I’m joking of course, I couldn’t handle this job without so many alert viewers here. Works been pretty insane lately, and I’m also busy looking at houses right now (my box in the alley just isn’t as roomy as it once seemed), so this update’s coming a bit late.
STORM! over at the Sega Nerds Forum posted some new Sonic Unleashed Wii Screenshots and Manga (revealing what many are already speculating to be a new character) which have got folks all worked up. If you want my opinion, it’s not much - and all this attention is unwarranted - but hey, that’s just my take. I’ll be much more thrilled when I see some actual comparitive shots between the Wii platform, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.

@Umiyuri: True. New characters are quite interesting, but I’d also love more detail with the older characters as well. Like, comparing Amy in Sonic Adventure with how she was in Sonic ‘06…I would’ve liked the growth she had in the original Sonic Adventure to have applied a bit more to her character in the games afterword, but she appears to have…digressed. Since the game was intended to be an Adventure series game, I hope they don’t over look that.
Yes, that in of itself its true. I personally hope that the way the manga-ka drew the ice cream man was his own style and not the style for the humans that will be used in the game…the magazines say that in the game, the style for the humans is like Pixar…but the style used in the comic bares almost no resemblance and looks a sight worse! Yet again…things haven’t been confirmed, but I’m a tad worried about that…
@iNAUDiBLE: True. Chip could be non-canon (made up by the manga-ka) or he could only appear in a single level in the game.
I think it’s actually a slightly better thing that there’s a new character every game. It lets the designers go nuts, which you want them to. I mean, that’s what they’re paid for. XP Plus, if you just had Sonic, Tails and Eggman in every single game, you’d have run out of plotlines… sixteen years ago? A new character brings a new personality to the cast, a new story can be made around them. The Sonic world becomes richer.
It’s also more reassuring to see all those Mobians. Sonic looks less unusual in his world if he has more members of his species there.
@Frog: I apologize again for jumping the gun on it. I personally prefer…the neutral view point when it comes to upcoming Sonic games as well…I had it for Sonic ‘06, and while the game wasn’t really all that good, I didn’t take it nearly as bad as everybody else did.
But, yet again, this character has NOT been confirmed to be in the game. No screenshots with him, no footage of him…just a promotional manga. And considering that most Sonic tie-in media have not actually “tied in” with the games, him being a manga-exclusive character seems to be the case. However, he hasn’t been confirmed NOT to be in the game, so I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. I also take that diagram into question regarding the new characters…EVERY major Sonic title since Sonic 2 has introduced a new character into the franchise. Most every form of entertainment media, like TV shows and comic books and video games, introduce new characters into the mix, whether they’re new main characters, recurring character who will pop in and out from time to time, and one shot characters, which appear one time and never appear again. Most people tend to complain about the quality of the characters (if they’re needlessly annoying, if they’re deriviate, if they’re acting OOC for no apparent reason), but I haven’t heard of quantity being an issue until I got into the Sonic series. I agree, they need to cut back on the characters and try to focus on the ones they have…but if they introduce a new character that is interesting, isn’t one dimensional and doesn’t come off like every other lame-o Sonic fancharacter, I’ll attempt to tolerate it the best I can. Chip…well, the character design is different and he’s quite the energetic guy…but he isn’t as irritating as Charmy…much…and he speaks in the first person. I think I might end up liking him if he does end up in the game. But then again, that’s my opinion. You’re allowed to yours, and I apologize for disrespecting yours and for my abuse of caps lock.
@iNAUDiBLE: Let me put forth a few things; I hope that this game is great. It looks great so far. It’s just that so far it’s also held true to that cycle. I hope it does better, but I prefer a yahtzee-esque point of view on things: if you don’t get into the pre-release hype about a game it will seem way better if it’s good, and if it’s bad there’s no appointment because that’s what you expected. Also, be more conservative in your use of Capital letters.

I said small and blurry and touched up with Photoshop. The real screens are what you saw in Nintendo Power. Except the Sonic Model, I think that was improved in these screens.
@Chosenoneknuckles: it is coming out this year. a guy at gamespot handed me a binder for the new wii games coming out this year and sonic unleashed was on it. the date said Nov. 4. hope that cleared your mind.
@Lan: Well, a lot of people are complaining because they think that the Sonic Channel blog says so…but the person who said that has admitted before that her English isn’t all too good. She also said that Chip had lost his memory, but the rough translation of the comic by KIRBY that was posted by flash looks like he’s searching for the perfect ice cream rather than his memory…oh, and to find out more about the shrine/temple too! XD
Sonic Channel DID announce the manga with the new character, but I don’t think they really said that Chip would be in it. Even my lame Google Translation didn’t give me any bizarre translation that could be thought to mean “this character is in the game!” just things along the lines of”This Sonic World Adventure manga introduces a new character!” Which would mean different things to different people…I’m thinking more that it is a manga character.
The only game that the Archie characters were in was Sonic Spinball, the…Genesis version…and AoSTH characters were in Doctor Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. But those were spin-offs, so they don’t count.

Who really thinks Chip will be in the game just because of the manga?
We could say Sally, Rotor, Bunnie, Antoine, and etc would be in the games because they were in the comic adaptations. >_>
