Was gonna save this for our monthly roundup, but I found a bit of extra time, so I decided to squeeze it in a bit sooner.
There’s been several Sonic Unleashed tidbits that we’ve missed due to lifes greater evils (you know… work, Monday mornings, College, collecting change on the streets to pay for pouridge…), and rather than take up too much of your time with a collection of posts, Camp Sonic will serve all of these updates in one concise, informative update.
Better Quality Mykonos Video from Leipzig’s Game Convention
We posted a video of a full stage from Mykonos Greece in Sonic Unleashed — but through most of the coverage, it seemed like we were simply watching how effectively crowds of people could walk in front of the screen to block our view. Thankfully, GameVideos got a better look at the screen, and has made their version available to all:
We get a quick look at Chip in the video, the newest character to enter into Sonic’s universe. Here’s to hoping that he plays a small role in Unleashed, rather than dominating the entire storyline.

I actually like sonic to be a weird mix of realistic and fantasy elements,it has an own charm.
But cartoonly people are fine to,as long if they do not go overboard.
Still funny to see them taking such a statement when the levels are based on the real world.

Just to let people know, according to gamestop…the PS2 version qill be $29.99 here. So, don’t worry about those rates…if you’re in the U.S it will still be cheap.
And apparently the Wii version will be $49.99 and the 360/PS3 will be $59.99.

Crazee: Yeah, but online it’s still $39.99! The other problem is that when you search Sonic Unleashed it only gives you the 360, Wii, and PS3 ones! Help? @BLUEBLUR: I don’t think that is going to happen. The werehog is already negatively charged by the Chaos Emeralds so being another darkform at the same time will probably require two sets of emeralds.
I’m a little scared because dimps didn’t use the same ring energy and speed bars those seemed to show us that the game is the fastest thing ever I mean the time bars don’t need to show the best time. But I think the werehog shield an vitality bars look better. Right?
Hyper Sonic is my second favorite form and Darkspine Sonic is my favorite form of all time

@Mark Chao: Basically, Sonic gets onto the Egg ship thing and starts making trouble. Eggman had predicted all of that would happen so he goes to his next phase of his plan to capture Sonic. He succeeds but then he sees that Sonic has the emeralds with him. Sonic transforms and destroys the ship and Eggman’s machine. Then, Eggman retreats to his secret base. SuperSonic follows and gets captured while in his Super form. Sonic tries to break free but Eggman drains him of his chaos energy and uses it to seperate to Earth so that he can control another beast of legend. The beam has a negative reaction and backfires back to Sonic. Sonic then realized something was wrong. He slowly transforms into a Werehog which is something Eggman never predicted.. Eggman loses control over his machine and tries to get rid of the Werehog. An opening is made in a part of the ship and the Werehog gets sucked out. He tries to pull himself back in but fails and falls out of the ship. He is then pulled in by Earth’s gravity and lands on the planet. Chip/Tip finds him and tries to save him. Sonic had turned back to normal and wanted to know where he was. He finds out from someone that he is in Mykonos and that the world was seperated. Sonic meets up with tails in the town stage and hears about the chaos emerald shrines. They then set out on a journey around the world to revive the emeralds back to normal. One night Sonic is all alone and transforms again. He sees the town people hiding in their houses because the Chaos Golem’s minions were awakened as well. Sonic tries to help them at mach speed but realizes he is a lot slower. he runs into a puddle and looks at himself. “What have I become?” he wonders. One of the minions tries to attack him when he grabs it and then tosses it away. His arms had stretched when that happened and realizes how to fight in his new form. “Alright then, lets get going!”

@SaruSaru: Just “Sonic the Hedgehog” actually (sorry for being a nitpick but I gets the urge to be educational at times, even if it means correcting people on stuff I have expertise in); the theme to AoStH had no lyrics, as it was just a mashup of Masato Nakamura’s original Sonic theme, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee”, and Edvard Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King”.

@Mark Chao: Even if all he did was grunt in the E3 demo, it still sounded just like Sonic (Jason Griffith)… I couldn’t hear any effect added to the voice that made him sound feral or otherwise out of his right mind. It was what started me believing that he maintains sentience through his Werehog form.

If you haven’t yet watched any of the original Japanese episodes with English subtitles… I suggest you give it a shot one of these days… From personal experience, they’re not so much a breath of fresh air from the 4Kids dubs, rather than the act of removing your head from an overfilled trash can and stepping outside into a warm sunny day and a tropical breeze. (IMHO!! no offense to those who honestly like the 4Kids dub, even after they’ve seen and heard the original Japanese version.)

Fang won’t be appearing in Unleashed. That guy who started that rumor about Fang appearing in the game to hunt Sonic down is a lie and I can prove it. The guy made that rumor just to get fans hopeful and apparently his plan works cause already fans believes that Fang will appear without no official confirmation from Sega.

@Chaos Blast: I imagined there was a boss battle versus Shadow first without him using his gun (Shadow: I found you, demon! Now, let’s get this out of the way, so I can find Sonic! -Fluffy’s eye’s widen, but it’s already too late-) but it was just before five-thirty, and then suddenly the sun rises and Sonic changes back, just as Shadow’s about to shoot. Shadow panics (he’s like, “whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat-the-hell!?” in his brain) but keeps his cool.

@Umiyuri: The dude who does the Archie comics plots now is getting some flack…he’s doing a decent job for Archie, I’d say…
His head is in a Sonic style, but his body resembles an animal body more…shorter limbs. You know, people don’t really count the small animals and the Chao towards the character count, and tend to count the characters with a consistant body style (Sonic, Tails…do I have to go on) in the character count…all humans except Eggman left to the side. Maybe the body style is an intentional choice, to say “this character isn’t minor but it isn’t major either.”

There’s a differance between glitches, though. If glitches make you fall through floors and kill you during normal gameplay…that’s horrid. However, glitches that occur when you do unusual actions…that’s not a big deal because they rarely occur.
There has ALWAYS been tons of glitches in Sonic games, but they were cool ones. lol Especcially the “getting in other people’s levels” in Sonic Adventure.

@Crazee: I have only ever ‘performed’ one glitch in a Sonic game – flying off Chao Garden in SA2 and coming back to see my Chao drowning in soil (happily, I did it with both Sonic and Shadow). I can’t do the level glitch in SA due to my copy being the PC version. Same with all the old Sonic games, the Debug Mode code doesn’t work on my copies.
The other three glitches I’ve ever bumped into in a Sonic game are all in Sonic Rivals: CPU Knuckles not moving on boss levels, Metal going backwards in the Sky Park Zone and one in the Death Yard Zone where the models suddenly disappeared and I became an eternally falling yellow line on the sky background. And yet I still play that game loads.

To be fair, the glitches have never bothered me even now. I’m really just going by what other people say on them. I only got glitches when I tried so. S3K is the best game for glitches lol, usually because you can go areas you’re not supposed to with Tails and Knuckles.
Some people go too far with calling things glitches though…like when my brother would have a spring launch him too far to his death he’d say it’s a glitch. I just assume it’s an intended feature and work around it. Rail Canyon is a trick though, that one spring…uhh. But anyway…moving on.heh
I like the cheat in Heroes where is you fall off rail you can fly up and through them. It’s very handy.

I like Sonic CD, but I guess I shouldn’t be counted really, since I really can’t see how people can say any of the Sonic games are not the Sonic game stye. The only thing I really associate Sonic with, besides Sonic being fast, is the challenge of the game. Some are easier than others, but the challenge hasn’t disappeared too much like it has in some other game series. Everyone has a right to their opinion though, I just don’t like the professional graders because they can ruin a perfect game just because they don’t like it.

Well, everyone hates Sonic Labrynth …lol. But I hear you. It’s probably because I never owned a Sega CD and therefore didn’t play the game until last year. The whole time travel element makes the game too much backtracking for my tastes. The levels are beautiful, but I don’t like time travel.

It was a really busy day today at the book fair, so no updates today, sorry
Sonic CD was built somewhat off Sonic 1, but it still didn’t play the same as any other Sonic game for me, mostly because of the level design and how it seemed busted-up and halted in some places to accommodate the differences between time periods. It’s also reaaaally difficult for me to get a good future in all of the levels, and I STILL haven’t been able to get all those Time Stones. I still like the game though… despite the American soundtrack.
It’s fun to me.
I think it’s funny how we have to explain Nack the Weasel (Fang) to some people, but it’s understandable because he’s a really old character who hasn’t showed up since Triple Trouble and Fighters several years ago, and that not a lot of post-Dreamcast fans would recognize him, unless they were big fans of the Archie and Fleetway comics in which he appeared.
I’m one of those fans who got in around 1993 before there was Internet, fell out around 1998 when SEGA stopped making Sonic games for the Genesis (because I was too poor to own a Dreamcast), got back in about 10 years later when I suddenly realized that I could play Sonic on my Gamecube, and is now experiencing 10 years worth of fandom shock (”What do you mean, ‘I don’t know who Nack the Weasel is’?”) as well as trying to stay out away from the mainstream fandom because of all the furry porn that comes up when I go browsing for good Sonic fanart. x.x

What new Wii screens? All the ones I’ve seen (the ones here at Camp Sonic, and the rest at http://www.wiids.nl) were posted a week or two ago, where are “new” screenshots?

The Eurogamer article is very interesting.
The Google translation is a little off… but in a nutshell:
-Control and graphics-wise, Sonic Unleashed is substantially much better then the previous Sonic outings;
-However, since it’s a little too fast, it’s easy to miss out on the level design;
-There are still framerate issues to be dealt with in the [b]Nightime[/b] levels;
-The physics are impressive, according to them;
-They enjoyed the switch between 2D and 3D, because it keeps things fresh;
who has read the preview from gamesradar. they gave it a 6 out of 10 because the game was too easy. I quote “Are We Actually Playing Unleashed?”

I’m afraid I’m going to have to apologize for no updates today, either. Hidden agendas springing up, culminating in forced free time in which I’m too tired to put pencil to paper.
Going to be focusing on a really important project over the next couple of weeks, so please forgive me if any more updates come up short, spaced-out, or halted.
I’m still glad that you’re still enjoying it though.
If they ran around with no idea where to go and they died all the time, I’m pretty sure they’d trash it as unplayable.
Of course it’s easy. First, it’s a demo. Secondly, it’s probably one of the early worlds. And as far as it ‘playing itself’…well, they played the game. I didn’t. But when I watched the video there were segments where you obviously were in complete control. That’s obvious enough from the videos. These are the same kind of people who get mad at those ‘automatic’ segments in Adventure where Dash panels push you along. Really, I respect their opinion but they have a different view of gaming than me. I could tell as soon as they said the only good Sonic games are 2D ones that I disagreed with them.
The concerns are fair, but sites without any negativity towards Sonic games seem to say the only concerns are frame rates and junk like that. Or the Werehog.So, my expectations are the same…that I’ll enjoy it. Who cares about anyone else? heh

old sonic games were chalenging,, sonic adventure 1 and 2 had enough platforming, it wasnt that hard but at least you had the feeling you were really accomplishing something
This sonic unleashed is kinda similair to sonic rush, and sonic rush 1 was good it was hard and i liked the chalenge, died so many times but i still remember myself jumpin around when i finished the game
what is a game without some chalenge,,
mario galaxy was easy thats true, but you were putting some effort there. espacialy in the later stages
sonic team does a great job but they just dont see that platforming used to be one of the aspects that made sonic a great game,, remember the old sonics,

Somehow it feels like The Sonic Stadium decided a long time ago that Unleashed is going to be bad game, and now they’ll look for anything to support that and completely ignore all the good sides.
Gamespy had somewhat positive impressions in their Leipzig hands-on, but I didn’ find anything about it at TSS.

TSS has complimented Unleashed before…they said it was shaping up nicely.
Really though, none of us know until we get our hands on it. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, but it’s possible to enjoy a 6.5 or 7/10 game. I hope I really enjoy it. To me it looks like a mix between Sonic Rush Adventure and Sonic Adventure. If it is, that’s 8/10 territory at the least. As long as it’s not glitchy with lots of slowdown, the gameplay looks fun and I’m sure later stages are challenging. And I mean, some of those bottomless pits under the rails…some of us might miss the rails a few times. And yes, I mean I’ll completely miss them. lol
So, The Sonic Stadium and Eurogamer thinks its shaping up to be fine while Gamesradar continues to be biast. >___>;;
…well, TSS might have an attitude, but I’d rather trust their opinion than Gamesradar.
*shrugs* We still got three months to go. I’m sure that the game will be fine. Besides, whether a game is “good” or not is subjective. If you like it, you like it, if you don’t, you don’t. Don’ try to disrespect those whose opinion differs in that respect…
Well, it seems like TSS expects the game to be decent and a definite step forward…but not the next coming of Sonic games.
I’m not sure if it will get good number reviews even if it’s good, due to the fact it will likely still suffer from the expectations people have for the franchise. I’d say 7.5-8/10 scores would be great for this franchise and would start to build some positive feelings. Aside from Sonic ‘06, Sonic games have been recieved favorably lately(Secret Rings, Rush Adventure) and with Chronicles and Unleashed(if it’s even good, not great) that should be a nice step forward.
It seems that at bare minimum, the game will be fun but shallow and linear. That’s not so bad, it means the engine is good and the major Sonic flaws are fixed in 3D(camera, lack of speed, controls etc). From all sources, these things look great. If Sega adds in some extra baddies and the game is long enough…it will get some positive press. A step forward is what’s important. At least it’s not filled with glitches! It’s shaping up nicely.

@jaouad: Oh so that’s the review? I can’t trust them since they didn’t like Sonic Adventure I think. So the only complaints they had were the 3d parts and the boosters and the Werehog even though they didn’t even play with him? I would think the pros seriously would out weigh the cons so the game demo at least deserves an 8. Oh wait, there are no pros since they didn’t talk about all that was good! The fools!!! I betcha if the game starred mario they would have been all over it.

I just had a long post at the Sega forums about the game lol. Essentially, the game’s looking good. The complaints look pretty thin, to be honest.

They gave Sonic 3 a 7 (I think) apparantely… those games had long and “tedious” levels.
So, Sonic Unleashed getting 6/10 would make the game as good as the classic Sonic & Knuckles. They gave Sonic 1 a 10/10 and I don’t think that game is better than Sonic 3k.

I’m getting the Wii Unleashed on release, and I’ll probably get the 360 version in December….when I finally buy a 360 lol. What’s funny is I’ll be getting three games with my 360… Grand theft auto IV, Sonic ‘06 and Sonic Unleashed. Maybe MK vs DC, but I’m not sure.
So, I have a lot of Sonic games to play since I plan to trudge my way through ‘06 and give it a shot lol. Two versions of Unleashed, ‘06, Chronicles and then Black Knight in the spring.
I know it has been said 100 of times but it just can’t be said often enough.
@SonicTeam: Keep the levels where you play the wearhog monkey to the minimum and make the normal Sonic levels less linear.
Wait, I’m reading the comments here and is people already saying that gamesradar already reviewed Sonic Unleashed? And if they’re complaining about the game being too easy, isn’t that the first stage in the demo? Usually the first few stages in Sonic games are pretty easy but it gets harder while you progress throught the game.

games radar find ways to bash the sonic franchise. Like having him on the lazy cliche article. them idiots dont realize that sonic began the animals with attitude trend and others coppied. And another is characters they want out and they put tails. And then the megaman 9 ‘treatment’ they put sonic should go back. But to be honest i think capcom is being lazy on making it 8 bit instead megaman 9 should be givin it the ’sonic unleashed’ treatment and make it great graphics and still make it 2d. sonic may not be doin back to the classical sprites but at least they r doin something new to the franchise.
Well, Megaman 9 is cheap and downloadable so that’s why it’s not a next gen style game. They should have made it 16 bit though, Mega Man 7 and 8 look so out of place now lol.
Every video game developer has different ways of going back to their games roots.
But if you ask me, and you compare Megaman 9 to Sonic Unleashed, it does look cheap!

This site is really slow to update now. Even Sonic Stadium is, but not as slow as this. The owner of CampSonic must be occupied at the moment. Juggling a real life and updates must be hard work.

Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure was two awsome games.
The Wii version is the same as the PS3 and the 360 version. The only differents is the graphics!
If Sega is planning to use the 4-Kids voice actors again, I do hope they get some better directing this time.

I would not disagree or agree with sonic the fox because it depends on what you like more a numchuck or a regular controller. Most people( who has a wii) are kinda of better at using their hands and moving. while some people just like to move their fingers and push buttons. Everybody option on How they look and play a game is different.
graphics look amazing, gameplay looks fun, and really reminds me of the greater sonic games. I can’t wait for this game, one of the reasons im going out to buy a 360 XD
