19 Things You May Have Missed During E3
E3 was really busy for those of us interested in Sonic Unleashed, which by a count of hands, I see is nearly everyone here. With all the action going on in our own community, you may have missed some interesting posts from around the greater Sonic Community. Here’s some of the links we found to be interesting over the past week!
- Summer of Sonic: Play Sonic Chronicles before it’s released! – It’s times like these that I really wish I could afford overseas airfare. Participate over at Summer of Sonic, and you could play Sonic Chronicles nearly 2 months before it’s release!
- What AAUK’s been up to – Speaking of Summer of Sonic, check out what AAUK has been up to recently!
- Sonic Chronicles Website Updated – And in regards to Sonic Chronicles, you may have not noticed that the official site has been updated. Find all 60 rings, and you’ll unlock 2 awesome wallpapers (a few of them are a bit tricky)
- Lots of new Sonic Chronicles Screenshots over at TSSZ – And we mean LOTS.
- Plus a Recap of the Playtest demonstrated at E3 - A pretty good read if you’re considering purchasing it later on.
- Where in the World is Jun Senoue – According to TSS, he may already be working on things for the next Sonic game!
- 2007 Sonic Movie Pitch Was in Fact Real – The Sonic Stadium has details. Sounds like an end to all the Sonic Move drama.
- Samba De Amigo to include Classic Sega Characters – Such as… you guessed it – Sonic.
- Riptens’ Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “I believe that Sonic Unleashed has the potential to be one of the best Sonic games in a very long time, stretchy Werehog arms and all. A few months ago Nintendo took Mario into outer space, and frankly I see this as SEGA’s attempt to experiment with the Sonic brand in a similar way.” – It’s a great read folks!
- Gamespot’s Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “When night falls, you’ll encounter a pretty different spin on the classic gameplay, but from what we were able to see in a demonstration today, fans of Sonic Adventure should be able to look forward to another capable platformer.“
- 1UP Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “Sonic Unleashed certainly looks to draw in several distinct gameplay elements, but unless the daytime segments dominate the experience, we may be looking at yet another uneven 3D Sonic experience.“.
- Kotaku’s Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “When we said we hated the stupid tacked on 3D gimmicky elements of the 3D Sonic games, we didn’t mean we hated them only 50% of the time. 50% of crap and marshmallows is still 50% crap.“.
- Kombo’s Sonic Unleashed Impressions – “The question that remains is this: Will Sonic Team put together a polished game that reinvigorates the brand, or will they yet again let Sega shove an unfinished product out the door to make that November release date?“.
- SEGA E3 Mass Breakdown – A great rundown of what SEGA had to show off this year at E3.
- Triple E3 Roundup – Sonic City Blognik picks up where the SEGA Europe blog leaves off with a roundup of what Sega had to show at E3.
- The Great SEGA Move – Sega of America has moved! Check out their new office!
- Official Sonic World Adventure Site Launches – For the unaware, Sonic World Adventure is the Japanese title for Sonic Unleashed. Their new site is awesome!
- This Week in WTF (1UP) – Scroll down a bit for a hilarious read (for the not so easily offended I should add).
- Blue Blur Central’s Sonic All Star Awards - Blue Blur Central is hosting the Sonic All Star Awards for the best Sonic sites out there. Nominate your favorite sites, and be prepared to vote soon!

@Darkspines: Why do you say it’s not aligned . . . it is. The white box covering the kids address, is straight, everything else is slanted.
@Xeternalstar
frankly I hope so.
‘course I also hope that unleashed gets delayed,
so I might just be wierd
@iNAUDiBLE: “I have to admit, the logo with Fox at the top right does look a bit fishy…”
My thoughts exactly.
@iNAUDiBLE
once again you are the voice of reason.
after reading that i feel alot better.
cheers.
too bad that sonic chronicles is only for DS
@Final Rush: Wait, why does it look fishy?
@iNAUDiBLE:
The original image had the guys actual address on there. It was edited out. Also because you didn’t recieve your issue before @iNAUDiBLE:
I don’t hate Sonic, just Segas decisions on where to take the franchise. How traditional is the new game? I like the traditional parts. I even think the werehog could be interesting, but the fact is the Werehog is in a place where he shouldn’t be. Serves well to break up the action but why did it have to be Sonic? Why not just put in Knuckles/Tails?
I have been hyped for Sonic Unleashed too, and buy/rent it for sure. But no matter how good this game is, the idea of Sonic with a sword will tarnish the image of the game in my mind.
*remains calm* This better be a photoshop.
If Dead Rising is possible for the Wii.
If Final Fantasy 13 is possible on the 360.
Then ANYTHING is possible! I mean, c’mon. This is SEGA we’re talking about.
@WiiFP:
It could be just me, but it looks photoshopped (more than anything else on the scan).
@Darkspines: Yeah, it throws off the flow of the entire mag, the last cover only had white for every bit of text, except for the red, but it was on a white background.
Everything else seems to be in place…but the Nintendo Power logo is off slightly. Every other issue with the same logo has it straight. Either this is a dang good fake or they had an intern do one of the covers.
The character render for Sonic looks REAL, that’s the problem there. It could go either way, but I sure hope that there’s an option NOT to use the big shiny sword…not really for me, for everyone else. >__<;;
Here’s another tidbit that could be potentially nothing:
On the right side of the scan, in between the game titles “Skate It” and “Time Hollow”, there’s a white blotch.
That isn’t exactly an easy place to mess up a cover page for a magazine.
the whole cover has an off feel…
Well,tomorrow we will learn more I guess..
you know, come to think of it…
Why have so many types decided to hate on sonic?
SATBK just looks like a medevil counterpart to SATSR’s arabian tale, and that’s not so bad right?
and after seeing the gameplay for the werehog bits, they look more than bearable.
hell entire games have been made like that that weren’t so bad, the fact that we’re getting an awsome return to form alongside it is just freakin’ amazing.
and while i’m defing popular opinion,
SHADOW IS NOT THAT LAME DAGNABBIT.
now sleep.
@WiiFP: Oops, I’m sorry about that…admittedly, it’s really hard to tell, comparing the cover he got with the cover of the last issue, it seems like there would’ve been more text showing up on the upper left, the text they have…a short seven letter combination, followed by several asteriks, along with a few more letter and number combinations. Not too sure about it now, it’s all just up in the air about it.
@enzo_gt: I know that, I was saying the way that it was edited was fishy. But for all I know, it could be right.
You have a right to your opinion, I just thought you were being a bit overdramatic about it. But then again, I can’t take your opinion or your way of expressing it away from you, so well, that’s that.
Hrm, most of the time the community finds a copyright notice from a site…that’s how they found out about Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Unleashed, because there were notices on the name. Hm…this is for real nuts.
Giving Sonic a sword is like giving Mario a hammer…..oh wait….
@Final Rush:
The edges also have white spots on them. Maybe its just dust or scratches? I think you guys are looking too hard for signs of a fake. The Nintendo Power logo may be a slight off, but this is no scan, its a picture, so its not really that effective to count pixels.
The only evidence I can see is the September issue, isn’t the August issue supposed to be the one currently? And the green labels arent perpendicular to the edges of the paper. But once again, this isn’t evidence to use.
I think I overreacted. Sorry about that, but this infuriates me. Gimmicks are one thing, but bending the franchise is another. If this is true this will probably fit as the sequel to SatSR, which I haven’t played. This will probably use WiiMotion Plus.
it seems that the whole sonic community is in an uproar now..
I am going to bed,and check out the truth tomorrow.
@Final Rush: Either that means it’s fake, or it means that it makes somebody stained it before they got pictures of it, or it means that somebody at the printers messed up. It wouldn’t be the first time, ever since Future Publishing got in charge of Nintendo Power, I’ve had a few issues where pages have had splotches of color near the bottom of the page, that overlap with the text but don’t obscure it. Somebody is getting sloppy with it either way~
@DWalrus: Hm, I have the urge with joining you with the whole screwing popular opinion…we don’t know anything about this game or whether it’s real or anything…aw nerts.
And ’sides, if the guy can take a picture of the COVER of the magazine, the least he could’ve done is take pictures of the REST of the article. :P
Right, this is becoming quite a mess, so I suppose the only thing we can do is try to remain calm. It’s nuts, ladies and gentlemen!
@enzo_gt:
It’s worth notice that everyone on the internet is posting the same scan.
What, is there only one magazine copy out right now?
This whole thing seems very suspicious.
@enzo_gt: The edges look rough, but that sort of thing can happen to any issue of a magazine…
*nods* I agree with you about bending the franchise, gimmicks should complement traditional Sonic gameplay, not bend it. :)
…but nobody says that you can’t bend it in a SPIN-OFF. If it were a major title, we would’ve heard a bit more about it on E3 and it would’ve been available for all consoles…
…but that’s just my opinion. Admittedly, YOUR opinion about it being a spin off and using the Wii Motion Plus sounds like a much more reasonable idea. I don’t think that we would mind that.
*sigh* What a day. >__>;;
How long has it been since SatSR? Could probably be evidence towards this being legit or not and fitting that team’s development cycle (don’t know what team that is).
I’m cool now. To sum up: Someone scanned this, GAF picked up on it, as well as other sites, and now the world is in shambles. GAF doesn’t like Sonic Unleashed because of the whole werehog part. VERY opinionated forums, but good for a laugh. At best someone should be searching PR renders of Sonic now to find one that could have a sword (as well as sonic’s right hand) photoshopped into them. I give you a pennysworth of hope Sega, and nothing more.
I’m bailing out and going to go play some COD4. :)
@Final Rush: If it turns out to be real, and I get this issue tomorrow by some sort of miracle, I…
…will NOT be able to get any scans of it. My camera is crud, but I think I’ll manage to get a picture that’s good enough to prove that it’s real if it is…
…and I’ll be sure to type up the article by hand for all of you lovely people~. I don’t think it can be posted on Camp Sonic, since this IS the Sonic Unleashed site…but I’ll try to see if I can get it hosted somewhere else. o__o;;
…that is, if it is real. Either way, it’s rapid speculation time all over again. Yay~
…*yawns*
Didn’t people react the same way about werehog Sonic with the leaked screens? I mean jeez, calm down people! I mean, sure, I’m not fond of the idea of Sonic using swords either but I’d rather wait to see what this game is all about first before I act like it’s the end of the word.
To join a bunch of other people, when we first heard Sonic became Aladdin, we cried, pouted, and, oh..wait…THE GAME ROCKED!
Though this is most likely fake, it would be a great sequel…In other words, if it is real, be sad, emo, and depressed like Shadow… The karma will over ride it and BOOM! A good game! just like SatSR!
@enzo_gt: *nods* Great points, sir. I don’t like the idea of Sonic with weaponry, but if they succeed on pulling it off, I will be more than a penny’s worth impressed. Let’s hope.
Have fun with Call of Duty 4, I heard that that game is fuuuuuuuuun~!
Hm…on another subject…
From the Ripten Sonic Unleashed article.
“Being that many gamers, including myself, seemed to be very excited about the integration of side scrolling game play shown off in the trailers, I decided to ask SEGA about it. They said that gamers can look forward to about 40% side scrolling game play, however it will vary depending on the level itself. The Africa level for example, is said to be about 80% side scrolling. Drool.”
Hmm, they say that they’re splitting the 2D and 3D fifty-fifty? (Well, “about” is a term used when somebody is estimating, so they could mean more.)
…but still, some of the daytimes stages could have MORE 2D sidescrolling gameplay than 3D Sonic Adventure camera angle gameplay, and vice versa. Get a good balance on the gameplay style balance for all the daytime levels, and a lot of us will be pleased campers. :)
Oh, and i have another, not serious, thing to say- first is the legend of sonic:twilight were-hog, now Sonic-4 swords-adventures!
I just toatally lolled!
@iNAUDiBLE:
Yeah I can see it your way, but I look at the Sonic franchise differently. Lately its been spinoff after spinoff though, which isn’t so nice. SatSR seems like a second “main game” series to me though, as their partnership with Nintendo is more prevalent. Not quite as “main” as Unleashed and stuff but hey Ive always wanted to try SatSR.
I don’t hate the idea of Sonic Spinoffs either but you need limits. Sonic Riders? I though that was completely pointless. Chronicles shows promise. If they do a spinoff, I’m expecting a brand new gameplay mechanic, but with exactly what you said: Gimmicks or features that compliment gameplay. I tried to think of a good example here but I’ve blanked.
But ofcourse, Segas mentality is different from the demanding fans’. Who knows where this is going.
Evidence for those who call BS:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12053973&postcount=398
People don’t really… photoshop magazine covers, besides for entertainment. Too much work.
Okay NOW I’m bailing out. My UAV IS ONLINE. And yes iNAUDiBLE, it is fun. You should try it sometime :)
@Darkspines: Yes, negativity will only make things worse. If you go towards a game with a negative attitude, then chances are that things probably won’t change one bit.
I try to go towards Sonic games with a neutral attitude, and so far I haven’t been disappointed.
…well, except for Tails Skypatrol and Sonic Labyrinth. Let’s never speak of those again. :P
The Ripten article also that that the trailer music from the High Europe trailer won’t be in the actual level…but they also said they weren’t going to use Sonic World Adventure in anyway, so who knows? o__o;;
The thing the sword is sticking into looks like classic sonic’s spin jump…oh no…cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud!
But when tons of people are negetive about sonic games (except for those 2 gemes that make your heart bleed piss) they end up good!
erm.. how did you make a smiley? i didn’t know u could do that…
Woo hoo! first quadruple comment so far!
@enzo_gt: I agree, I agree, way too many spin offs. XD
I didn’t particularly like the first Sonic Riders, but the second was a much improved game, even if the concept didn’t make any sense.
SEGA does listen, but they know that they can’t please everybody. All they can do is try and make a good game…in the time limit that they allot themselves. >___<;; I wish they’d give themselves more time.
Well, I have to be off as well. I always thought that a Call of Duty game set with an original modern storyline would be great. Nice to know that it worked. <33
Good night, peeps, try not to get an ulcer from all of this new information. :)
@sonicfan:
We first found out about WereSonic directly from SEGA, not some magazine scan that no one seems to know anything about.
But yeah, I guess I should calm down and see what this game actually has to offer should it turn out to be real.
U go to bed at 7:00? or figure of speech? where i am its 6:04!
David Legget ,have you ever thought that SEGA might actually be using the Hedgehog engine for Wii and PS2? Like, SEGA said there will be no online or multiplayer modes of any kind, right? Maybe SEGA is doing the same thing but with the Hedgehog engine. What do you think about my opinion?
I got this comment from EdwardoMario16 at the GameFAQS board. He also made up a good point:
“Now that I’m over the shock, It’s time to discuss the game.
S&tBK must be the spiritual sequel to Secret Rings with the whole concept of Sonic exploring a popular fairytale book world. In Secret Rings it was Arabian Knights. This one must be the whole “King Arthur and the Round Table” bit. You know, the Holy Grail, Camelot, Excalibur, that stuff.”
So is this a possible sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings? ^^
@sonicfan: “S&tBK must be the spiritual sequel to Secret Rings with the whole concept of Sonic exploring a popular fairytale book world. In Secret Rings it was Arabian Knights. This one must be the whole “King Arthur and the Round Table” bit. You know, the Holy Grail, Camelot, Excalibur, that stuff.”
It may be cliche, but I actually like the sound of that.
a sonic with a sword…sounds interesting…not as interesting as a were-wolf sonic though :) I’m hoping the mag is a fake though…just cuz…well…why would sonic need a sword anyways??
¡¡¡Sonic and the dark knight!!!!!!!
http://www.sonicstadium.org/files/posts/2008/07/wtf1.jpg
Oh god…
to sum it up:
Pros:
- like some here said, you don’t photoshop a whole magazine cover just for a hoax. Too much work.
- the character render looks quite real (to me at least), the pose, the glove and the sword acutally fit quite good together (artistically I mean). The way he’s laid out on the page isn’t that great, but magazines do that sometimes.
Cons:
- The work might be worth it, seeing the reaction of the fanbase right now. Hell, there’s even already a wikipedia of it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_and_the_Black_Knight
- And why didn’t that guy just OPEN the damn magazine and take pictures of THE ARTICLE ITSELF?
…oh well, time for bed (it’s 1:43 am here xD). I might warm up to this title once… might… a little bit…
It’d be better if it ere rocket knight. revive him sega! pleeeeez
I still find it suspicious. Yeah, magazines do get exclusives. But there is usually some buzz, some sort of rumor. I wouldn’t know about Wolfenstein, shooters mean nothing to me. But speaking of Sega, they are not good with hiding anything. Maybe I’m wrong and magazines do get stories before the internet, but it seems unlikely with printing times. I’m never really surprised anymore when I read them, anyway. Plus, it makes no business sense. Three Sonic games in development at once? It’s not very logical.
I wouldn’t mind if it was true really, as a sequal to S&TSR it would be a seperate development team with a seperate series. It’s worked before with other game series, why not Sonic? Sonic Unleashed is the “real” game, but Secret Rings is a fan favorite of many. Including journalists, oddly.
But I refuse to believe this until it’s PROVEN with multiple scans or actual official information. The cover is irrelevent to me, it just makes no logical sense to announce this at this time in this way. But it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been wrong. Either way, I have seen A LOT of cover fakes that looked great…
Those review impressions I read got me pretty pissed off at what there saying about Sonic Unleashed. They say the daytime levels are awesome but not alot of detail and than they say the werehog levels are stupid. There saying 50% of the game is classic and the other 50% is BS. The game not even out yet and there already saying shit about the game. I say forget does jacka$$’s and let’s just see what we think of the game. Once the game comes out and they hear the game was the best 3D Sonic game ever, there going to feel like a bunch a jacka$$’s.
OH!!! in japan, sonic unleashed is called: Sonic World Adventure, But, here in Tennesssee, it’s called: Sonic Unleashed. In sonic unleashed, will we exspore the city?
im new here but a total sonic fan dudes
@Aubrey: Short answer, Yes.
@Aubrey: The city of tenessee?
