Sonic Free Riders: Play Sonic with Xbox Kinect

SEGA has announced Sonic Free Riders, a game based off Sonic Riders to be used with Xbox Kinect.

Yesterday at the E3 Microsoft Briefing, gamers got to feast their eyes on some upcoming titles compatible with Xbox Kinect, as well as many of Kinect’s new features since it’s original unveiling as Natal.

Kinect is a controller-free way to play videogames. Instead of button and joystick inputs, Kinect uses cameras and microphones to make your body the input for the game. Xbox Kinect will be available November 4th 2010 with 15 launch titles, including Sonic Free Riders.

From Sega:

For the first time use full-motion body control to twist and turn your way through a range of visually stunning courses. Hi–octane fun for ‘riders’ of all ages, Sonic Free Riders brings extreme fast-paced boarding action in a main event you won’t want to miss!

How well will a Sonic racing game adapt to full-motion body control? We haven’t seen any demoing of the game yet, but we’re intrigued to find out how well such a concept will work.

I’m not mad or happy about this games announcement, I just don’t care about it that much cause there’s Sonic Colours and Sonic 4 that interest me right now.
And if this is a launch title coming out on a new Xbox system later this year then I probably won’t be able to play this game anyway.

    • I can’t say I’m excited myself… yet.

Until I see some actual gameplay that demonstrates how this works, I’ll reserve my judgment, but I do have my doubts. I see myself as more of a controller person than a full-motion body player, but we’ll see if that changes.

  2. I’m just ticked that out of the three Sonic games coming out, I’m only going to be able to play Sonic colours. The DS version. Have people stopped releasing on the PS2 for good now?

Wow, at the beginning of the year there was almost nothing of the Sonic franchise coming – happy days!

Wow, ANOTHER Sonic game this year? Sega is a bold company, I’ll give them that. They always seem to want to take advantage of each video game consoles strengths, or what that console exclusively offers. It seems like they usually do it with Sonic and Super Monkey Ball.

I won’t be able to play this game, either since I don’t have an Xbox 360, and I don’t know if I’ll ever play it. Luckily, I still have Sonic Colours to look forward.
