Never trust a box folks.
Yesterday, MKSkillz sent us a link to Play.com showing off what might be the Sonic Unleashed Box art. While we always appreciate the heads up — we don’t always post about leads if there doesn’t seem to be enough substance behind them.
I think we might need to take a step back here. While this certainly looks compelling, I’m going to suggest that this might not be the official art for the game. It could be. But folks are jumping to conclusions it seems.
If you want my honest opinion, the “Box Art” in question looks like it could be a Photoshop mock-up. I know it’s on Amazon, so it must be official, right!? Well, not so much, as Amazon allows users to upload their own product images, and it’s not rare to see placeholders for upcoming games in online stores like this.
So in short, I don’t mean to be raining on this parade, but I do think we should take one tiny step back and wait for the official word from SEGA before making any final judgment calls here.
WHAT? how can you think its a fake?! that art is too good to be a fake cmon guys! I cant belive you think so! its not like a previous Sonic pose edited, its official. but I could be wrong, but Im 99% its true, and I love the box in fact…not many characters crammed in, but the focus on only one character and a gorgeous background!!! Love it, it better be real, if it wasnt then thats one heck of a photoshoper even with photoshop thats a new render, he would have to render it, and so far Ive never seen anyone render a Sonic that looks official

IDK, I kinda hope that isn’t the box art. It’s okay but I hope that its a little better.

Don’t get me wrong dude, it looks good, but as a budding Illustrator wannabe I’m pretty critical of art such as this.
I’m just saying that it could be better, thats all.

Just thought I’d make a comment to say that I know it may not be the final artwork but it’s being used on all the big retail sites so I thought I’d let you know.
Oh, and it’s the same artwork for all versions of the game.
I think it’s a great box art, the Hedgehog/Werehog split is cool. Plus they could make the cover shiny to really give it an impact.
And even if it is a Photoshop… it’s one heck of a Photoshop!

Hmm, it looks okie. But it could be more dynamic and interesting if the Werehog was coming at another angle, and if the title was warped abit in a similar vein, imho of course.
The European boxart will likely be the worst of the three, sadly for me…
