We had a few people submit this yesterday (both in comments and email), but it looks like ENVY16 from SSMB was the first to get their hands on the latest issue of GamesMaster. Nothing new jumps out at us, but something worth noting is that Sonic Unleashed definitely impressed the folks at GM.
How Much?
Well, enough for them to give it a rating of 5 on the Most Wanted Scale. Their only complaints about the game was the lack of multiplayer and online leaderboards (which I have a feeling may be more of an assumption the way they stated it). At any rate, if you’d like to read their impressions catch the scans below!

@Kev: They’re doing a review for the 360 and PS3 versions in October cuz the 360 and PS3 versions come out in October.
Here’s Proof:
360 version: http://videogames.yahoo.com/xbox360/sonic-unleashed/
PS3 version: http://videogames.yahoo.com/ps3/sonic-unleashed/
Now notice on the left of the two sites the realease dates.
@iNAUDiBLE: yeah Shadzter at Sonic Stadium said that GamesMaster’s next issue released August 27th will have a review of the game it’s gonna be their october issue but i dunno how they’re getting it this… early i was surprised too the game is definitely coming out November but let’s see what they think of the game after playing it themselves who know’s maybe they got a demo with a bunch of levels? and we might get a demo soon if it’s true
They sound different…but until I went online, I never really noticed the voice changes lol.
Oh, and having an unbiased review isn’t TECHNICALLY possible. Bias affects everyone…we just like to pretend it doesn’t. That said, people can work against their bias by TRYING to favor what you’re biased against. Ergo…if you’re pessimistic…try to look for the positives as much as you can. That way, you’ve tried to check your bias. And vice-versa, as well.
Biased: I knew this game would suck, and I turned it off after 10 minutes. This is horrible! …..
Unbiased: I tried to like this game, but I couldn’t. etc etc
Even then, bias creeps in. Which is why the important thing about journalism is being informative, not opinionated. Give people enough information to decide if the purchase is worth it.
Actually, I’m ranting LOL. Everyone’s opinion is valuable, I’ll be reading lots of reviews. But you have to read between the lines, not just see “This is great!” or “This sucks” based on a number or letter grade.
The only problem about Jason is how fake he sounds. He is getting better at it.
I saw an episode of Chaotic once…
if you compare the voices of Sonic Riders ZG/Olimpic games with 06/Chaotic, you can tell he is getting better. The main problem was that Ryan already perfected Sonic’s voice, which is why people didn’t like the change.
@Lamb84: True, true, true.
@Kev: *spews Coca-Cola out of nose* Review of the game in Octobor? Will this thing be released SOONER? …Well, Werehog makes it the sort of game that could be released on the 31, but I’d rather them take their time.
…Unbiased review from The Sonic Stadium…uh, yeah, right, because they’re TOTALLY an unbiased news source these days.
GAH! GAH! My nostrils are burning. Soft drinks! Bad choice in liquid to spew out of your nostrils in surprise/shock! D:
Sega can’t please everyone, so they try to please the majority, and even then people will still complain. I don’t think people give them much credit, because they’ve had a lot more hits in the past than the misses they’ve had recently. They’ve only had a couple not-so-good games, and even after Sonic ‘06 is given the title of “worst Sonic game”, SATSR and Sonic Rush 2 were great games. Sega’s still on its way back, a lot of people just haven’t noticed it yet.
@Rox:
Here’s something I wish to show about the voices:

@David Leggett: Right, there is no magical bullet. You have to get your cred back gradually, and it appears that SEGA is handling it that way. Also, SEGA/Sonic Team can’t just bend to the demands of one group, they have to put everybody into the equation. If they rebooted the series to just Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Eggman…and possibly Amy and just 16-bit gameplay, then that will get a LOAD of people upset. It’s always been “We’re going to make a game that tries to have a balance between all of the elements that Sonic fans love and attempt to introduce a new element for Sonic!” …now it seems to be “We’re going to make a game that tries to have a balance between all of the elements that Sonic fans love and attempt to introduce a new element for Sonic…and if they don’t like the latter and whine like little babies, that’s their problem. Can’t they be a bit more mature about it?”
Sonic Team has been introducing new gameplay elements since Sonic 2, and for some reason, people only started to get EXTREMELY aggravated about it when Sonic Heroes came out. The idea is to make said elements WORK. Fast paced swordplay and platforming could work. Speed based platforming gameplay and slower, fighting, exploration and precision platforming based gameplay balanced with each other could work. It depends on the time given for it and the work put into it.
@Sonication: X-Play was giving Sonic games somewhat decent reviews until they dedicated part of an episode to Shadow’s game and then in a later show actually reviewed the game… and gave him a 1 out of 5. It’s not really that big a deal, they usually end up giving the games that they focus more time on than other games worse scores when they actually get to them…the only real exception was God of War, I think. They gave Sonic and the Secret Rings one of the worse scores the game had, a 2 out of 5, and that was mostly because of the soundtrack. I think they called it…synth pop? It sure didn’t sound like synth-pop. I would’ve prefered all of the stage songs be instrumental, but Runblebee did a decent job of it.
@Umiyuri: Yeah, I think that the variety of different storylines that Sonic has been in has caused more of this division when it comes to Sonic…makes you wonder where the franchise would’ve been it it was more straightforward…
I think that the Earth that Sonic is in in the current century, but given a shot in the arm with much more advanced technology and much more fantastic locales…I mean, 50 or so years ago, we were just starting the space program, when in Sonic’s world, they had their own freakin’ space colony. The technology that was the basis for Extreme Gear had existed for thousands of years…not to mention the manipulation of Chaos energy for destructive weaponry, the mecha of Eggman and G.U.N and the alternative energy sources, like the energy that Eggman was using his robots to leech off of Megapolis (sp?) in Sonic Heroes. The Soleanna governments had the means to contain a freakin’ GOD and were planning experiments to facilitate time travel…then they actually did said experiments…and it didn’t end well. They just COULDN’T wait for the Little Planet to align and collect the Time Stones couldn’t they? XD
Somebody inform this bozo to quit taking it so freakin’ seriously, kthanxbai I sure hope I don’t end up like that anytime soon.
@Rox: You forgot his personality. How dare you forget that?
@KC Cross: WORD! True, Sonic makes Sonic, not the Voice itself, its the Character, nothing else! He´s still blue, he´s still fast, he´s still Sonic … any other words? No? Just as I thought! *smiles*
Have the newer games gotten this good previews?
Many sites/magazines seem to be really positive about this title..
the best game ever
@KC Cross: But it keeps every extreme fan debating, lol.
On-Topic: This only confirms that Sonic Unleashed will be good, if not, great.
@Umiyuri: well they both sound the same
everyone needs to realize that the voice doesn’t make sonic
SONIC MAKES SONIC.
geez.
@Spittingup: Yeah, I know. After I play through in English, I’m gonna play it in Japanese. Thank God for my brother getting the 360!
@KC Cross: Dude, chill. That’s Great Britain’s take on Sonic. It’s WAY different here in America.
@silver_the_hedgehog: Dude, SA2 and SA2B are the same game! The Gamecube version is more touched up and the controls are a bit weird for me, since I have the original Dreamcast version.
@Spittingup: DAMN! I’m better at the plots and the artwork and the music then the games themselves… except Sonic Riders 1 & 2. Then I rock. XP
@KC Cross: Err… Ryan voiced Metal.
Anyway, they’ll most likely have gotten him to do the best roar he can (they probably all cracked up too) and then digitally modified it like Metal’s voice for Sonic Heroes. I doubt they’re going to use the Gojira roar this time, like they did for Perfect Chaos, Final Hazard and Metal Overlord.
They seem to like the idea of pitting Sonic against huge lizard things, don’t they?
@KC Cross:
Are you kidding?
@Spittingup: Also Jason Griffith did Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes
He roared in that
it’ll prolly sound the same
