We had a few people submit this yesterday (both in comments and email), but it looks like ENVY16 from SSMB was the first to get their hands on the latest issue of GamesMaster. Nothing new jumps out at us, but something worth noting is that Sonic Unleashed definitely impressed the folks at GM.
How Much?
Well, enough for them to give it a rating of 5 on the Most Wanted Scale. Their only complaints about the game was the lack of multiplayer and online leaderboards (which I have a feeling may be more of an assumption the way they stated it). At any rate, if you’d like to read their impressions catch the scans below!

Man this is awsome. I hope this game could be compared to SA2 or maybe SA1.
Hey admin have you also notice the whistling in the Werehog trailer, that it sounds like angel island in Sonic 3. I found out about this, a few months ago back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o55cdoKRBNk
To here it combined go to 1:38
PS. sorry for grammar
I pray that it is as good as SA and SA2, i love them
Looks like nearly every magazine is getting hyped about this game.
On a side note, a while back, ONM said Sonic Unleashed would appear in there August issue. (Even though it says September on the spine.) It’ll be the next issue, I’ll try and pick it up if I can to check when it comes out.
Sonic games have an amazing ability to gather an amazing amount of hype for some reason.
Even Sonic 06 and the early videos(trailer) looked so amazing. I remember seeing speedruns from Crisis City.
Sonic Unleashed… whether this game is good, or bad, it may sell well.
wow. 5/5 pretty sweet!
@okay: crisis city is my favourite because its one of the few where you actually get to run fast. But i didnt like the speedrun in it, jumping is a nightmare!
I never saw any pre-release trailers for sonic 06 (hadnt discovered the net) but i bet they looked great which gave viewers a false impression on the gameplay. But i just cant see this game being bad! it looks excellent!!!
‘endless possibilities’ was great!
@okay: Sonic games gather so much hype because there was a time when SEGA could blow us all away - which was back on Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure 2 - and everybody knows that they can do it again. They just don’t know when, so they gather their hopes up.
I’d consider most Sonic fans to be the best fans in the world because they’ll never give up hoping. But somehow, other people say the franchise is dead, Sonic is a ***, it’s Dr Robotnik and not Eggman, Shadow is a worthless emo who ruined the games because he just keeps whining and other ****.
One thing that I don’t understand about the article is that they’re criticising the Shadow the Hedgehog when they talk about realism gone wrong! Shadow wasn’t made to look real at all; it was made to exercise a new gameplay mechanic. I think they’re trying to say Sonic ‘06, but just don’t have the guts to mention that game anymore in case SEGA accuses them of connecting the two games.
hey that vitality meter for the werehog isnt like in prince of persia 2 is it. when the prince went bad you have to destroy monsters to get ‘vitality’ or else you die. I didnt like that much, it put the pressure on. But that sounds pretty much like the werehogs vitality.
p.s whats the sonic stomp mentioned in the article?
maybe…. at the final boss sonic could be a super werewolf or even hyper sonic!! woohoo!
Using the hedgehog engine, I’d like Sega to take 4 levels each from Sonic Adventure 1, 2, and Sonic 06 and release it as an Xbox Live Arcade/Playstation Network game.
Something like what recent Mario Kart games do.
Well, at least there Wii pics up there. But none of them are new -.-
@TailstheHedgehog:
Go watch the High Europe Trailer, and skip to 1:28. You’ll see Sonic perform a stomp then.
That last scan has an awesome picture!
This is my first post here so hello sonic fans!
@Sinister96: uggh please no superwerehog. That sounds aweful
hmmm i dunno a superwerehog does sound pretty cool
I my opinion the super werehog idea is really unoriginal and lazy.. it’s like giving every character in the games a super form.. just no.
@Chaos Blast: thankyou, I found it. Its like a quick way of dropping down to earth…like the bounce in sonic 06..except you dont bounce lol
@TailstheHedgehog: It’s gunna happen. Guaranteed.
SEGA is making Sonic U as a movie.
The next Sonic Adventure.
If they don’t have a Super Were-Sonic in sonic unleashed, it will definitely be in Sonic Unleashed 2.
and there WONT be a 2. Bottom Line.
In This Picture it says Sonic was created from A ROTTEN EGG AND RUNNING SHOES WDF?
ALSO In This Picture in the 29-Hit combo picture it says “Defence” instead of “Defense”
Not a very potent video game magazine lol
@TailstheHedgehog:
No Problem and That’s what I thought too, one of those moves that can shave seconds off your time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reminds me of that time I was playing SRA, I was doing a timed mission, and I was really running out of time, so I blasted through the last part of the level and finished, with 43 MILLISECONDS left on the clock!
omg this game would be perfect if it had multiplayer!!!
@ shadow:
There were many references to multiplayer but Sega said Single Player experience only.
why…………….?
why the sega didnt put the hedgehog engine on wii and ps2?
what is the reason for that?
it would be so much realistic and gorgeous…….-.
@Chaos Blast: close one
ive been meaning to get that game for ages
@Nano:
Because the Wii and PS2 can’t handle the Hedgehog Engine. Where have you been?
@Michal Shipman:i take a vacation.only for a couple of days
by the way…………you are right the ps2 and wii cant handle hegehog engine so there is nothing they can do…….
hey multitude go to:
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste...
thhis inst about sonic unleashed but it is something i dindt know about
sonic CD
Well well well. Just when I thought Sonic Rush Adventure would be the best Sonic game so far, there’s a chance that Sonic Unleashed could temporarily knock it out of the spotlight. Lol even GameMaster says that the Werehog gameplay is similar to The Legend of Zelda. XD
Ahh, damn Nintendo and their lack of a hard drive for the Wii…
But seriously? 5/5? While I am happy about this, it seems a little too suspicious for me… Like, the Sonic Franchise is trying to come out of a horrible stage, then GameMaster here gives it a 5/5? I mean, 4/5 I could deal with, but I think that the perfect score might just add to the unnecessary hype it already has! *shot*… But whatever, I’m still getting this for the 360, so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining… XD
Though I am liking a lot of the things that they’ve shown already, I’m looking forward to high-speed antics with Sonic and down to earth platforming with the WereHog!
@Aregulardude: Personally, I don’t think SEGA will be able to redeem themselves (for lack of a better way of putting it) in just one title. The names “Sega” and “Sonic” were once very powerful names. Over the years, it seems to me that they’ve lost a lot of trust in their core-gamer market, and trust is much more easily lost than gained.
For me, and perhaps for GM, Sonic Unleashed is a step in the right direction again, and a step to earning some of our trust back in the company, and in the name Sonic. It may not put Sega back on its pedestal completely, but it’s still something a lot of us have been wanting for some time.
Isn’t were-sonic supposed to be Sonic with the negative energy of the chaos emeralds?
and if Super Sonic uses the positive energy, what happens when he use both? He will turn HYPER SONIC!!!
That would just complete the game for me!
think of a giant monster trapped at the center of the earth. If eggman went to all that trouble to release it, then it’s gotta be huge! like half the size of the earth. I bet at the end of the game, it comes out and you have a space battle as Hyper Sonic! Super Sonic is to slow to take that thing out. only Hyper Sonic can take out something as big as a planet!
hey Shadzter over at sonic stadium said that GamesMaster will have a review of the game in their october issue coming out August 27th and he said sonicstadium will also have a full unbiased review closer to release
and in the real Sonic franchise there is NO hyper sonic just supersonic who goes at the speed of light! thats 300,000 miles a second!
in any game, has super sonic gone the speed of light.
and what do you mean the REAL Sonic franchise?
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles WAS a real Sonic game.
sorry, I meant has Super Sonic ever gone the speed of light in any game.
cause you said supersonic would be too slow even thoughhe can go the speed of light
@TailstheHedgehog:
I have to agree. Super WereSonic is not a good idea.
@Spittingup: Super Sonic can go faster than normal Sonic, but nowhere near light speed.
Super Werehog could not be possible anyway. I think Sonic goes Werehog when he absorbs the negative power of the emeralds, and Super when he absorbs the positive. I think… Though he could absorb both at the same time, but that’s highly unlikely. Sonic can only tap into the positive energy. (He went dark in Sonic X because of the faulty chaos energy from the fake emeralds.)
@KCross: Defence is the same word, just an alternate spelling.
And to Eggy Origins, that was true in the Fleetway comic, which is only one sonic comic and NOT CANON. I wish publishers would stop treating it as such.
“DID YOU KNOW?
Sonic came about thanks to an accident involving the Chaos Emeralds, a pair of high-tech trainers, Dr Kintobor (later Robotnik) a treadmill and a rotten egg!”
Does that only applies to the UK Sonic comics when Sonic got his super speed and Robotnik turned evil?
@WOWZ: Not exactly.
Before Fleetway even used that origin, there was Disney Adventures: a magazine.
There, Sonic made his first appearance ever, even before his first game! That issue had a comic with Sonic which was a promo to the game that came out later.
Check this out!
http://archive.sonic-hq.net/newsite/comics/images/first.php
@Kev: Yes there is a such thing as hyper sonic, from sonic 3 and knuckles, I can’t believe that any sonic fan wouldn’t know that. And no, super sonic can NOT go the speed of light. In SA1 Tikal says that you have to turn into a bolt of lightning to hurt chaos, if that was true then in the 10 or so seconds it takes to get to perfect chaos you would have gone around the world 70 times. No offense but we all need a heaping helping of the truth sometimes
@Kev: Oh, and the speed of light is 300,000 KILOMETERS a second, and 183,000 miles a second look it up.
@Sonication: Heh, funny. I actually just approved that link in our User Submitted Links area
@Max: To extend on that, the speed of sound is 330 meters per second, or 761.6 miles per hour.
Super Sonic can travel at Mach 2 or 3. That is about twice or thrice the speed of sound itself.
@Sonication: Yep. Too bad sonic can’t go the speed of sound in the games like in the comics, Sonic has gotten kinda slow
@David Leggett:
What? You have?
@Max: I agree. Even though the Sonic Boost allows Sonic to go at 300 MPH, that is still not the speed of sound.
Well, this IS within the games limits.
@Sonication: Yeah, actually scheduled to go up in about 5 minutes.
@David Leggett: Cool!
BTW, I may submit another link that’s a video. Just to let you know.
@Max: oh sorry i didnt know that he went hyper sonic in sonic the hedgehog 3 i cant know everything but thanks for letting me know but but uh… what’s the difference and how does he go hyper sonic? cause i didnt really play sonic 3
@David Leggett: Hey david i found this video of the gameplay in sonic unleashed we saw at gamespot.com but the quality is a little better and you can hear the china level song here you are: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/246983.html
@Kev:
Here is how Hyper Sonic Functioned:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc5sG3lQeP4
I mean at Max, not at Kev.
@Sonication: hey thanks now i see the difference before i thought that was always hyper sonic my bad
@Kev: You’re welcome!
In the game, Hyper Sonic was much faster than super sonic, could jump higher, and could destroy every enemy on the screen with what looked like an early version the homing attack. He became hyper when he used the super emeralds.”More powerful versions of the Chaos emeralds which don’t exist anymore”
@Kev:
Oooh, China song is HIP! 8D
@Sonication:
Sonic boosts at 300 MPH.
The question is, could you control him if he went at Mach Speed? Would it be too fast?
i’l gues that the whole gaming comunity is watching SONIC World Adventure which is automaticly forming the hype around the game.
hey Admin,
check this out ! http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/sonicunleashed/media.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=tabs&tag=tabs;videos
3 new Sonic Unleashed gameplay videos from gamespot
@Kev: I wasn’t trying to sound mean, Sorry. I was just in a bad mood.
wow that’s great
keep it goin Sega ^_^
@Sonication: Sonic 3 And knuckles is my fav game. I’ve been playing it ever since mega collection came out.
@Max: My favorite as well.
And I definitely loved Hyper Sonic!
I don’t think if they brought him back, people would get seizures from watching him.
@blu_7: Oh god, If I have to listen to that voice every time I switch rails, I think my ears will bleed!
“YeAh!”
“YeAh!”
“YeAh!”
“YeAh!”
“YeAh!”
“YeAh!”
Most respectable gaming magazines so far seem to be pumped for this. You’d better stay pumped, ya bozos!
@TailstheHedgehog: Yes, that High Speed area was the worse part of the game. Made the rest of the game a pleasantly tolerable experience in comparision. *gets Tails Skypatrol flashbacks* uh…uh…*shudders*…at least you could collect rings in the High Speed Areas…?
@Kev and @blu_7: : Ooo, thanks for getting the link to us! Looky looky~
@Sonication: Close, but no chili dog!
That was one of Sonic’s first appearances, but THE first appearance was in 1990, a year before the release of Sonic 1…on a tour bus of the band Dreams Come True, one member of whom did the music for the early Sonic games and did Sweet Sweet Sweet, the ending theme for Sonic 2 (which was remixed along with its English version Sweet Dreams by Akon for Sonic ‘06). SEGA sponsored their tour.
@iNAUDiBLE:
Oh.
But about those game magazines,
I bet Gameinformer, Kotaku, and that X Play show are not hyped about it.
@Sonication: yeah they seem kinda anti sonic like X play stated sonic in FRANCHISES that must DIE
@Kev: They are only repeating what most comments on the franchise as a whole say. Let’s face it, nobody really likes Sonic anymore. The general suggestion is either ‘make 16-bit 2D games exactly like the original games’ or ‘kill Sonic’.
I think most people who suggest the former forget that SEGA are trying to sell to a drastically different group of people these days. I mean, the first Sonic games actually frustrate me because they’re tricky to control, moreso than the 3D ones in my opinion. People who suggest the latter are talking just a little more sensibly: if it completely fails, guys, you might not want to risk it anymore.
@Spittingup:
Okay, this stupid “voice bashing” is more annoying than anything.
That “woah” sound is almost identical to when Sonic is launched in the beginning of SA1’s Sky Deck Zone.
Unless you want to nitpick of course. Seriously, if it bothers you that much, then you must have a problem with atleast 3/4 the Disney and Nick cartoons out there. Infact… as far as I am concerned, Sonic has always sounded the same.
Anyone heard of the “Sonic used to be brown” story? And how he turned blue when he reaches Sonic speed for the first time while running on a treadmill?(It was in a comic- Sonic The Story) How can that be real when SEGA officially stated a while back:
“Sonic was born with the ability to run fast.”
Also it doesn’t mention this in the Sonic 1 Inustruction Manual.
Could someone clear that up for me?
@Spittingup:
OH… I’M SO SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME!
I didn’t mean it… you are absolutely correct. It could get a bit annoying with Sonic keep saying
“YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!”
Spittingup, I am giving you $500, and my Xbox 360 as a token of my apology. He probably shouldn’t say something like “yeAH” everytime he skips a rail…. maybe after something rare like a trick.
I am buying Sonic Unleashed for free to you. I want David Leggette to delete my other post quickly… PLEASE!
@Kev:
This game seems like a possible success, so it would be good if X Play and the like do not give this game a bad review.
@Sonic Rider: That old comic, I believe, was written by a French guy and published in England. It was made when nothing was clear and Sonic was just some mutant guy with freak speed.
Each region, basically, had its own story. The comics also had their own universes (eg, the US comic placed Sonic in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world with his own chipmunk/squirrell/whatever princess Sally, while an early manga had Sonic as a regular boy named Nicky Parlouzer who had a girlfriend in his lady friend Amy). With all these ‘canon’ stories, the confusion all piled up as regional versions began being revealed over the Internet.
Eventually, the original Japanese version was settled on for the games, although it’s never too obvious exactly what Sonic’s world is like. I believe it’s five hundred years from now on another planet that was colonised by humans after the discovery of a sort of time capsule from that planet. That would explain the varied settings, from impossibly-crafted forests to regular cities and towns.
But SEGA insist that it’s Earth, somewhere in the later twenty-first century.
Basically, localisation teams were really bad. Dr Eggman was either Dr Robotnik or Dr Zachary in Europe and America.
@Sonication: I’d never heard of hyper sonic!! Thanks for that link. But I think I like supersonic better though their pretty much the same
Yay! At least the game looks good to several magazine publishers
Jason Griffith fail Ryan drummond FTW!!!
@Umiyuri: THANKS!
Money isn’t important, besides, I’m already getting Unleashed when it comes out.
Nah… That’s okay…
@no: i’ll take the $500 if well your still giving it away…
Good
Hey guys (and girls) of Campsonic, sorry i havnt been here, i was on vacation with my friend. Did i miss anything important, notable, ect.?
@Sonication: That would be why you dont know me. But hello.
That’s good news ^^ Now haters will have to come back to loving Sonic all over again ^^ Oh boy, I can’t wait xD
cool camp sonic you rock where is the wii info
@Golden~Hedgy: That reminds me.
http://media.wii.ign.com/articles/896/896041/img_5791749.html
@Sonication: that’s kinda funny
@Kev: To be honest, I did not laugh, but I understood the joke itself.
@WiiFP: Not sure exactlyw long you’ve been gone for but if you missed E3 then you missed quite a lot. You can find most of it on the July round up update.
Main highlights: New trailer, demo shown.
@no: Its not the chaos emeralds that make angel island (knuckle’s island) fall. If the master emerald is removed from the island or it breaks the island falls. The other emeralds have nothing to do with it.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Sonic gets the master emerald back from Dr. Robotnik and puts it back on the island, then it starts to float again.
Sonic Adventure: The Island falls because the master emerald shatters when Chaos was released from it. Though I’m not sure why it falls a second time if Knuckles has the master emerald intact. But perivous titles show that it shouldn’t have anything to do with the chaos emeralds. maybe its because of Chaos or perhaps its because he has some of the emeralds, not all or none. I thought I knew, but I guess I don’t. it doesn’t seem to make much sense now that I’m trying to explain it, y’know.
@G&E: When it falls, Knuckles says that the chaos emeralds had something to do with it. I think that since chaos is part of the master emerald, that since he had been pulled out, he had the power to bring the island back to get the chaos emeralds. or maybe it’s the chaos emeralds trying to get to each other. by acting through the master emerald. but in SA2, knuckles said the master emerald had the power to stop the chaos emeralds. so I have no idea.
@Spittingup: good ideas, I didn’t think of some of those.
5/5 most wanted? wow…thats awsome!
seriously can’t wait for the game
one thing that bugged me though after watching the video from gamespot with the gameplay was the way Sonic said “yeah” when he was on the rails…oh well
I still love the game and I’m still buying it no matter what!!
Those kinds of repetitive quips always bother me more in videos than they do while playing the game…my mind tends to be focused on not dieing lol. But in videos, it’s something you definately notice. But it’s not exclusive to Sonic games…or even platformers.
The voice clips all sound like they’re from past games. Surely they would record new ones (Maybe with Ryan Drummond, hopefully?)…
Awesome! ^_^
href=”#comment-6082″>Moonshadow Caz: ha, thats exactly what I thought! i agree with you Crazee I dont normally listen to the grunts and yells during the game and just focus on the baddies and obstacles
@G&E:
The Sonic 3/Knuckles manual says that Robotnik tricks Knuckles into believing that Sonic & Tails are after the emeralds. How can that be true, when they had in the first place?
In the beginning of Sonic 3, you are already be Super Sonic. Why did Knuckles need to “defend” the emeralds from Sonic if he didn’t have them?
@no: The Doctor was actually talking about both the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald, but the localisation team decided to make it something slightly more familiar. And Knuckles?
Knuckles saw that they already had them and was all like, “You have my emeralds! That human was right! Give them back!” and then punched Sonic in the face, knocking them out of his grasp. Knuckles then ran off with them to put them back and continue guarding them while Sonic and Tails, thinking he was a thief, went after him.
The rest of the game is then a blur of traps and tricks as Knuckles keeps stopping Sonic and Tails from having a chance to explain while Eggman airlifts the Master Emerald out of there. Sonic and Knuckles reach an agreement and Sonic goes after Eggman while Knuckles has the Eggrobo to contend with.
Hope that explains the entire game. XP
@Umiyuri:
Wow, that makes complete sense.
@Umiyuri:
That makes complete sense. But I probably shouldn’t make this confusing.
@no: Thanks. I try. Sonic games aren’t easy to make sense out of, especially the ones without cutscenes, but when you finally get it it feels like you’ve accomplished something.
Of course, -then- you realise that you haven’t really and that you’re still frustrated over the first level of the game. I keep being caught by that one tree…
@Umiyuri:
Which Sonic game are you talking about, with the tree?
@no: Sonic 3. In the very first level, you run behind this tree and it grabs you with a bungee cord made out of circles. It’s very traumatic. I think Sonic clawed at the ground at one point… There’s also the fact that I have it on PC, so I can’t use Tails to fly on 2-Player without playing Finger Twister on the keyboard.
I love the adventure games!! I hope this game will somekind of a sonic adventure 4 feeling:P
oh, and btw….
I wanna ask a question…I really need to knowXD
Wikipedia said that the Wii version of sonic unleashed also will have a gamecube controler option…..is this true????
@HoggerTheHedgehog: Yep, it’ll be able to use the Gamecube controller, as explained in the scans above.
wow that was strange my last comment didnt do the @username thing, sorry bout that i must hav clicked something i meant
@Moonshadow Caz:
I often hear the grunts, yells and music more than most people, because I’m quite an auditory person. So they’re probably going to bother me in the game, Just like the voices in Sonic Heroes when you changed the Team Leader.
@Chaos Blast:
I forgot to mention, I think he says “Yeah!” every time you engage a boost. Which is going to be a lot. Oh Joy. XD
@Umiyuri: Um…
All you have to do is spin dash to get away from the tree…
@Chaos Blast: Yeah, I’m ok with Grunts every time you switch a rail, but the “YEAH!” anytime he does anything will be kind of annoying.
Also, Were-sonic doesn’t sound much like a werewolf.
I can’t imagine how dumb it’ll sound hearing Jason’s voice coming out of Were-sonic’s mouth when he roars. (when he fist transforms into were-sonic in the opening scene)
*Shivers*
this better not be like sonic the hedgehog next gen where it looked good at first but when it came out it sucked horribly
OMG THEY CALL HIM EGGMAN CUZ AN EGG TURNED HIM EVIL
WDF MY WORLD JUST TURNED UPSIDE DOWN
I THOUGHT THEY CALLED HIM EGG CUZ HE WAS SHAPED LIKE A EGG HAHA
DANG I WATCHED THE HISTORY OF SONIC THING THAT BLEW MY FREAKIN MIND LOL
IM DEFINITELY GETTING SONIC UNLEASHED NOW HAHA
and im glad sega tryin to bring sonic back WITH BLACK KNIGHT & stuff
hes all they got
LETS SUPPORT SEGA
LONG LIVE SONIC da FREAKIN HEDGEHOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Spittingup:
It might not be Jason himself roaring, they might use a digitally-created one. You never know, keep your hopes up.
@Chaos Blast: Hey if Jason can do Shadow then he can roar ok?
im JUST SAYIN.
if this game is anything like sa2 or sa2b, then it better have chao!! but even if it doesn’t, it’ll still be a cool game!!
@KC Cross: The rotten egg thing came from the British Fleetway comic… I dunno if there is really any one set origin story for Sonic, Eggman/Robotnik, etc. American Archie comics had a Dr. Kintobor story as well.
@Spittingup: Also Jason Griffith did Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes
He roared in that
it’ll prolly sound the same
@KC Cross:
Are you kidding?
@Spittingup: DAMN! I’m better at the plots and the artwork and the music then the games themselves… except Sonic Riders 1 & 2. Then I rock. XP
@KC Cross: Err… Ryan voiced Metal.
Anyway, they’ll most likely have gotten him to do the best roar he can (they probably all cracked up too) and then digitally modified it like Metal’s voice for Sonic Heroes. I doubt they’re going to use the Gojira roar this time, like they did for Perfect Chaos, Final Hazard and Metal Overlord.
They seem to like the idea of pitting Sonic against huge lizard things, don’t they?
@silver_the_hedgehog: Dude, SA2 and SA2B are the same game! The Gamecube version is more touched up and the controls are a bit weird for me, since I have the original Dreamcast version.
@KC Cross: Dude, chill. That’s Great Britain’s take on Sonic. It’s WAY different here in America.
@Spittingup: Yeah, I know. After I play through in English, I’m gonna play it in Japanese. Thank God for my brother getting the 360!
@Umiyuri: well they both sound the same
everyone needs to realize that the voice doesn’t make sonic
SONIC MAKES SONIC.
geez.
@KC Cross: But it keeps every extreme fan debating, lol.
On-Topic: This only confirms that Sonic Unleashed will be good, if not, great.
the best game ever
Have the newer games gotten this good previews?
Many sites/magazines seem to be really positive about this title..
@KC Cross: WORD! True, Sonic makes Sonic, not the Voice itself, its the Character, nothing else! He´s still blue, he´s still fast, he´s still Sonic … any other words? No? Just as I thought! *smiles*
@Rox: You forgot his personality. How dare you forget that?
@David Leggett: Right, there is no magical bullet. You have to get your cred back gradually, and it appears that SEGA is handling it that way. Also, SEGA/Sonic Team can’t just bend to the demands of one group, they have to put everybody into the equation. If they rebooted the series to just Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Eggman…and possibly Amy and just 16-bit gameplay, then that will get a LOAD of people upset. It’s always been “We’re going to make a game that tries to have a balance between all of the elements that Sonic fans love and attempt to introduce a new element for Sonic!” …now it seems to be “We’re going to make a game that tries to have a balance between all of the elements that Sonic fans love and attempt to introduce a new element for Sonic…and if they don’t like the latter and whine like little babies, that’s their problem. Can’t they be a bit more mature about it?”
Sonic Team has been introducing new gameplay elements since Sonic 2, and for some reason, people only started to get EXTREMELY aggravated about it when Sonic Heroes came out. The idea is to make said elements WORK. Fast paced swordplay and platforming could work. Speed based platforming gameplay and slower, fighting, exploration and precision platforming based gameplay balanced with each other could work. It depends on the time given for it and the work put into it.
@Sonication: X-Play was giving Sonic games somewhat decent reviews until they dedicated part of an episode to Shadow’s game and then in a later show actually reviewed the game… and gave him a 1 out of 5. It’s not really that big a deal, they usually end up giving the games that they focus more time on than other games worse scores when they actually get to them…the only real exception was God of War, I think. They gave Sonic and the Secret Rings one of the worse scores the game had, a 2 out of 5, and that was mostly because of the soundtrack. I think they called it…synth pop? It sure didn’t sound like synth-pop. I would’ve prefered all of the stage songs be instrumental, but Runblebee did a decent job of it.
@Umiyuri: Yeah, I think that the variety of different storylines that Sonic has been in has caused more of this division when it comes to Sonic…makes you wonder where the franchise would’ve been it it was more straightforward…
I think that the Earth that Sonic is in in the current century, but given a shot in the arm with much more advanced technology and much more fantastic locales…I mean, 50 or so years ago, we were just starting the space program, when in Sonic’s world, they had their own freakin’ space colony. The technology that was the basis for Extreme Gear had existed for thousands of years…not to mention the manipulation of Chaos energy for destructive weaponry, the mecha of Eggman and G.U.N and the alternative energy sources, like the energy that Eggman was using his robots to leech off of Megapolis (sp?) in Sonic Heroes. The Soleanna governments had the means to contain a freakin’ GOD and were planning experiments to facilitate time travel…then they actually did said experiments…and it didn’t end well. They just COULDN’T wait for the Little Planet to align and collect the Time Stones couldn’t they? XD
Somebody inform this bozo to quit taking it so freakin’ seriously, kthanxbai I sure hope I don’t end up like that anytime soon.
@Rox:
Here’s something I wish to show about the voices:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xHFLhykf7s
Sega can’t please everyone, so they try to please the majority, and even then people will still complain. I don’t think people give them much credit, because they’ve had a lot more hits in the past than the misses they’ve had recently. They’ve only had a couple not-so-good games, and even after Sonic ‘06 is given the title of “worst Sonic game”, SATSR and Sonic Rush 2 were great games. Sega’s still on its way back, a lot of people just haven’t noticed it yet.
@Lamb84: True, true, true.
@Kev: *spews Coca-Cola out of nose* Review of the game in Octobor? Will this thing be released SOONER? …Well, Werehog makes it the sort of game that could be released on the 31, but I’d rather them take their time.
…Unbiased review from The Sonic Stadium…uh, yeah, right, because they’re TOTALLY an unbiased news source these days.
GAH! GAH! My nostrils are burning. Soft drinks! Bad choice in liquid to spew out of your nostrils in surprise/shock! D:
The only problem about Jason is how fake he sounds. He is getting better at it.
I saw an episode of Chaotic once…
if you compare the voices of Sonic Riders ZG/Olimpic games with 06/Chaotic, you can tell he is getting better. The main problem was that Ryan already perfected Sonic’s voice, which is why people didn’t like the change.
They sound different…but until I went online, I never really noticed the voice changes lol.
Oh, and having an unbiased review isn’t TECHNICALLY possible. Bias affects everyone…we just like to pretend it doesn’t. That said, people can work against their bias by TRYING to favor what you’re biased against. Ergo…if you’re pessimistic…try to look for the positives as much as you can. That way, you’ve tried to check your bias. And vice-versa, as well.
Biased: I knew this game would suck, and I turned it off after 10 minutes. This is horrible! …..
Unbiased: I tried to like this game, but I couldn’t. etc etc
Even then, bias creeps in. Which is why the important thing about journalism is being informative, not opinionated. Give people enough information to decide if the purchase is worth it.
Actually, I’m ranting LOL. Everyone’s opinion is valuable, I’ll be reading lots of reviews. But you have to read between the lines, not just see “This is great!” or “This sucks” based on a number or letter grade.
@iNAUDiBLE: yeah Shadzter at Sonic Stadium said that GamesMaster’s next issue released August 27th will have a review of the game it’s gonna be their october issue but i dunno how they’re getting it this… early i was surprised too the game is definitely coming out November but let’s see what they think of the game after playing it themselves who know’s maybe they got a demo with a bunch of levels? and we might get a demo soon if it’s true
@Kev: They’re doing a review for the 360 and PS3 versions in October cuz the 360 and PS3 versions come out in October.
Here’s Proof:
360 version: http://videogames.yahoo.com/xbox360/sonic-unleashed/
PS3 version: http://videogames.yahoo.com/ps3/sonic-unleashed/
Now notice on the left of the two sites the realease dates.
metal sonic in heroes was an altered ryan and who care about jason now lets just listen to Junich spelling please
@Sonication: That video is the second most sensible rant in the entire Sonic community. Thank you for linking it, and thanks to the person who made it.
Am I getting sick of voice rants? Yes.
Jason is Sonic whether you guys like him or not. I personally do like him and I’m actually alright with most 4Kids censorship - they just do it to live up to their company name, and US censors on children’s television are notoriously difficult to get past. True, some of the localising of names is a bit dumb, but I like it when they preserve at least part of the name (Gary Oak’s name from ‘Shi-geru-’).
If you haven’t noticed, the games got many reviews that put down the SA voice cast. For example, SA2 has some alright voice direction for people who weren’t allowed to see the scenes they were dubbing, but when you put it to the sequence it actually sounds terrible. Hence why I tend to play the SA series in Japanese more than I play it in English.
Ryan was a good actor, but it’s been three or four years already. If they didn’t listen early on, they’re not gonna listen now. Jason is pretty comfortable where he is right now, so I doubt he wants to move even with all the complaining and whining fans do. Jason has a lot of fun doing this job, and enjoys every project he works on.
If people argue that fan-voices are better, you have to realise that Jason is actually a big fan of the Sonic games, so technically, he -is- a fan-voice. He just got hired. Which reminds me - if the fan-voices actually end up doing the job, they’re not fan-voices anymore. So people end up disliking them.
@Crazee:
I agree with your statement so much. Until I went online, I didn’t even know the voices changed. If you notice, when Sonic says “woahhhh” it sounds exactly the same. If I didn’t read internet posts, I probably wouldn’t of ever noticed that Sonic sounded “different.”
With that being said… I think some arguments are internet exclusive. The odds of running into a friend, or someone across the street that’d actually “complain” about Sonic’s voice is rare.
And Gamespot’s… original Sonic Adventure review… “the quirky voices keep you playing for a while.” The gamecube Sonic Adventure review… “awful voices….” But I know quite a bit of people that like Sonic games, and “voices” is the last thing they’d ever complain about.
Honestly, some of you must have serious problems with Disney or Nickeledeon. But the fact that EVERY and I mean EVERY Japanese cartoon series has people online complaining about voices, I actually found those complaints a bit useless. Regardless, they could say “this guy, should do that voice…” you find complaints somewhere else complaining about that “other” voice.
I am sick of the voice rants, but I think the majority of the complaints are online. Else, there’d be an onslaught of riots against Nickeledeon & Powerpuff Girls… in which… I’d find such complaints utterly ridiculous.
@Spittingup:
People complained about the voices since Sonic Adventure. I hope you realize that.
And about your comment on Jason sounding, “fake,” I’ll start off by stating how identical the voices sound to me, and confirm my idea that people like you must have a serious problems with most Nickelodeon and Disney cartoons.
@Spittingup:
IGN and GAMESPOT actually bashed the Sonic Adventure voices more than they do the Shadow the Hedgehog/Sonic 06 voices.
INFACT, since the 4kids voice change, some reviewers seem to bash less. Many other reviewers are UNAWARE there was a change in voices in the first place. IGN’s Sonic Riders confirms that by saying the voices are what you’d expect from a Sonic game.
Personally, I’m sick of the voice rants, and as I said before; some people must have serious problems with most Disney/Nick cartoons; judging by their words.
@no: Um…
Have you ever watched Chaotic?
and what do you mean PEOPLE LIKE YOU? Your saying you know exactly who I am and what I act like? You assume that just because I noticed the change in voices that I’m part of the APHVGCCV? the Association of People who Hate Video Game Characters and Cartoon Voices? I personally (like I said before) do not hate Jason’s voice for Sonic. It’s actually doing good.
Again, Chaotic. His voice is so fake it’s the only reason I sometimes watch it. It’s actually pretty funny.
and I don’t care about IGN or Gamespot. I will watch to see what X-play rates it. They don’t seem to rate any sonic games good.
@Crazee: Yeah…that is the sort of thing you have to put into consideration.
@Umiyuri: One of the things is that they tend to dub series from Japanese that are shonen…meant for middle schoolers. A bit more violent, meaning more edits are needed and when edits are needed, fanboys go RAWR. The series Dinosaur King was intended for a younger audience than those for regular shonen series in Japan, and didn’t need as much editing…so people had said that the dub for that series is more “faithful”.
Coincidentally, Dinosaur King is an anime based on a SEGA arcade machine that dispenses collectable dinosaur cards that you can put into the machine to have 3D battles against another kid’s dinosaur cards. They also have
