All wallpapers will be done at 1920×1080, widescreen, so if you have a fullscreen computer, expect some squishing. I just sat at my computer drawing the one with the sonic drift. It was just so cool. It’s not to shabby, just needs to be outlined and coloured and it’s a new addition to my collection ^_^!!!
I should try the werehog next, but he’s not a solid colour like sonic which is all I’m good at drawing, will be hard cos of all the fur. Maybe just the face.

@WiiFP: It should be, i reckon sega is finally startong to get the hang of 3D games. SatSR got around a seven. IGN sais 6.9 but they dont even average their scores so we dont like them,
reader reviews got a 7.8 anyway.
Back to the point, Black night prequel was good but had a few flaws. If it is going to be the same sort of experience as SatSR then all Sega has to do is iron out the clunkiness.

@blueblur: Just gone looking. As far as i can tell sonic unleashed is a worldwide release. Speaking of release all the sites I visited on just said november 2008. Camp Sonic sais november 4th but I’ve heard november 18th aswell.

@TailstheHedgehog: The reviewer was – surprise, surprise – Gamesradar, who said it eventually falls into the same thing as every other 3D Sonic game: you ask yourself if you’re actually playing it. They’ve said that the 2D sections also feel the same. Basically, SEGA have screwed up again.
Sometimes, I ask myself why we even bother. I can’t wait for the day that Sonic gets sold to Nintendo, because then the games will get better reviews, since Nintendo seem to know what makes a Sonic game better than Sonic Team do.

The demo looked excellent though the framerate needed some polish, I really hope this is just them thinking just because it’s a sonic game and they’ve spotted one flaw it means that the particular game is gonna be rubbish

This is an old one, all the way back in May but I would like to point out that this review is entirely unbiased and at one point gamesradar even calls sonic a ‘blue freak’
Hang on I’m searching for a newer one but I think the angle they are criticising sonic for in his new game is ‘Are we actually playing unleashed’

I have to say that these game review everyone is looking at should be taken with a grain of salt. I have played huge amount of great games that had a score of 6/10 just because of stupid reasons. Every person has different tastes and needs to remember that reviews, no matter what, are biased. A good example is probably Sonic ‘06. Everyone seems to hate the game for things that I see in every single darn game. I won’t go into detail about the things because it would be a long explanation, but my point is that things shouldn’t be seen from one angle. Doing that is being blind to the whole thing.
I don’t mean to change people’s views, but I really do think these reviews are taken way to seriously.
There are quite a few websites with positive previews on the game….I wouldn’t take one preview too seriously. Especcially since 6/10 is close enough to being good anyway. I saw Super Paper Mario get the same score from a previewer and then get a 8/10 review. I think it was IGN…
Seriously, looking at the previews combined…it looks good and fun but potentially shallow. That’s not so bad…being a console version of Sonic Rush Adventure. My optimism is still here. Then again, I liked Sonic Adventure and don’t care if the game’s “too linear”.

It’s tough being a Sonic fan that likes all the games, but knows they can be better. It’s like…I’m not either rapidly optomistic or pessimistic. I’m just a fan.
Anyway, positive feedback from the x08 show in Canada:
From the xbox scene forum article “While stalking the main floor I got to see the new Sonic Unleashed game, and I must say…IMPRESSED as well, I have pretty much hated every sonic game that has been in the 3D world(as do many other people) but this game, changed all that. It was what I like to say a 2D game in a 3D world, you never once lost the feel of the old 2D games, but the worlds are beautiful and definitely 3D. This will be the first Sonic game that I will actually buy in almost 10 years.”
And from the bbps blog: “Highlights of the event were UNLEASHED! Specifically Sonic Unleashed and Star Wars: Force Unleashed. Get ready for the first good Sonic game in a long time people — this thing is SWEET. The day levels are fast and the gameplay is smooth. The transitions from 3D to 2D are downright seamless, and there’s no stopping and starting like previous games. At night it turns into a combo heavy action game as Sonic takes wolf form, and is equally as killer.”
Obviously, not as high profile as Games Radar or IGN…but Gamepro, Gamespot and some other sites are extremely pleased. I’m expecting some mixed reactions to the game, but it looks more positive than negative.
@DarkChaos: People hated Sonic 06 since it had a lot of bugs, wasn’t finished, slower than a Sonic game, high expectations, SILVER!!!!! for some reason, the gameplay, horrible voice acting except by Eggman a little of Elise, ELISE!!!!!!!, rehashing of the same exact levels for each character,etc. Now Gamesrader hates Sonic Unleashed for having the 3d sections, being too fast, and the werehog which they didn’t play as and it got a mediocre rating. They didn’t say anything good at all. If the “DEMO” got a 6/10 then Sonic 06 should have gotten a 0.000000000001/ 10.

I think I’m definetely gonna trust IGN over Gamesradar. Actually IGN are people I always read game reviews from because (so far) they are unbiased and give you alot of ups and downs on a game so you can weigh it for yourself if you want to buy it or not.
Still cant beleive Gamesradar called sonic a blue freak! I’m never goin back to them again.

I thought the reason why the 4kids VAs replaced the original cast was because the original voice for Eggman (Robotnik… who cares anyway?) had died and they needed a replacement so they wanted the 4kids actors to play him but had to get them all instead. The gamesradar review is supposedly… quote “after 10 minutes of play time.”
Games radar says, the game has things found in 3d Sonic games such as “automatic speed boosts, and springs.”
They also give Sonic & Knuckles 6/10
They said, the automatic speed boosts are bad because they “control you.” Like when Sonic is running from the whale… and stuff.
Those are awesome. I’m using the old-school one.
They hate every Sonic game except the first two…and maybe CD. Their opinion is valid, but they’re a hate site anyway so who cares? If you want a return to form, you’re better off paying attention to people who liked Sonic games in the FIRST place.And journalists who give honest opinions, not shocking ones.
IGN is a much fairer source, even if I personally dislike their reviews most of the time. Not because they don’t have integrity, though. I just see games differantly than them, so their leanings don’t impact me very much. I really don’t decide what to buy based on reviews anymore, anyway. I only use them to study the content of a game, and then I weigh the positives and negatives. I only ever use reviews when I decide to try a product I had no interest in previously, like Kingdom Hearts. And…I should have followed my gut. I really dislike action rpg’s.lol

@lxMetalSonicxl: I am aware of all of these and as I said, I am not going to explain how most of these glitches are in each game. Silver was actually an interesting character in my opinion though. At least he wasn’t as slow minded as Big and he had interesting abilities, but people can hate him if they want. People hate Midna in Zelda Twilight Princess, but I liked her. I really don’t want to delve into this and start a full argument or something close to it. I was just stating how bad reviewer opinions can be. I didn’t mean offense to anyone.

@Crazee: I normally go to IGN if I’m stuck on whether to buy a game or not. I used it to buy Blue Dragon. Though it only had a rating of 6.5 ign said the gameplay and puzzles were fun even though tne enviroments are downright boring.

Yeah, that’s what reviews need to say. They need to describe the game. What it’s about, where it excels…and where it falls short. I was reading an EGM the other day and saw it reviewed Wall-E. Now, I have no interest in the game…and it probably doesn’t deserve anything indepth. But if your review is going to consist of…hyperbole and seething anger, why bother reviewing it? Just say “Another licensed kid’s game” and move on. If you’re going to type paragraphs…you’re not a blog. We expect information not ranting. That’s what I hated about a lot of Sonic ‘06 reviews. If it’s bad, it’s bad. Tell us why it fails, don’t just get on your soapbox and whine.
But yeah, I like reviews like that. When games are in that 6.0 to 7.5 range, they can go either way and you need the information to make your decision….not just a score or opinionated rants. I can’t say I really know the game you mention, though.

@Crazee: It wasn’t great (the review called it a japanese RPG that was just…there) I’m not surprised. It’s just fun seeing the shadow creature you control in the game make swiss cheese out of baddies

@umiyuri: Heh, I don’t think that blog writers are obligated to be informative like magazine writers are…or websites that try to review games. It’s kind of a thin arguement, I guess…but when people want to know if a game is worth paying money for they read reviews. They don’t…say…go to random blogs and fansites to see what they think lol.
I write all the time as well, as you can likely tell by my replies on HERE. If I wrote for a newspaper, my political pieces would probably be informative and factual. But since I write for entertainment, I tend to be opinionated and whatever. Don’t take what I said the wrong way.

Honestly, I hoping that SEGA releases some new in-game Wii footage, as well as specify whether or not Chao Gardens will be in Unleashed. I mean, it’s not that hard! it’s not that hard! All someone has to do is say yes or no. I’d be happier knowing the answer rather than speculate about things that may or may not exist.
It will be the final trailer, so it probably won’t be as level specific as the previous ones. I’d expect the final trailer at TGS to have more cutscene footage and lots of surprises and new levels…
And we’ll probably see the Wii/PS2 versions. And, supposedly, Sonic & the Black Knight will be shown.

@ Tails: Yeah, so you guys actually get Christmas in Summer. That is so weird for me logistically, it’s always hard to imagine Fall not being late September -early December.
Anyway, the date my brother is getting is November 18th and he works in retail. Those dates can be wrong, but it’s also the rumored date and fits the timetable.
Okay, as long as we have to wait for the Wii Footage we still have to see, I want to take this time and point some things out for those worried about the Werehog gameplay.
The Werehog seems like it has derived; and is a mix of certain style of gameplays; Amy’s SA/DX without Zero, Knuckles’ gameplay in Sonic Adventures 1 and 2 (Without finding the Master Emerald pieces), the controls and playing Ristar and Chaos in SA2/Battle’s 2-player gameplay (his arms did stretch) and if you want to describe the combo system, the multiple-locking-targeting-shoot-them-all-at-once shooting system from E-102 Gamma’s (SA/DX), Tails’ and Eggman’s (SA/2) gameplay, except it’s more close combat based than firing energy torpedo. Also, the Werehog may possibly have some gameplay elements from Shadow from his own game; not the elements where guns were used, but Shadow was able to lift things over his head and throw them, not to mention throw heavier things like buses when he could not lift them. If you don’t consider guns, the Werehog is similar to the lifting abilities Shadow had in his own game.
What I am actually trying to point out, is that the Werehog gameplay has recycled elements from past Sonic and non-Sonic games to make it fun as possible. It seems that Sega and Sonic Team wanted Sonic to work in 3D as much as they would hope. But they also wanted to bring Sonic’s gameplay from the classic Genesis games that fans have wanted for so long. So, having want Sonic to be the main and only playable character to do those kinds of things, Sega came up with the Werehog concept, and reused some elements from past gameplay styles Sega has done. They give the Werehog the elements of those past gameplays and that’s how they were able to give free roaming environment gameplay to Sonic without having sacrifice the classic feel that Sonic gave in the Genesis that everyone wanted to see.
Plus, this way, those who have actually enjoyed the past gameplay styles of some of Sega’s previous games would enjoy the Werehog gameplay, since it has those elements.
So, what do you think of this?
Random big springs, floating rails, balloons that stay in place, spikes that come out of nowhere, rings everywhere, randomly placed enemies and pulleys, and random dash pads, do you really find this stuff on in a city?
I wonder what the Werehog’s victory dance/pose will be? Probably a big roar and a toothy grin or something…

@Sonication: That’s kind of how I see the Werehog play as well. It seems like a combination of platforming, combat and puzzle solving. All three are elements not present as much in the racving levels as they’d like, but making the Werehog allows you to have a character that is fast(not Sonic fast, but not Silver slow either) but also use other play styles.
Need more screens.. trailer.. gameplay.. info need it now.

@Sonication: That’s a great analysis. I hope that is how it is because I would enjoy those elements done right. I just hope that when they brought the “classic” part of Sonic back they didn’t forget the challenges of the classic games. That is a huge reason why I still love the older Sonic games. They were fast run levels with actual challenges to make it not so darn easy. I am still waiting for an underwater level like Hydrocity or something similar to that in 3D. I think that would be so fun.

They always give me the eebie jeebies especially when the countdown starts..and the music (shudder) Talk about pressure, once in sonic rush I ran into a spring when the countdown hit zero and broke the surface of the water just in time. That was cutting it close, then I fell back into the water again, great right? lol
@TailstheHedgehog: Yeah I remember those parts especially in the original Sonic the hedgehog and Sonic 2(kinda didn’t get that in Sonic 3). I also had a similar experience in Sonic advance when I left the game on to get some water. I heard the intense music and I came back to my game boy advance to blast out with Sonic speed. Luckily all I had to do was spin dash. You know though, after playing mostly each Sonic game a billion times, Sonic Rush was a piece of cake and I have no trouble with any type of game (besides sports games minus tennis).

They don’t like you because of the incorrect grammer,the multiple post you put up which are mainly about wanting information, the capitalization, and you talking about how you dad does some **** we don’t care about and how we must reply to you before it’s too late. I’m only fourteen and I don’t have nearly as many mistakes in my long posts than in your short ones.
Oh yeah, does anyone think the werehog gameplay is similar to Amy’s Sonic Adventure gameplay? She is my fourth favorite Sonic character so I naturally thought of it. So I’m guessing Werehog gameplay is Knuckles and Amy’s gameplay with multiple combos and a lot more enemy killing.

And versing blaze/sonic at the end. AND the very last level where you go supersonic/blaze. NOW i’m ok with them well not the fishnets but I can do the last level easy peasy

@TailstheHedgehog: Rush wasn’t that hard at all. The only minor problem I would have was when you fought the bosses since you didn’t know what to do…….until the boss sat still. The Sonic vs. Blaze wasn’t hard and actually turned out to be my 2nd favorite boss in the game besides the last one in the Exception extra zone I think. The boss was really easy when you kept hitting over half the other characters’s life in the beginning. And the button mashing was really easy with the DS buttons(don’t have DS lite so wouldn’t know how that is). My best time was 0′55″10 for that boss.
And for the favorite last level thing I would have to choose……… Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Heroes. Maybe Sonic 06? Can’t grrrrhhhh…. choose…… Shadow the Hedgehog wins by default for being so awesome.

Dang, I knew I should have worded that differently. I didn’t mean to say that the other versions were inferior or would have bad frame rates. I’m just glad that it runs so smoothly since I only own a Wii and I was wondering how well it would perform, considering recent concerns about frame rates.

@Tails: Shadow is a fun game if you enjoy mission based gameplay, like “Kill all the black arms” or “destroy the president’s craft” or whatever. Every game can be explored in three ways(well, the final levels are only 2)…good, evil and neautral. When you do the neutral mission, that’s essentially just beating the stage like a normal Sonic game. The other missions range from fun to frustrating, but it’s nothing too bad(aside from destroying the president’s escape pod! *achem*).
I enjoyed the game’s storyline and different helper characters, and playing the stages in such different ways is fun to me. I thought the guns worked well, too. Negatively…some of the missions are monotonous and if you don’t care for Shadow as a character you wouldn’t enjoy the plot.
@TailstheHedgehog: Yeah, something close to that happened to me in Sonic Rush Adventure. I think I had about half a second left when I hit the spring though. I wonder why they haven’t made a 3D water level yet? Is it really that much harder to create underwater levels? I have a decent amount of PS2 games that have underwater levels and they work fine. I will have a party when there is finally a 3D underwater level in Sonic. I don’t think SU is going to be the game to give it to me though. Especially with Sonic running through recognizable areas. Oh well, maybe Sonic Chronicles will have something like an underwater level. Probably not 3D, but it will still satisfy me for now.

The 3D segments with Rouge and Knuckles underwater in SA2 were terrible.The thing is with Sonic…he doesn’t swim. It’d be hard to work the “don’t stay underwater too long, you’ll drown” gameplay into 3D because people get very frustrated at anything they percieve as “unfair” deaths now. I’m not sure it’d be popular…kind of how the Casino levels in Sonic Heroes didn’t work so well. At least, in my opinion.
Thanks you lot for your own reviews of Shadow the Hedgehog. I ckecked IGN (who gave it a 4.9
) Apparently the gameplay was only smoothed by giant corkscrews and 360’s but cinematography was excellent. Hmmm I’ll probably get it just cos it’s a game featuring one of my favourite hedgehogs in the world, All hail Shadow!

There could a part underwater. In the Chinese level you run on water, maybe at one point you will go under it. We haven’t seen any pics though so I doubt it, but you never know

Anyone know I’m pretty sure he didnt in Sonic the hedgeghog 1&2. Hehe cos in co-op me and my sis used to check if waterfall were traps or secret passageways by putting tails on them. If he died it’s safe he falls down them secret passagway. So mean lol

So Cream might not teach him ANYTHING (if she’s even in the game XD)

I was at a magazine store and saw that the magazine N Revolution had a hands on preview of the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed. (I’m not sure what month it was) I didn’t buy it, but does anyone else know about it? The cover blurb seemed to indicate that they liked it. It said “Unleashed is awesome” or something thereabouts.

Hey everyone haven’t made a comment post in a while but there is rumor going around that a sonic unleashed demo will be released in PSN and XBL some time during the Tokyo Game Show because the game is being solely developed in japan and the Sonic 06 Demo came out during TGS a couple years ago just wanted to drop the news and a recent rush of news is indicating that Revogamer had a talk with Sega and revealed new Wii version info check it out on http://www.tssznews.com

Hey everyone, whats going on lately?
I wonder what the GCcontroller’s controls are for Unleashed. I was planning to use the remote, but using the nunchuk to move and remote to “accelerate” sounds EXTREMELY awkard. I’d rather accelerate for holding the analog. That said,the Wii version is looking nice.

Plus i’m 99% sure the whole storyline is going to link to something else in the Sonic universe. I think it’ll make sense.

Don’t think there will be blood in SU. Sonic is always a kid’s game and adding blood, no matter how small, will up the rating. On a somewhat similar line, if they were going to go with the typical curse of lycanthropy, Sonic in his werehog form would be killing people and breaking down buildings, not killing aliens. I was hoping they would give Sonic that kind of curse since I wanted to see how his conscious faired in that condition, but it won’t happen.

The European game ratings aren’t a good indicator of what the game will be rated in the US because they’re going under a different system.
The ESRB in the US has Early Childhood, Everyone, Everyone +10, Teen, Mature, and Adults Only
The PEGI in Europe has 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+ and 18+.
If you really want to try and make a comparision between the two, since the game is being rated 7+ in Europe, it probably might be rated Everyone in the US.

just in case animated blood means discolored and or unrealistic depictions of blood
i was thinking (oh no)… maybe the low fps (30) suggests that in both versions of the game you will be moving so fast that you wont even notice it… i know the wii could handle 300mph because if you level up enough in sonic and the secret rings you can go that fast using speed break and later you can go faster than that when you are just running (i know because i have leveled up to level 65 or something and to level up again you have to collect around 40,000 more exp points) so anyway i was wondering what you guys thought so ya tell me your opinions! (that includes you david!) oh btw the wii version looks great!

I am hoping that when the demo comes out for the Xbox that it will also be on the PS store. I really badly want that demo to play. I have been trying to unlock everything in my other Sonic games to keep me satisfied until Sonic Chronicles comes out. November isn’t coming fast enough.

It would really be fun if there was a werehog Chao, but I found on the Sonic’s official facebook page that Sega says “It probably won’t happen”. Since it is directly from Sega that is saying that, Chao are not likely to appear in SU unfortunately.

About this whole “blood in SU” thing:
Can anyone find pics that actually show the “blood” that the enemies in the WereHog levels give off? Because if not I find it weird that the ESRB would even mention blood.
@Final Rush: When the Were-Hog kills an enemy at night, it gives off weird purple and reddish-pinkish colors.
It might look like blood to some little kids, so that’s why they have to make it E10.

@blueblur: You’re typing on the wii? O.o That would be a bit tricky I think. I can’t get my Wii on the Internet since I use a cable connection. Need to buy the adapter and don’t have the money for it with all the games I want to buy. I kinda hope that the demo comes very early October, but it probably won’t be available until mid October.
@keydown: It depends on which console you want the demo on. I am getting the demo for the PS3 and so it should be free. The demo is also free for the Xbox I believe. The Wii demo may not be free depending on how you look at things. The demo will probably be in the official Nintendo magazine and the magazine is, of course, not free.

they said that there won’t be ANY game demo’s on the Wii at all other than DS games so a Wii demo of Sonic Unleashed up for download is impossible =P but there will be a demo on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live sometime in October

Sonic Unleashed is Rated E10 for Animated Blood and Violence, right?
I believe it’s only rated E10 because Sonic is now fighting organisms
(things that HAVE BLOOD) instead of a whole bunch of ROBOTS, like in previous Sonic games.
When the Were-Hog defeats a night creature, it releases purple-ish, pink-ish blood-like energy from its body. To some kids/angry mothers, it might look like blood, which is “INAPPROPRIATE”.
That, in my opinion, is why SEGA decided to rate the game as E10. I don’t think there is any ACTUAL BLOOD in Sonic Unleashed.
I only believe this because the case is the same for Sonic The Hedgehog for XBOX 360.

1) The big monster guy is named “Dark Gaia”.
2) You will be able to fly the tornado and shoot bad guys and stuff.
3) There will be NO ONLINE OR MULTIPLAYER GAMEPLAY. AT ALL. So STOP ASKING! LOL

There is an interview up at Gamespot Australia about SU. According to the Interview, the gameplay is now a 60:40 split between daytime and nightime levels and there is a possiblility of fulture DLC if there is demand.

the 60:40 just means more daytime levels. It’s in the interview I posted.
@blueblur: 100% in SSE? I have actually made that completion.
Since every location is confirmed to have day and night levels, this comes dangerously close to suggesting multiple levels for each world. That would be encouraging. Either that, or they threw in some extra day levels. Either way, it’s more levels for us to play.
I’m not a fan of DLC really, but if there was extra levels…man, I’d be real tempted.

Anyway, wherever David is, if he is not going to do more updates this month, he’d better round up all the info sent to him and post it all at the end of the month for that “this month’s review”.
@Chaos Blast: That actually makes sense. It will vary on the person playing, but the last level of Sonic is probably going to be completely normal Sonic because at that time he would have purified the Chaos Emeralds and be on his way to fight the main boss, which means, no werehog form in the last level.
I just an assumption though. I could be wrong, it’s just the most logical way to do the game in my opinion. I will actually be rather happy if there is things in this game that aren’t so darn predictable.

Anyway bout the 60:40 i actully think because if u look on the E3 show on the SU level select! it has Greece day night then JUST EUROPE DAY! then china ETC! i think it might mean because SEGA mentiond levels where u could play as Sonic or his Werehog form! i just hope SU is worth the wait!

I wish I could go on the Internet with my Wii to brawl some of you guys. I probably would be pretty bad compare to some people, but it still would be fun. Unfortunately I am too low in cash to get the adapter needed and right now my Internet is incredibly unstable. Stupid Internet service provider messed our connection up bad.
