I’m joking of course, I couldn’t handle this job without so many alert viewers here. Works been pretty insane lately, and I’m also busy looking at houses right now (my box in the alley just isn’t as roomy as it once seemed), so this update’s coming a bit late.
STORM! over at the Sega Nerds Forum posted some new Sonic Unleashed Wii Screenshots and Manga (revealing what many are already speculating to be a new character) which have got folks all worked up. If you want my opinion, it’s not much - and all this attention is unwarranted - but hey, that’s just my take. I’ll be much more thrilled when I see some actual comparitive shots between the Wii platform, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.

Manga Sonic is awesome, and its not recommended to do the first comment thing, Sonic The Hedgehog. And the Chip thing meh. I don’t even care about new characters right now, there should be more important things to be worrying about. Because someone here will say that they character shouldn’t be in. You watch.
I love his expressions. Its not something I have ever seen before in Sonic so it made me laugh.

@David Leggett: No. There are three videos that show the same gameplay footage but without the reps talking and with clear quality of the demo. And you can hear the music as well, which is what it means by “update.”

I’m getting a horrible feeling that the Wii version won’t be out this year, else why haven’t we got a trailer up until this late in the Unleashed schedule [it does release in November IIRC].
I can’t see anything brillant from the scans either, which is why we need a gameplay trailer to really see how it compares to the other versions [and S&TSRs].

Yeah, that magazine was released in July, it just took me awhile to get my copy of it. I live in America and it’s a UK magazine. =) Anyways, those aren’t PS2 screens (mostly Xbox 360/PS3), I am just a bit late on posting scans of that magazine. Uh, first comment here, what should I say…
The game really does look and sound good. Of course, as the “cycle” message near the top implied, we won’t ever REALLY know how this game handles and appeals until we actually get our hands on it. But it’s a good thing that the developers are saying that they’re aware of the mistakes in the past. It gives us ground for some hope.
But yeah, I’d agree that some comparative shots would be nice. I’ll end up getting the PS2 version.

Wow! Lots of posts! Anyway, I can’t get alot from scans, they come out kinda fuzzy, I like to read from scans, but screenshots always come out bad. I think the Manga is a hoax, I don’t know why they would wright a Manga about a game that might not even be sucessfull. I mean I’ll buy it, but it’s the non-diehard Sonic fans I’m worried about. Someone awhile ago said something about Sonic just having a circle for a shadow in the Wii version. They’ll change it in the final version becouse Sonic had a realistic shadow in Sonic and the Secret Rings. I’m not to worried about the graphics, they’ll come out great! You’ll be surprised!
The new character’s name is Chip (chippu). The guy in the apron is called Ice (aisu).
And Sonic yells: “I GOT IT!” Then something along the lines of: “There’s too much to do!” or “There’s a whole world to explore!”, although I think the first one’s closer to his expression in the frame.
I think that the Wii and PS2 version is the same as Xbox360 and PS3 version only Hedgehog Engine is missing, worth grafic and shadows. Sonic and Weresonic looks same as on Xbox 360 and PS3.

But the quality isn’t going to be as good for the Wii & PS2.

Those Wii screens look promising. It’s obvious the graphics are unfinished, but it’s nice to see that they will be colorful and at least somewhat similar to the 360/PS3 versions. I still plan to buy both the 360 and Wii versions for the different level design, but for my friends that only have a Wii…I just want it to be as similar graphically as possible.

Only new characters this year are in chronicles, but they fit with the story, and will only be used once. Bioware knows what there doing, and for unleashed, sega knows too!

It look 2 hours before I cleared it.
A month ago I was 15 or so rings short WITHOUT pausing.
I want to clear it the fair way now.

1 play trough the level until you reach special stage
2 you get a peparation moment
3 put your left(or right for lefties) hand on the pause button.
Cross it in a way it does’t hinder your other arm.
4 put the stylus in your main hand
5 start the stage
6 now,you can use your stylus hand to steer as usual.
7 within seconds you are confronted wit a chaotic mine field.
8 pause,and observe the screen.
determine the place where you need to move.it is best to cross a short distance.
9 unpause,play for a half sec.
10 pause again,and repeat.
in practice it mean you pause and unpause all the time while making small,but precise movement.
You can cleary make out a path this way,
I found out,that at least for me,the advantage isn;t the ”warping” of sorts,but that you put much less strain on you reflexes.
Keep trying this way,and you should succeed.
I almost did it without pausing.
It gotta be that your brain gets used to the stage,I know it by heart now.I did it before,and now it does’tt seem like a impassable mine field anymore.
It is like learing to bike,and the pausing is the side wheels.

I think it’s real, because those images have not been supplied anywhere else, and false boxart is normally made up of rendered official pictures that people have easy access to.

Yeah, that looks a bit too intricate to be shopped. While some other sites are known to make placeholder box art, this…is way too spiffy to be fake…I think.
THE 7+ IS ON THE COVER ART BECAUSE ITS AN EMBLEM FROM PEGI, THE EUROPEAN GAME RATING SYSTEM. It’s like the ESRB, but European…yeah. They grade them with ages, not with the letter.
The ratings are 3+, 7+,12+, 16+, and 18+. Which I think would make them the equivalents of Early Childhood, Everyone, Everyone over 10 and up, Teen, and Mature. No Adults Only, they just ban them. XD
So, 7+ is a good thing, don’t worry.
@iamkirbyheremeroar: Well, for one thing, this character hasn’t been entirely confirmed to be in the game and for two thing, they…well, I don’t remember them saying that there would be no new characters in the game, just that they wouldn’t be entirely playable (just in short minigames) and that they wouldn’t take the focus off of Sonic.
@TailstheHedgehog: The difference is in the level layouts. The version for the XBOX 360/PS3 will be different from thw Wii (and possibly the PS2 version)

@Lan: Well, a lot of people are complaining because they think that the Sonic Channel blog says so…but the person who said that has admitted before that her English isn’t all too good. She also said that Chip had lost his memory, but the rough translation of the comic by KIRBY that was posted by flash looks like he’s searching for the perfect ice cream rather than his memory…oh, and to find out more about the shrine/temple too! XD
Sonic Channel DID announce the manga with the new character, but I don’t think they really said that Chip would be in it. Even my lame Google Translation didn’t give me any bizarre translation that could be thought to mean “this character is in the game!” just things along the lines of”This Sonic World Adventure manga introduces a new character!” Which would mean different things to different people…I’m thinking more that it is a manga character.
The only game that the Archie characters were in was Sonic Spinball, the…Genesis version…and AoSTH characters were in Doctor Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. But those were spin-offs, so they don’t count.
I don’t get why we need to jump the gun over nearly everything. …admittedly, I did that with frog up there, and I apologize. While he wasn’t exactly being polite…or willing to back up his opinion with more than just some diagram, that really was no reason to go off on him. o__o;;
@Chosenoneknuckles: it is coming out this year. a guy at gamespot handed me a binder for the new wii games coming out this year and sonic unleashed was on it. the date said Nov. 4. hope that cleared your mind.

I said small and blurry and touched up with Photoshop. The real screens are what you saw in Nintendo Power. Except the Sonic Model, I think that was improved in these screens.

@iNAUDiBLE: Let me put forth a few things; I hope that this game is great. It looks great so far. It’s just that so far it’s also held true to that cycle. I hope it does better, but I prefer a yahtzee-esque point of view on things: if you don’t get into the pre-release hype about a game it will seem way better if it’s good, and if it’s bad there’s no appointment because that’s what you expected. Also, be more conservative in your use of Capital letters.
@Frog: I apologize again for jumping the gun on it. I personally prefer…the neutral view point when it comes to upcoming Sonic games as well…I had it for Sonic ‘06, and while the game wasn’t really all that good, I didn’t take it nearly as bad as everybody else did.
But, yet again, this character has NOT been confirmed to be in the game. No screenshots with him, no footage of him…just a promotional manga. And considering that most Sonic tie-in media have not actually “tied in” with the games, him being a manga-exclusive character seems to be the case. However, he hasn’t been confirmed NOT to be in the game, so I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. I also take that diagram into question regarding the new characters…EVERY major Sonic title since Sonic 2 has introduced a new character into the franchise. Most every form of entertainment media, like TV shows and comic books and video games, introduce new characters into the mix, whether they’re new main characters, recurring character who will pop in and out from time to time, and one shot characters, which appear one time and never appear again. Most people tend to complain about the quality of the characters (if they’re needlessly annoying, if they’re deriviate, if they’re acting OOC for no apparent reason), but I haven’t heard of quantity being an issue until I got into the Sonic series. I agree, they need to cut back on the characters and try to focus on the ones they have…but if they introduce a new character that is interesting, isn’t one dimensional and doesn’t come off like every other lame-o Sonic fancharacter, I’ll attempt to tolerate it the best I can. Chip…well, the character design is different and he’s quite the energetic guy…but he isn’t as irritating as Charmy…much…and he speaks in the first person. I think I might end up liking him if he does end up in the game. But then again, that’s my opinion. You’re allowed to yours, and I apologize for disrespecting yours and for my abuse of caps lock.

I think it’s actually a slightly better thing that there’s a new character every game. It lets the designers go nuts, which you want them to. I mean, that’s what they’re paid for. XP Plus, if you just had Sonic, Tails and Eggman in every single game, you’d have run out of plotlines… sixteen years ago? A new character brings a new personality to the cast, a new story can be made around them. The Sonic world becomes richer.
It’s also more reassuring to see all those Mobians. Sonic looks less unusual in his world if he has more members of his species there.
@Umiyuri: True. New characters are quite interesting, but I’d also love more detail with the older characters as well. Like, comparing Amy in Sonic Adventure with how she was in Sonic ‘06…I would’ve liked the growth she had in the original Sonic Adventure to have applied a bit more to her character in the games afterword, but she appears to have…digressed. Since the game was intended to be an Adventure series game, I hope they don’t over look that.
Yes, that in of itself its true. I personally hope that the way the manga-ka drew the ice cream man was his own style and not the style for the humans that will be used in the game…the magazines say that in the game, the style for the humans is like Pixar…but the style used in the comic bares almost no resemblance and looks a sight worse! Yet again…things haven’t been confirmed, but I’m a tad worried about that…
