Sonic Unleashed Video: Full Stage on Mykonos

It may be shaky-cam, and half of the footage may involve unknowing bystanders blocking our view, but other than that, this is the first video of a full stage we’ve seen so far.

It’s Mykonos Greece, though I can’t say whether it’s the first of the stages from the world or not… but it’s a stage we’ve seen bits and pieces of before.  Looks like the playtime was somewhere around 3 and a half minutes.

  12. I know it’s cool that the site is being updated with new info, but you don’t want to be a spoiler by revealing the WHOLE stage…:(
    But on the other side, I’m really glad that there’s new info!:)

    and another thing…Those peole are annoying! 0_o

  13. Well, seeing the first stage(likely) isn’t too bad. And it’s good to have an idea of the play style for a whole level.

    Alright, any observations?

    1. Either the ranking system is more forgiving because it’s a demo at a convention, or it’s just more forgiving in general. Which I would applaud. I never can figure out why I get S and A rankings at bosses, but levels are more difficult.

    2. The homing target looks like it will solve the “Am I doing a homing attack or jump dashing?” confusion, which is a positive.

    3. I saw a few alternate routes…

    4.The 2-D/3′D transition seemed like it went over well, and even made sense in terms of level design. Oddly enough, the camera stays focused better. If you go straight forward on a 2-d path, and then run up some stairs…the camera doesn’t have to switch to account for you going a different direction because YOU’RE going a different direction. It seems like a definite improvement, even if the cameras never really bothered me much in previous games.

    I’m impressed.

  14. I just looked at the Wii scans…well, they’re high quality scans but still scans. I’m sure the game looks better than that. Nevertheless, it looks better than I predicted. It does look Secret Rings quality for the most part, even if the daytime segments look better than the night ones(colorful graphics look more 360-ish than polished nightime colors do).

    Call me excited. At least I have Chronicles to help me wait.

  26. @David Leggett: Same here. My third year of High school is starting up tomorrow and Mom isn’t letting me online during the week this year. Thankfully, I still have fridays and the weekends. ^^

    I found some more posted on a topic. And I have to say that they just look amazing! but I don’t know if they are real screen from Wii…

  34. man the gameplay looks insane the control seems very easy to pick up and play and the camera was brilliant the only annoying thing was the people sonic moves well and the game level looks pretty simple to control plus the player only died once which is great considering the amount of times he couldve died but didnt because the turns were simple yet i didnt see a falling off the world seen or any running parts that if u didnt pay attention for a second you would die. There was also alot of new additions in the level like chairs and tables fixed with umbrellas that u could knock if u wanted too and made it realistic but a disney like world very well done.

    Anyway, some good old roof-hopping, Adventure-styled checkpoints, black-holes… The graphics are pristine, but the level design is slightly linear… hmm…

    -Chip! SEGA, you -promised- us no new characters and there he is!

    …Aww, look! Chip’s doin’ a little aerial dance! <3 Now I’m happy.

    (The mental state of a fangirl is hardly a sensible one, but it’s not as bad as it could be.)

  37. okay this is not relevant to this game in particular but in japan they’ve been call dr.robotnik “dr.eggman” since sonic drift on the game gear for proof click my name for a youtube link(so guys they did not create the name for sonic adventure-most people think that)

  39. @NejiBK: He’s always been Dr. Eggman in Japan. He was known as Dr. Robotnik everywhere else when SEGA of America decided to change his name for the English releases of the games. It was in Sonic Adventure when they decided to make both names internationally canon (Robotnik as his real name, “Eggman” as his nickname).

  43. @Kevin: who cares as long as it doesnt mess up the levels do you really care i’m more focused on the gameplay right now than some side character but if the gameplay passes then choose whether u wanna dismiss the character he is a side mission though

    The gameplay. There was no glitches. It was fast. This. This is amazing. It looks awesome. I hope the Wii version is just as good.

    OMG.Sega, you may have saved Sonic.

    Shame Chip’s real, I won’t mind though if he’s just a replacement for Omochao.

    The game looks amazing; they even fixed the framerate issues. I only hope Chip keeps his trap shut during the levels.

    I’m impressed. Although I saw a few glitches, it wasn’t at all bad. The framerate held up, the graphics are mind-blowing, the speed is insane, and Chip (if that’s him) looks nice and he may be an interesting character.

    Now I’m also excited for Werehog and since the two gameplay styles look vastly different, I think we may have a great game on our hands.

    Only three months…
