
But what we DO know…it involves Sonic. And maybe a sword. Maybe he isn’t even wielding it. But I’m pretty sure most everybody isn’t digging the idea of Sonic with the sword, even if it looks freakin’ sweet.
…but nobody else noticed the connection until now because they were teasing about the cover issue being about a feature on MOTHER 3.
Can somebody check for sonic’s pose and the sword and glove?
if it is a fake,they got to come from somewhere..
Actually, come to think of it, I know that game’s fake. Notice how NP didn’t even mention E3. Surely there would have been some kind of cover mentioning of Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort, or the new MotionPlus peripheral.
People, don’t buy into that scan.
@Crazee:
….Seriously…What planet do you live on? Magazines ALWAYS get exclusives. Wolfenstein is just the most latest example.
This is real people. Browse around the thread a bit and you will find a picture of Nintendo Power teasing their next exclusive in the last issue, which fits in well with this announcement.
No need to call fake just because it looks like it will suck. OMG SONIC LOOKS AWESOME WITH HIS AWESOME SWOR- No. Go die Sega, and take the Sonic Franchise with you, your only going down from here. There is no return. I hope all of you guys enjoyed the Sonic games as much as I did.
@iNAUDiBLE: And the issue is marked September 2008. And i already said something about it ^ Up there.
@WiiFP:
I subscribe too, and they released the July issue in June, August issue in July, etc. They always do that.
im gonna look into satbk for us see ya in a bit
@WiiFP: The last issue that I got WAS the August issue.
Who knows why? I have no clue…
This is the first time I’ve seriously questioned SEGA’s judgement, we can only hope that it IS photoshopped.
@RGamer: How can you tell that it’s shopped? You have to admit, the render does look quite real…I have to admit, the logo with Fox at the top right does look a bit fishy….
@enzo_gt: Woah Woah Woah pal. Whats with the ‘go die SEGA’ ? Calm down. Sonic might be making a comeback with Sonic Unleashed. Wait it out. And calm down.
ahem.. it has been released that it is Not SatAM. its a cgi movie. though it still may not come out. its in pre production.
holy hedgehogs thats a lot if comments after 1 reload 0_o
okay…
where is sega?
I am going to check on the official forums now..
if somebody made a ruckus,it could get the ball rolling.
alot of largely unjustified bashing of unleashed in those places…
wait…
SONIC AND THE WHAT NOW?!?!!?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
sounds kinda like a sequel for SATSR,
y’know with the whole Sonic and the deal.
Who the hell do sega think sonic is?
Damn.
After looking at the preview for the September issue, the design for the sword looks completely different from the one shown in the scan. I’m not sure if it’s relevant or not, but it’s something.
@Final Rush: Ya, why? I never could figure it out . . . Why not release the Month on the magazine, on the Month?
@WiiFP:
No idea, honestly.
look at the text that says “sonic and the black knight”. not only is it pink, but you can tell that it does not align with the mag…
i didnt find anything on satbk so probly fake
@enzo_gt: Ooookay, buddy, if you have suddenly started to hate Sonic, even with the other, more “traditional” game coming out, then it’s probably a good idea for you to completely and totally cut yourself off from the Sonic fandom entirely, to…to ease your transition to cutting yourself off from the games.
Either that or be a waste of space and ***** about every single one of SEGA’s decisions regarding Sonic from here on out.
It’s a spin-off, a spin-off exclusive to one console only, one that’ll probably be overlooked due to the wider appeal of Sonic Unleashed. If it were meant to be the end of the franchise as we know it, they’d try and share it with the XBOX 360 and PS3 owners.
…*sigh* But that probably isn’t going to convince you, so go, shoo, shoo, and play a game in a series that you’ll probably like better than this one.
@Darkspines: Why do you say it’s not aligned . . . it is. The white box covering the kids address, is straight, everything else is slanted.
@Xeternalstar
frankly I hope so.
‘course I also hope that unleashed gets delayed,
so I might just be wierd
@iNAUDiBLE: “I have to admit, the logo with Fox at the top right does look a bit fishy…”
My thoughts exactly.
@iNAUDiBLE
once again you are the voice of reason.
after reading that i feel alot better.
cheers.
too bad that sonic chronicles is only for DS
@Final Rush: Wait, why does it look fishy?
@iNAUDiBLE:
The original image had the guys actual address on there. It was edited out. Also because you didn’t recieve your issue before @iNAUDiBLE:
I don’t hate Sonic, just Segas decisions on where to take the franchise. How traditional is the new game? I like the traditional parts. I even think the werehog could be interesting, but the fact is the Werehog is in a place where he shouldn’t be. Serves well to break up the action but why did it have to be Sonic? Why not just put in Knuckles/Tails?
I have been hyped for Sonic Unleashed too, and buy/rent it for sure. But no matter how good this game is, the idea of Sonic with a sword will tarnish the image of the game in my mind.
*remains calm* This better be a photoshop.
If Dead Rising is possible for the Wii.
If Final Fantasy 13 is possible on the 360.
Then ANYTHING is possible! I mean, c’mon. This is SEGA we’re talking about.
@WiiFP:
It could be just me, but it looks photoshopped (more than anything else on the scan).
@Darkspines: Yeah, it throws off the flow of the entire mag, the last cover only had white for every bit of text, except for the red, but it was on a white background.
Everything else seems to be in place…but the Nintendo Power logo is off slightly. Every other issue with the same logo has it straight. Either this is a dang good fake or they had an intern do one of the covers.
The character render for Sonic looks REAL, that’s the problem there. It could go either way, but I sure hope that there’s an option NOT to use the big shiny sword…not really for me, for everyone else. >__<;;
Here’s another tidbit that could be potentially nothing:
On the right side of the scan, in between the game titles “Skate It” and “Time Hollow”, there’s a white blotch.
That isn’t exactly an easy place to mess up a cover page for a magazine.
the whole cover has an off feel…
Well,tomorrow we will learn more I guess..
you know, come to think of it…
Why have so many types decided to hate on sonic?
SATBK just looks like a medevil counterpart to SATSR’s arabian tale, and that’s not so bad right?
and after seeing the gameplay for the werehog bits, they look more than bearable.
hell entire games have been made like that that weren’t so bad, the fact that we’re getting an awsome return to form alongside it is just freakin’ amazing.
and while i’m defing popular opinion,
SHADOW IS NOT THAT LAME DAGNABBIT.
now sleep.
@WiiFP: Oops, I’m sorry about that…admittedly, it’s really hard to tell, comparing the cover he got with the cover of the last issue, it seems like there would’ve been more text showing up on the upper left, the text they have…a short seven letter combination, followed by several asteriks, along with a few more letter and number combinations. Not too sure about it now, it’s all just up in the air about it.
@enzo_gt: I know that, I was saying the way that it was edited was fishy. But for all I know, it could be right.
You have a right to your opinion, I just thought you were being a bit overdramatic about it. But then again, I can’t take your opinion or your way of expressing it away from you, so well, that’s that.
Hrm, most of the time the community finds a copyright notice from a site…that’s how they found out about Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Unleashed, because there were notices on the name. Hm…this is for real nuts.
Giving Sonic a sword is like giving Mario a hammer…..oh wait….
@Final Rush:
The edges also have white spots on them. Maybe its just dust or scratches? I think you guys are looking too hard for signs of a fake. The Nintendo Power logo may be a slight off, but this is no scan, its a picture, so its not really that effective to count pixels.
The only evidence I can see is the September issue, isn’t the August issue supposed to be the one currently? And the green labels arent perpendicular to the edges of the paper. But once again, this isn’t evidence to use.
I think I overreacted. Sorry about that, but this infuriates me. Gimmicks are one thing, but bending the franchise is another. If this is true this will probably fit as the sequel to SatSR, which I haven’t played. This will probably use WiiMotion Plus.
it seems that the whole sonic community is in an uproar now..
I am going to bed,and check out the truth tomorrow.
@Final Rush: Either that means it’s fake, or it means that it makes somebody stained it before they got pictures of it, or it means that somebody at the printers messed up. It wouldn’t be the first time, ever since Future Publishing got in charge of Nintendo Power, I’ve had a few issues where pages have had splotches of color near the bottom of the page, that overlap with the text but don’t obscure it. Somebody is getting sloppy with it either way~
@DWalrus: Hm, I have the urge with joining you with the whole ******** popular opinion…we don’t know anything about this game or whether it’s real or anything…aw nerts.
And ’sides, if the guy can take a picture of the COVER of the magazine, the least he could’ve done is take pictures of the REST of the article.
Right, this is becoming quite a mess, so I suppose the only thing we can do is try to remain calm. It’s nuts, ladies and gentlemen!
@enzo_gt:
It’s worth notice that everyone on the internet is posting the same scan.
What, is there only one magazine copy out right now?
This whole thing seems very suspicious.
@enzo_gt: The edges look rough, but that sort of thing can happen to any issue of a magazine…
*nods* I agree with you about bending the franchise, gimmicks should complement traditional Sonic gameplay, not bend it.
…but nobody says that you can’t bend it in a SPIN-OFF. If it were a major title, we would’ve heard a bit more about it on E3 and it would’ve been available for all consoles…
…but that’s just my opinion. Admittedly, YOUR opinion about it being a spin off and using the Wii Motion Plus sounds like a much more reasonable idea. I don’t think that we would mind that.
*sigh* What a day. >__>;;
How long has it been since SatSR? Could probably be evidence towards this being legit or not and fitting that team’s development cycle (don’t know what team that is).
I’m cool now. To sum up: Someone scanned this, GAF picked up on it, as well as other sites, and now the world is in shambles. GAF doesn’t like Sonic Unleashed because of the whole werehog part. VERY opinionated forums, but good for a laugh. At best someone should be searching PR renders of Sonic now to find one that could have a sword (as well as sonic’s right hand) photoshopped into them. I give you a pennysworth of hope Sega, and nothing more.
I’m bailing out and going to go play some COD4.
@Final Rush: If it turns out to be real, and I get this issue tomorrow by some sort of miracle, I…
…will NOT be able to get any scans of it. My camera is crud, but I think I’ll manage to get a picture that’s good enough to prove that it’s real if it is…
…and I’ll be sure to type up the article by hand for all of you lovely people~. I don’t think it can be posted on Camp Sonic, since this IS the Sonic Unleashed site…but I’ll try to see if I can get it hosted somewhere else. o__o;;
…that is, if it is real. Either way, it’s rapid speculation time all over again. Yay~
…*yawns*
Didn’t people react the same way about werehog Sonic with the leaked screens? I mean jeez, calm down people! I mean, sure, I’m not fond of the idea of Sonic using swords either but I’d rather wait to see what this game is all about first before I act like it’s the end of the word.
To join a bunch of other people, when we first heard Sonic became Aladdin, we cried, pouted, and, oh..wait…THE GAME ROCKED!
Though this is most likely fake, it would be a great sequel…In other words, if it is real, be sad, emo, and depressed like Shadow… The karma will over ride it and BOOM! A good game! just like SatSR!
@enzo_gt: *nods* Great points, sir. I don’t like the idea of Sonic with weaponry, but if they succeed on pulling it off, I will be more than a penny’s worth impressed. Let’s hope.
Have fun with Call of Duty 4, I heard that that game is fuuuuuuuuun~!
Hm…on another subject…
From the Ripten Sonic Unleashed article.
“Being that many gamers, including myself, seemed to be very excited about the integration of side scrolling game play shown off in the trailers, I decided to ask SEGA about it. They said that gamers can look forward to about 40% side scrolling game play, however it will vary depending on the level itself. The Africa level for example, is said to be about 80% side scrolling. Drool.”
Hmm, they say that they’re splitting the 2D and 3D fifty-fifty? (Well, “about” is a term used when somebody is estimating, so they could mean more.)
…but still, some of the daytimes stages could have MORE 2D sidescrolling gameplay than 3D Sonic Adventure camera angle gameplay, and vice versa. Get a good balance on the gameplay style balance for all the daytime levels, and a lot of us will be pleased campers.
Oh, and i have another, not serious, thing to say- first is the legend of sonic:twilight were-hog, now Sonic-4 swords-adventures!
I just toatally lolled!
@iNAUDiBLE:
Yeah I can see it your way, but I look at the Sonic franchise differently. Lately its been spinoff after spinoff though, which isn’t so nice. SatSR seems like a second “main game” series to me though, as their partnership with Nintendo is more prevalent. Not quite as “main” as Unleashed and stuff but hey Ive always wanted to try SatSR.
I don’t hate the idea of Sonic Spinoffs either but you need limits. Sonic Riders? I though that was completely pointless. Chronicles shows promise. If they do a spinoff, I’m expecting a brand new gameplay mechanic, but with exactly what you said: Gimmicks or features that compliment gameplay. I tried to think of a good example here but I’ve blanked.
But ofcourse, Segas mentality is different from the demanding fans’. Who knows where this is going.
Evidence for those who call BS:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12053973&postcount=398
People don’t really… photoshop magazine covers, besides for entertainment. Too much work.
Okay NOW I’m bailing out. My UAV IS ONLINE. And yes iNAUDiBLE, it is fun. You should try it sometime
@Darkspines: Yes, negativity will only make things worse. If you go towards a game with a negative attitude, then chances are that things probably won’t change one bit.
I try to go towards Sonic games with a neutral attitude, and so far I haven’t been disappointed.
…well, except for Tails Skypatrol and Sonic Labyrinth. Let’s never speak of those again.
The Ripten article also that that the trailer music from the High Europe trailer won’t be in the actual level…but they also said they weren’t going to use Sonic World Adventure in anyway, so who knows? o__o;;
The thing the sword is sticking into looks like classic sonic’s spin jump…oh no…cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud!
But when tons of people are negetive about sonic games (except for those 2 gemes that make your heart bleed piss) they end up good!
erm.. how did you make a smiley? i didn’t know u could do that…
Woo hoo! first quadruple comment so far!
@enzo_gt: I agree, I agree, way too many spin offs. XD
I didn’t particularly like the first Sonic Riders, but the second was a much improved game, even if the concept didn’t make any sense.
SEGA does listen, but they know that they can’t please everybody. All they can do is try and make a good game…in the time limit that they allot themselves. >___<;; I wish they’d give themselves more time.
Well, I have to be off as well. I always thought that a Call of Duty game set with an original modern storyline would be great. Nice to know that it worked. <33
Good night, peeps, try not to get an ulcer from all of this new information.
@sonicfan:
We first found out about WereSonic directly from SEGA, not some magazine scan that no one seems to know anything about.
But yeah, I guess I should calm down and see what this game actually has to offer should it turn out to be real.
U go to bed at 7:00? or figure of speech? where i am its 6:04!
David Legget ,have you ever thought that SEGA might actually be using the Hedgehog engine for Wii and PS2? Like, SEGA said there will be no online or multiplayer modes of any kind, right? Maybe SEGA is doing the same thing but with the Hedgehog engine. What do you think about my opinion?
I got this comment from EdwardoMario16 at the GameFAQS board. He also made up a good point:
“Now that I’m over the shock, It’s time to discuss the game.
S&tBK must be the spiritual sequel to Secret Rings with the whole concept of Sonic exploring a popular fairytale book world. In Secret Rings it was Arabian Knights. This one must be the whole “King Arthur and the Round Table” bit. You know, the Holy Grail, Camelot, Excalibur, that stuff.”
So is this a possible sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings? ^^
@sonicfan: “S&tBK must be the spiritual sequel to Secret Rings with the whole concept of Sonic exploring a popular fairytale book world. In Secret Rings it was Arabian Knights. This one must be the whole “King Arthur and the Round Table” bit. You know, the Holy Grail, Camelot, Excalibur, that stuff.”
It may be cliche, but I actually like the sound of that.
a sonic with a sword…sounds interesting…not as interesting as a were-wolf sonic though
I’m hoping the mag is a fake though…just cuz…well…why would sonic need a sword anyways??
¡¡¡Sonic and the dark knight!!!!!!!
http://www.sonicstadium.org/files/posts/2008/07/wtf1.jpg
Oh god…
to sum it up:
Pros:
- like some here said, you don’t photoshop a whole magazine cover just for a hoax. Too much work.
- the character render looks quite real (to me at least), the pose, the glove and the sword acutally fit quite good together (artistically I mean). The way he’s laid out on the page isn’t that great, but magazines do that sometimes.
Cons:
- The work might be worth it, seeing the reaction of the fanbase right now. Hell, there’s even already a wikipedia of it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_and_the_Black_Knight
- And why didn’t that guy just OPEN the damn magazine and take pictures of THE ARTICLE ITSELF?
…oh well, time for bed (it’s 1:43 am here xD). I might warm up to this title once… might… a little bit…
It’d be better if it ere rocket knight. revive him sega! pleeeeez
I still find it suspicious. Yeah, magazines do get exclusives. But there is usually some buzz, some sort of rumor. I wouldn’t know about Wolfenstein, shooters mean nothing to me. But speaking of Sega, they are not good with hiding anything. Maybe I’m wrong and magazines do get stories before the internet, but it seems unlikely with printing times. I’m never really surprised anymore when I read them, anyway. Plus, it makes no business sense. Three Sonic games in development at once? It’s not very logical.
I wouldn’t mind if it was true really, as a sequal to S&TSR it would be a seperate development team with a seperate series. It’s worked before with other game series, why not Sonic? Sonic Unleashed is the “real” game, but Secret Rings is a fan favorite of many. Including journalists, oddly.
But I refuse to believe this until it’s PROVEN with multiple scans or actual official information. The cover is irrelevent to me, it just makes no logical sense to announce this at this time in this way. But it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been wrong. Either way, I have seen A LOT of cover fakes that looked great…
Those review impressions I read got me pretty pissed off at what there saying about Sonic Unleashed. They say the daytime levels are awesome but not alot of detail and than they say the werehog levels are stupid. There saying 50% of the game is classic and the other 50% is BS. The game not even out yet and there already saying **** about the game. I say forget does jacka$$’s and let’s just see what we think of the game. Once the game comes out and they hear the game was the best 3D Sonic game ever, there going to feel like a bunch a jacka$$’s.
OH!!! in japan, sonic unleashed is called: Sonic World Adventure, But, here in Tennesssee, it’s called: Sonic Unleashed. In sonic unleashed, will we exspore the city?
im new here but a total sonic fan dudes
@Aubrey: Short answer, Yes.
@Aubrey: The city of tenessee?
Everyone needs to calm down on this possible Sonic and the Black Knight thing. Be it fake or real, what does it matter? I personally say give it a chance if it is real and if it turns out fake, at least you didn’t get worked up over nothing. I personally say trying knew things is fine. I have most of the Sonic games and each game had an enjoyable factor to it. The whole thing of saying it’s horrible because it is different from the original is pretty sad in my opinion. I don’t mean to offend people, but these kinds of complaints are what make me very irritated at people. To keep a franchise alive you need to spread from the original theme a bit. Give any game a chance, give the werehog Sonic a chance and any other thing a chance. A change from the classic Sonics doesn’t mean failure.
@DarkChaos: I agree. People need to calm down about this new possible installment. It could be a fun and enjoyable game. Look at Sonic Chronicles people, It’s an RPG turn-base game, very different from the other sonic games, and people are getting pretty into that.
@yamiseto:
Unfortunately for us, they ARE among the ones who decide whether or not Unleashed is going to be the best 3D Sonic game ever.
@DarkChaos:
I get what you’re trying to say, but the problem is SEGA HAS failed nearly every single time they’ve strayed from the formula. Who knows? Maybe the Werehog will be different. Maybe SatBK will also be different if it turns out to be real. We really don’t know. But one thing’s for sure: fans and critics alike have every right to be skeptical.
Here’s to hoping SEGA’s making a change in the right direction!
@WiiFP:
Well, BioWare does have a pedigree track record, so fans shouldn’t be too worried about Chronicles.
I love all the sonic games and the black knight I want to belive but I think it might be fake alough I thought that about mario and sonic at the olympics…
I’ve been a sonic fan ever since the begining, I love the classics and I loved the Sonic adventure series, and enjoyed the games that follow those and I think that cover of the Nintendo Power looks awesome! I am tiny bit skeptical though, but all I’ve seen is the cover, so I won’t judge yet. I could be really cool, It may not even be real but it does look legit.
Sonic with a sword does sound better than Shadow with a gun, but then again, a lot of things do.
PS. Sonic Unleashed looks like it will join the group of favorite Sonic games. Others are Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle!
I meant to say “It” could be really cool, not “I”
lol, I didn’t read all the comments but on “The Black Knight” I think some of you guys are on to something, the address bar from the Sonic Stadium posting does not look right. As for the Fox thing in the upper right hand corner I think they had it on this/last months issue. Plus the spine corners look too used to be a preview for the next issue, in other words the magazine looks like it has been on a magazine stand at a store too long. I realize that Nintendo Power prints their stuff in advance but if it’s a “leak” or whatever of an issue that has yet to come out I doubt it would have that wear and tear.
@Crazee:
There was a rumour but it was downplayed, everyone thought (and many think still is) that the game was Kingdom Hearts 3 that they were teasing. You are right though, there should’ve been some sort of buzz before the actual visuals were leaked.
And I don’t understand what you mean about business sense. Sonic, much like Mario, has games developed by different studios. For instance, the next “main” Mario game is being developed by one studio, will Mario Sluggers by another. Sonic Chronicles is being developed by Bioware, and Sonic Unleashed by Sonic Team and DIMPS (I wikied it).
I also, like you, refuse to believe (now) that this is true until I see more than one screen. One mock up is easy to do now that I think of it, in comparison to a press release. If someone was to make a mockup, they wouldn’t be doing a Sonic game, no offence people. They’d be focusing on making a cover for the next Halo, GTAV, or some other blockbuster.
@yamiseto:
Thats the idea, your supposed to take them with a grain of salt. Previews are well, previews. Theyre previewing a game in Alpha (or pre-alpha was it?) and they give their impressions, not to be taken as reviews. Kotaku and such should be taken with a mountain of salt, opinionated blogs like that give the no BS opinion, which I respect and think should be there, to even out monotomy in game reviews.
@DarkChaos:
Most will give it a chance, but Sega has lost respect with the fans. There was a time where Sega published some of the greatest games recieved by gamers: SA1&2, Gunstar Heroes, Virtua Fighter, Rez etc. But especially with the Sonic Series, things have noticably gone downhill. I have never heard of a Sonic Fan that has enjoyed 2006 more than Sonic Heroes, and that more than SA2. They try too much, try to twist their formula, but we still gave them faith. Unleashed is the revolution some of us were looking for, thinking Sega digested their **** ideas. And then the Werehog hit. I personally gave the werehog a chance after seeing gameplay footage, but meh.
Whoa, uber long post.
David, David, quick, start a Sonic and the Dark Knight (or whatever the hell it’s called, check the Nintendo Power cover) website!!!!
@sn8k: “Plus the spine corners look too used to be a preview for the next issue, in other words the magazine looks like it has been on a magazine stand at a store too long. This.
Hey, guys. If you want some proof that this isn’t fake…
Does anyone have the May issue for Nintendo Power? I do…Now, at the final page; there’s a sword stuck into a blue object. That object is somehow colored sonic adventure like. Irony huh?
Here’s what it says about the next issue…..
“September 2008 Vol. 232
Next Month
We’ll kick off the next 20 years of Nintendo Power with more big reveals, including a top secret cover story fit for a king. It’s got a lot of heart. Just kidding. It’s Mother 3. Just kidding. Please look forward to it.”
Am I lying? Ha, don’t think so. Here’s proof!

Sorry for the camera flash.
@ShadoHejjihoggu: Er, sorry folks I meant August issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yeah, I get what you’re saying. But these are all mainline games, not sports titles or compilations. These are “big” titles. It seems odd to promote a Wii-exclusive Sonic game two months from the release date of your next big Sonic title. If information leaked…fair enough, it happens. But this is a deliberate marketing attempt that had to have been planned for at LEAST a month or two before the release of the magazine. Sonic Unleashed is a Wii title…why draw attention away from it? That’s what I mean by bad business sense. They would wait until Unleashed comes out and hopefully gain positive attention if the game is as good as they believe it is. At this point, you gain NOTHING except ridicule. Sega can be stupid…but they are not that stupid, IMO. At least, I would hope not.
To be honest, I wouldn’t mind it being true. It doesn’t offend me. They could release some Sonic strategy game…I’d have no interest, but I’d just say no with my pocketbook. As long as the main series are good, then spinoffs and side series can appeal to another audience. Square does this quite often, and the fans are just glad enough to see their favorite characters that they accept it. Why? The games are good. S&TSR deserves a sequal, and if this was that…it’s Sonic in a fantasy setting. I think it’d be fun.
But…I don’t believe it. Not at all. Let it be known, I’ve only read your post here since I clicked the “recent comments”. So if anyone brought up good points, I’ll feel stupid. But Sega would be stupider…marketing wise.
@ShadoHejjihoggu:
Um, I wouldn’t really call that “proof”. The design of the sword looks completely different from the one shown on the supposed September issue cover scan.
And it’s the August issue, not May.
@Final Rush: Dude, I’ve been in Nintendo Power back since 1998. If the next preview pretty much HINTS the cover…Thats what it’s going to be on the next month issue. Please, forget how the sword looks.
Look at the coloring style! Does anyone color besides that? Or did people forget that’s how Sonicteam is known for to have their concepts like.
But you didn’t read that I did corrected myself it was the august issue. >__>; Read more carefully then jumping there.
@Final Rush: Oh…Uh, I do have proof. Look at that issue. The September issue. What number does it say below the white box that shows the address?
232. XP Dude, what did I tell you? What does it say for the next preview on the august issue? 232 for the next issue after 231. Sheesh, LOOK harder.
@ShadoHejjihoggu: It could be proof since sometimes they deliberately style it differently and the blue coloring does imply Sonic, but honestly, it looks like a sword in a stone or something like that. If it was Sonic or anyone wielding a sword, wouldn’t it be a silhouette of a person holding a sword? It could be even a standard person silhouette holding a sword in blue background that could imply Sonic, but not this. I think it would actually be rather interesting to see how a game with Sonic wielding a sword would play out, but that picture doesn’t back up the cover for this supposed game very well. We’ll just have to wait until the magazine actually comes out and then someone will clear this up.
check this out http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=2084
could it be real?
@DarkChaos: Look at the issue number >__> not the sword…*Sighs* Is that plainly obvious?
If I sound like a stupid noob, then I must be on crack.
@blu_7: UPDATE: ;ools like someone here beat me to it -_-
oh no could it be..
SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG ALL OVER AGAIN
@ShadoHejjihoggu: I did notice the number, but that says nothing. The number may be accurate but that does not clarify anything and not to be rude to you, but I am not going to start who’s right and who’s wrong argument. We all have our opinions and I personally hope it is a true game, but I won’t be upset if it isn’t. If it is a fake though, whoever made it is probably having a good laugh about the uproar this is causing.
@ShadoHejjihoggu:
Oh, wow. Like that’s IMPOSSIBLE to photoshop, right?
What I’d like to know is if this guy who scanned the Sept. issue isn’t pulling a pfast one, then why didn’t he actually open the magazine and scan the article? Just doesn’t make sense to me.
@Final Rush: If you were a professional.
But of course everyone though Weresonic was fake.
My last note…If anyone has this issue, they’ll pretty tell you it’s the same thing in the back page.
Dude, don’t push me, seriously…
*fast (sorry, typo)
@ShadoHejjihoggu:
The first Werehog pics came directly from SEGA, not some magazine scan that no one seems to know anything about.
Rather than start some pointless arguement, just wait a few days until we actually receive word on the validity of the scan. That’s all it takes.
for a skilled graphic artist it would be pretty easy to put something like that together i mean just scale down a knights glove with a sword and slam it on the sonic picture im sure eventually there will be an identicle picture without the sword OR sega made that to cause an uproar to get everyones mind of SU and SC db OR its real
take your pick, im not sure.
Whoa, 130 comments already? This topic’s on fire!
does anybody dare challenge my post on the first look thing?
seriously im just making a point the wii has great hardware that isnt being put to the test people… thoughts?
Gun + Shadow = Gangsta
Sword + Sonic = Noble Knight
That’s just the image swords give.
I doubt they rushed it. For all we know the game could’ve been in development since Unleashed as the sequal to Secret Rings, and Unleashed for Wii is just being made by Dimps to rake in extra money. (It is the most popular system after all and most Sega fans are Nintendo fans. Don’t want kids to be left out.)
How are we so sure it’s an Action/Adventure game anyways? What if it’s an Rpg? Would that make everybody feel better?
You know…kinda turn-based like the Mario Rpgs. Probably link up between The Dark Brotherhood using wifi. You know you’re lovin’ that idea. Hell, maybe this version will even include the Chao Garden. Think about that.
So don’t be so negative. This is only the….2nd?….Sonic game that Sonic Team has been working on. The other two are being made by 2 different companies altogether.
Btw, It’s Nintendo Powers 20th Anniversery and Sonic is on the front cover. I couldn’t help but laugh at that. XD
WHATEVER HAPPEN TO “GOING BACK TO THE BASICS”
wow I just don’t want to use the computer for just one day and this comes up.
Maybe the black knight is Shadow
lol
The quote Nintendo Power said with it weird Sonic cover sounds weird.
“The Blue Blur swings cold steel in his big new Wii-exclusive adventure”
Note:Have you guys notice that on the pic it showed Sonic with one big eye with two pupils. Now the nose dosen’t separate the eyes.
@Sonicman: His nose never seperated his eyes. Are you new to Sonic?
it was always one eye with two pupils. it makes him friendly to younger gamers. teddy-bear like yet tough as nails. i guess
Before you can go back to the basics you must be aware that sonic has never had two seperate eyes. The only differene to them that has ever been made is that they were made to have green color around his pupils for Sonic Adventure.
that was @ Sonicman
thats all you guys have written??0_o (>’.')> kirby
“The change up between night time “exploration mode” and day time “speed mode” did not bother me one bit. In fact, the “Werehog” version of Sonic seemed pretty bad ***. I am keeping an open mind and will definitely be interested in getting my hands on Sonic Unleashed when it hits stores in November 2008.”
Took the words right out of my mouth.
I’m still a bit worried about what the werehog will do to Sonic’s personality, but like he said, I’ll keep an open mind too. The game seems to be a great and fun experience.
I’m also worried to what the presence of the side-characters will do to the story. I’m the kind of fan that prefers Sonic alone, or with Tails by his side.
If that’s the 231# issue of Nitendo power and it’s the 20th anniversary, than what’s this issue of. Look’s more real than that. This is the real august issue of Nintendo Power.

online chao shop!!!!!!!!!!
@yamiseto:
It’s not. It’s the 232nd issue of Nintendo Power. In other words, the September issue.
This SEGA movie better not be with SatAM or whatever. I hate the characters. Please keep to the video game characters!
@PrincessTikal:
Yeah, but at least the storyline was interesting.
@Final Rush: I don’t understand. Is it a Satam movie or is it SEGA’s “internal” movie? Because didn’t they say no to the Satam guy in the article? And SEGA making a Satam movie doesn’t really make sense, a Sonic X movie maybe (since Sonic Team made it), but not Satam, especially since it ended years ago, unless its a comeback thing.
………Oh, I don’t know!!!
the last page tease could be herald a new Zelda game, Kingdom Hearts (which we already know is coming to DS), or – in the ultimate fanboy disappointment play – merely a new Fire Emblem. Booo. See you next month where I cry.
I am so going to watch his reaction when he learns of the sonic game.
@Lamb84:
its been released its a CGI movie. that means fully 3D.
Guys I swear to god I have this issue, let me give you a quote,
The name of the Article is Sonic Unsheathed
“Sega’s fleet-footed hedgehog forges a new path and clashes with royalty in Sonic and the Black Night, exclusively on Wii.
Sonic certainly is a busy hedgehog these days. He’s already slated to make his RPG debut in September’s Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for DS, followed by Wii platforming romp Sonic Unleashed in November. But never one to rest on his laurels, the Blue Blur is also revving up for next year, when he’ll get midieval in the Wii-Exclusive action-adventure Sonic and the Black Knight.”
It goes on to tell you about how it is controlled with Wii Remote and Nunchuk, it is the second entry in the series called the “storybook series” started with Satsr.
I am sorry for no pictures, but for proof go to the Sega forums. One of the sub-forums is called Sonic and the Black Knight
@Darkspines: So its not a SatAM movie?
What do you mean it was released already? I never heard about it.
