New Feature: User Submitted Links
A few days ago, we hinted at a possibility of some new features around Camp Sonic – features which would help integrate our community deeper into the greater Sonic community. The first of those features which recently launched is none other than our “User Submitted Links“.
User Submitted Links is our way of allowing everyday viewers of Camp Sonic to share their discoveries far and wide, as well as our personal way of giving back to the Sonic Community. There are A LOT of awesome sites and resources out there that go by unseen do to the fact that it can be hard to break into the Sonic Community. With User Submitted Links we’re giving new faces a way to help promote their sites – while at the same time giving readers here a constant flow of enjoyable reading material & media.
It’s very simple. Anyone can Submit a Link (URL, Title, Short Description) which will immediately go into a moderation queue. Once approved, that link will wait in line to be shared with our viewers on every page of Camp Sonic for at least 24 hours.
This provides a wonderful new way to distribute Sonic & SEGA related content from around the web, and also allows webmasters who can’t afford advertising to easily promote interesting content on their sites. There is no link-back required, no registration, heck – we don’t even ask for an email address. The only thing we do ask is that you take care to only submit High Quality content which our readers will enjoy. You know, things like:
- Sonic related articles, links, videos, music, art.
- SEGA related articles, links, videos, etc.
- Please link to the specific article rather than a homepage.
- If linking to a Forum post, please use the specific post’s permalink.
- Anything else the SONIC community may find interesting!
On a final note, I hope that you’ll all keep an eye on the user submitted links as they roll in. You can find them in the right menu, currently under the “Recently Discussed” block. We’ll try to update it with awesome content every 2 hours or so, that way there’s always something new to see!

@TailstheHedgehog: Ya, i wouldnt be able to take him serious if his name were Mr. Needlemouse. Maybe if it were Needle for short, but still. It doesnt fit.
I doubt that Sega was ever considering “Mr. Needlemouse” as final name for Sonic. As codename maybe. You see, the Japanese word for “hedgehog” is “harinezumi” which literally means “needlemouse” (hari = needle, nezumi = mouse). Nothing special to it.
@Needlemouse: Ya, its was a name at the very beginning when they were first designing Sonic. It was a codename, dubbed by Naoto Ōshima.
Very nice. I am just going to assume that this makes things more easier for us to get information. Pretty cool :)
personally i think olgiville maurice is a stupid name i’m glad they chose sonic also that stuff aint even true cause sonic is sonic it’s a waste of time to debate about it mr needlemouse doesnt sound that great either. but hey that’s just my opinion so no one take it to heart or anything
@Kev: Ha, pretty much agreed for that matter. I would take Sonic over Olgiville Maurice anyday.

Links get moderated pretty quickly, but in an effort to give each link a fair amount of time, we post the next link in “line” every 2-3 hours.
That way, every link has at least a full day on the front page ;)
Hey everyone guess what! I was just looking at the user submitted link, sonic x character reviews and if u go to hme page it sais season 4 may be in the making. Thats fantastic! I’m gonna go find out more!

1. ‘Needle-mouse’ would be an accurate translation of ‘hari-nezumi’, which is the word for hedgehog. So, you basically saying Mr Hedgehog. Which proves his last name was Hedgehog in the design stages at least. Nowadays, I think he’d object to being called a ‘Mr’ because it makes him sound out. Then somebody asks him if he means ‘don’t call me Mr, that’s my father’s name’ and he goes, “I have a father!?”
2. ‘The’ is indeed registered as Sonic’s middle name. As it is for a majority of the characters. Amy and Tails escape this.
3. Nearly every anthropomorphic Sonic character’s shoes are mainly red or a warm colour (pink, purple, brown, yellow or orange). Mephiles is the only anthropomorph not to have any of these colours on his shoes.
In other news, Knuckles Facts!:
1. Knuckles is a ‘hari-mogura’ – a ‘needle-mole’, explaining why he was translated as a mole in the movie.
2. He was originally designed to be Rastafarian and they considered a Jamaican accent in the English Sonic Adventure translation.
3. It’s thought the symbol on his chest, which is actually called a ‘lace’, was a nod to Nike.
4. If you saw Knuckles in real life, huge chances are that his nose and mouth would be the same – as is the state of a real echidna. They also have dark snouts that almost resemble the straw-like ones of butterflies.
5. And Knuckles calls Rouge ‘bat-woman’ in Japan.

Umiyuri, you are an unusually wise Sonic fan. You should stay here to atleast speak your opinion of Sonic Unleashed (under the same name) when the game comes out.
Or… atleast until the Tokyo Game Show… which i think is in September.
@Umiyuri: awesome list! jeez, imagine knuckles with a jamaican accent lol Looks like they kept an element of rastafarian in him with the quick temper and dreadlocks. Didnt rastafarians also paint themselves a reddish colour? maybe thats where his red coat comes from. Or it could just symbolise and underline his aggression and ‘dont muck with it’ attitude.

i have been worried about sonic unleashed lately…………………
its about the of the shade of the characters it seems that on wii and probably on ps2 the shade of sonic isnt developed.it doesnt has any form on sonic´s shade.this could be serious because on sonic adventure 2 battle (that was on nintendo gamecube) the shade of the characters are developed and on nintendo wii(the best console for nintendo yet……)the shade is not developed.

Sonic (red+white (shoes)+blue: colours of many flags)
Eggman (red: ‘red and blue’ are considered opposities)
Tails (orange: opposite of blue) (Tails gradually got lighter and turned yellow)
Amy: (pink: girl’s colour)
Knuckles: (red: ‘red-yellow-blue’ are primary colours)
Chaotix (green+purple+yellow/orange: secondary colours)
Bark & Bean (cream+green: typical colours of polar bear and mallard)
Shadow (black+red: dark, evil colours)
Rouge (white: contrast to black)
Cream (orange+beige: name pun)
Blaze (purple+pink+white (shoes): feminine equivalent of Sonic’s colour scheme)
Silver (grey: ran out of colours)

@TailstheHedgehog: The pair from Sonic the Fighters. Bark and Bean now appear in the US comic book. Bark is one of those big cool guy types and Bean is psychotic (when he gets taken away, he promises Sonic that he’ll write every day).

@KC Cross: They did forget quite a few names and get some reasons wrong. There’s also a few things that they miss out.
Sonic: ’sonus’ is the Latin word for sound, while ’sonic’ is the derivitive and means ‘relating to sound’ in English. Sonic the Hedgehog travels at the speed of sound, which is somewhere around 1220kmph. The term could also refer to him being loud when he breaks the sound barrier, or his loud personality, heh, heh.
Amy: Amy’s name most likely refers to her and Sonic’s ‘romance’ the manga she originally appeared in rather then her love from her fans. A rose is a sweet flower related to romance – ‘a loved rose’?
Shadow: His name is more likely to mean how he isn’t totally evil.
Vector: the actual reason given by SEGA is that Vector was named because he was able to ‘air-dash’ in all eight directions.
Charmy: ‘charm’ is the power to attract and delight people, much like a flower.
Cream and co.: Cream cheese is a popular desert topping, and vanilla extract and chocolate are substances often used as flavours.
Iblis: Iblis is the ancient devil in Arabian mythology. It makes sense, then, why Erazor Djinn would call Iblis’ name while summoning that games Ifrit (fire genie).
Maria: The name ‘Maria’ means ‘beautiful flower’ in Spanish and ‘loved by God’ in Italian. It is another form of Mary, who was the mother of Jesus Christ.
Robotnik: ‘robotnik’ is Russian for worker or slave. It was most likely picked because Eggman made robot slaves, and because the US has a strong hatred of communism, in the best, most stable cases of which the workers rule the country.
Elise: French for ‘Oath of God’.
Pachacamac: Pachacamac is a temple in Peru, named for the god Pacha Kamaq of the people who lived in Peru before the Inca came.

Jet, Wave and Storm: A terribly blustery day, a giant wave of water(a tsunami) and a thunderstorm – are all visions of poor weather.
Marine: Probably from her owning of a boat and love of the water, and also to act as a counterpart to ‘Blaze’ (fire and water).
